Are the Reds already pulling away from Arsenal?

Arsenal and Liverpool face each other for the third time this season. A prediction of many goals would not have been crowned with success in either case. After a 1-1 draw at Anfield Road in the Premier League first round, the Reds celebrated a fortunate 2-0 away win in the capital in the third round of the FA Cup at the start of the year. In order to keep their chances in the race for the English championship alive, coach Mikel Arteta’s team must actually land a win on Sunday. His counterpart Jürgen Klopp, meanwhile, would probably not be entirely dissatisfied with a draw either

The momentum is currently more on the side of the visitors, who have been unbeaten in the Premier League for over four months and have recently won four league games in a row. They are doing particularly well offensively, even in the absence of the injured Mohamed Salah. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners, who recently suffered a setback, can keep up with the power of their direct rivals.

LFC’s aim must be to score the first goal of the game, as the capital club have always taken a 1-0 lead in the last three direct PL duels. On two occasions, Liverpool still managed to draw. Incidentally, the first goal of the match always came in the first ten minutes. If you want to take this statistic as an opportunity to place your first bet in the Arsenal v Liverpool clash, you can use the smart Betano app to pick up odds of 2.87 for a goal in the opening quarter of an hour.

In addition to this absolute top match on matchday 23 in the Premier League, we are also looking forward to absolute highlights in other European countries on Sunday evening. Inter Milan will be looking to force a preliminary decision in the Italian championship battle against Juventus, Real Madrid will be aiming to pick up three points in the derby against Atletico Madrid and the clash between Lyon and Marseille in the south of France will also be a hot one

Arsenal – statistics & current form

Coach Mikel Arteta cannot be satisfied with his team’s recent weeks. The Londoners have won just two of their last five Premier League games and have lost a promising starting position in the championship race as a result. Instead of continuing to lead the English top flight, the gap to leaders Liverpool has grown to five points after three defeats in the last seven matchdays. The direct clash against the league leaders is therefore a crucial one for the third-placed team.

In addition to the results, recent match impressions also underline the fact that Arteta’s side have clearly lost their dominance, confidence and belief in their own strength. During the week, the Gunners also found it extremely difficult in the away game at relegation candidates Nottingham Forest and ultimately only came out on top thanks to a brace from Gabriel Jesus (65′) and Bukayo Saka (72′).

How will Arsenal deal with their own chances this time?

As ever, the effort put in during a match is not in particularly good proportion to the return. Although the Gunners generally create plenty of goalscoring opportunities, they lack the necessary effectiveness in finishing. Only in three of the last eight competitive matches have the club scored more than one goal. The output of just one goal could definitely prove to be too little on Sunday, which is why risk-averse bettors who see LFC in front have the opportunity to bet on an away win including goals from both teams. Among others, such a combination can be played at Intertops.

From the home side’s perspective, the home record is far more encouraging. The Champions League round of 16 finalists have won eight out of eleven PL home games. In all three losses at home, the visitors scored exactly two goals. In other words: Whenever the Gunners conceded more than one goal at home, they remained winless. In our opinion, this statistical conclusion also tips the scales in favor of Klopp’s confident charges this weekend.

To make matters worse, there is also a question mark over Gabriel Jesus’ involvement. Without the usually regular attacker, his Spanish coach would once again be forced to improvise in attack. Gabriel Martinelli’s place should be safe, however. The Brazilian left winger has scored six goals against LFC in all competitions. Martinelli has not scored more against any other team in England.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

What Liverpool Football Club showed in their home game against Chelsea on Wednesday evening was reminiscent of the glory days under Klopp in 2019 and 2020, when his Reds lifted the Champions League and Premier League trophies one after the other. Power soccer par excellence, fantastic counter-pressing that made it almost impossible for the opposition to break free and goals by the minute were on show at Anfield.

In the end, LFC deserved to win 4:1 at home and thus maintained their lead at the top of the table. They remain five points clear of Manchester City. However, the Sky Blues still have a catch-up game up their sleeves, meaning that the race for the PL championship in 2023/24 is still very close. Should a prediction between Arsenal and Liverpool on Sunday afternoon pay off for the visiting team, the cushion would still grow to an impressive eight points, at least for one night. What’s more, they would have put a decisive distance between themselves and their opponents from the Thames

Liverpool’s offense is on fire

As mentioned at the beginning, the Reds are in sensational form. They made it to the final of the League Cup, Klopp’s side are already through to round five of the FA Cup and Liverpool have recently won four games in a row in the league. Nunez and Co. scored exactly four (!) goals three times in a row. The Scousers now not only have the best defense, but also the best offense in the country in terms of total goals.

In addition, LFC have also recently overcome their slight weakness on the road. While Virgil van Dijk and Co. initially dropped points almost exclusively away from home, they have recently celebrated four away wins in a row, scoring ten (!) goals and conceding just one. Liverpool have therefore also taken the lead in the separate visitors’ table. It seems as if coach Klopp’s announcement that he will be stepping down at the end of the season is an additional source of motivation. All the fans, managers and, of course, the players want to see the legend off with title(s)!

In terms of personnel, there is also almost exclusively positive news. Alexander-Arnold and Robertson made their comebacks from injury during the week. Szoboszlai also made an impressive return with a header. Only the absence of Mohamed Salah continues to hurt, although Nunez, Diaz and Jota harmonize perfectly with each other and almost make up for the Egyptian’s absence.

Predicted Liverpool line-up:

Arsenal – Liverpool head-to-head comparison / H2H record

We’ve already covered the two matches between Arsenal and Liverpool so far this season. There could have been significantly more goals in both matches. The Gunners, in particular, missed numerous high-caliber chances and were therefore not allowed to complain about the FA Cup exit, for example. However, because the Reds, unlike at the weekend, were far from complete in both the cup and the league game, we expect a different game on Sunday, in which the visitors will probably have more control.

LFC have scored at least one goal in 16 consecutive Premier League games against Arsenal. In any case, both teams have scored in nine of the last twelve matches at league level, which is why a bet on “Both score” is the lowest-risk option with reasonably respectable Arsenal vs Liverpool odds. Finally, it should be mentioned that the Gunners have the opportunity to remain unbeaten in four PL games in a row against Liverpool for the first time since a period between December 2014 and January 2016.

Arsenal – Liverpool betting tip

It’s one of the most fascinating soccer matches in England, a highlight of the weekend and a top-of-the-table clash in the Premier League. When third-placed Arsenal and leaders Liverpool go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon from 17:30, important points will be at stake in the race for the championship. In view of their starting position, the Gunners need them more urgently than LFC, who could probably live quite well with a draw in this tricky game.

We definitely believe the Reds can win a point. Their form is sensational, the personnel situation has eased considerably and the FA Cup match around three weeks ago also showed that Klopp’s team are capable of defying the odds and winning at the Emirates Stadium. We therefore see more value between Arsenal and Liverpool in the betting odds on the visitors’ treble
