Are the Reds already pulling away from Arsenal?
Arsenal and Liverpool face each other for the third time this season. A prediction of many goals would not have been crowned with success in either case. What Liverpool Football Club showed in their home game against Chelsea on Wednesday evening was reminiscent of the glory days under Klopp in 2019 and 2020, when his Reds lifted the Champions League and Premier League trophies one after the other. Power soccer par excellence, fantastic counter-pressing that made it almost impossible for the opposition to break free and goals by the minute were on show at Anfield.
In the end, LFC deserved to win 4:1 at home and thus maintained their lead at the top of the table. They remain five points clear of Manchester City. However, the Sky Blues still have a catch-up game up their sleeves, meaning that the race for the PL championship in 2023/24 is still very close. Should a prediction between Arsenal and Liverpool on Sunday afternoon pay off for the visiting team, the cushion would still grow to an impressive eight points, at least for one night. Liverpool’s offense is on fire
As mentioned at the beginning, the Reds are in sensational form. They made it to the final of the League Cup, Klopp’s side are already through to round five of the FA Cup and Liverpool have recently won four games in a row in the league. Nunez and Co. scored exactly four (!) goals three times in a row. The Scousers now not only have the best defense, but also the best offense in the country in terms of total goals.
In addition, LFC have also recently overcome their slight weakness on the road. While Virgil van Dijk and Co. initially dropped points almost exclusively away from home, they have recently celebrated four away wins in a row, scoring ten (!) goals and conceding just one. Liverpool have therefore also taken the lead in the separate visitors’ table. It seems as if coach Klopp’s announcement that he will be stepping down at the end of the season is an additional source of motivation. All the fans, managers and, of course, the players want to see the legend off with title(s)!
In terms of personnel, there is also almost exclusively positive news. Alexander-Arnold and Robertson made their comebacks from injury during the week. Szoboszlai also made an impressive return with a header. Only the absence of Mohamed Salah continues to hurt, although Nunez, Diaz and Jota harmonize perfectly with each other and almost make up for the Egyptian’s absence.
