Will VfL also win Ralph Hasenhüttl’s home debut?

Sometimes it just takes a new impetus from outside to end a prolonged dry spell. At least that was the case for VfL Wolfsburg, who went eleven consecutive Bundesliga games without a win under Niko Kovac and immediately left the pitch victorious on the debut of his successor Ralph Hasenhüttl. The club from Lower Saxony won 2:0 at Werder Bremen and thus landed a real big point in the battle to stay in the league. They are currently eight points clear of the relegation places. Further points are therefore absolutely essential!

Borussia Mönchengladbach share the same fate, as they also have 28 points to their name and are not yet one hundred percent sure of another year in the Bundesliga. So there is a lot at stake in the clash between two of the weakest teams in the second half of the season so far. If we believe the betting odds ahead of the Wolfsburg v Gladbach encounter, the chances of a home win are much better. At the top of the three-way market, only 1.90 is offered for the VfL treble

This assessment also coincides with the opinion of one of the most well-known Foals fans on social media. Tommi Schmitt, an avowed Borussia supporter and long-time season ticket holder, also expressed his skepticism about his favourite team’s upcoming away game in the Autostadt in his podcast “Copa TS.”

Wolfsburg – statistics & current form

VfL Wolfsburg breathed a sigh of relief last weekend. While the Wolves scored the second-fewest points of all Bundesliga clubs in the first nine games of the second half of the season and were without a win in eleven consecutive matches, the worrying negative run finally came to an end with an away win on the Weser. Although not all that glitters was gold in the 2:0 win in Bremen, the Wolves looked more stable, scored goals in the right phases and also kept a clean sheet for the first time since 16 December!

Hasenhüttl’s influence on VfL is already remarkable

These positive impressions, which are logically closely linked to the change of coach from Niko Kovac to Ralph Hasenhüttl during the international break, must be confirmed on Sunday evening. In the context of the 28th matchday in the Bundesliga, Lower Saxony are even considered the favorites. This is despite the fact that VfL have not won any of their last seven home games in the Bundesliga

In addition to the fact that the visitors from the Lower Rhine are just as bad statistically as the home side and have scored just as few points in the second half of the season, the coach must once again be mentioned as a powerful argument to justify a prediction for the home team between Wolfsburg and Gladbach.

The Austrian has been on the sidelines for six Bundesliga matches against Borussia so far and has yet to concede a defeat (3-3-0). Gladbach are therefore the only first division team that the former Leipzig coach has never lost to in his career. It is also interesting to note that three of the last four Wolfsburg coaches have won their first home game in the German top flight. Should Hasenhüttl also succeed in doing so, they would probably distance themselves decisively from the relegation places and could intensify their planning for another Bundesliga year.

Predicted Wolfsburg line-up:

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

While there is light at the end of the tunnel for the Autostadt club following the change of coach, the situation at Borussia Mönchengladbach looks more threatening. The mood within the club is tense, the relationship between coach and team has begun to crack in recent weeks, at the latest with the embarrassing exit in the DFB Cup, and the connection between fans and professionals has almost completely faded. Getting motivated for the final spurt of the season and the long unthinkable fight against relegation could turn out to be problematic and complicated

Gladbach haven’t done much away from home this season

A further complication is that the team from the Lower Rhine is a welcome guest in the Bundesliga. The Foals have only won one of their last 21 league games away from home (1-9-11). This away win dates back to September, almost six months in the past. In other words, Borussia have now been waiting for a three-pointer in ten away matches in the Bundesliga. Given their recent performances, it seems anything but likely that this long drought will come to an end on Sunday evening of all days

The poor performance in the previous week in particular has definitely left its mark. The team suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to SC Freiburg, which was ultimately deserved. Since head coach Gerardo Seoane’s team have only managed a single win in their last ten Bundesliga games, it takes a lot of imagination to bet on an away coup in the Wolfsburg v Gladbach clash.

Alternatively, it may make sense to target the odds on over-goals between Wolfsburg and Gladbach. Especially in the away games involving BMG, many goals were usually on the agenda. 30 of the total of 53 goals were scored away from home. A total of 51 goals were scored in the 13 away games involving the foals, an average of almost four per match. Over the entire season, a bet on at least two goals in the first 45 minutes would have come true in 14 out of 27 cases. It is therefore quite possible that the fans in attendance at the Volkswagen Arena will also be treated to an eventful first half at the weekend.

Predicted Gladbach line-up:

Wolfsburg – Gladbach head-to-head comparison / H2H result

47 meetings between these two clubs in the Bundesliga so far. The club from Lower Saxony have won a whopping 22 of them. The Wolves have not won more against any other first division team than against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Incidentally, 15 of the 22 three-pointers mentioned resulted from home matches (15-5-3).

Recently, however, the pendulum has swung more in the Foals’ favor, who have won their last three competitive matches, including both head-to-head meetings this season. In the DFB Cup, Gladbach won 1:0 after extra time; in the first round of the Bundesliga, they even recorded a clear 4:0 victory after 90 minutes. Will the Green-Whites finally get revenge at the third attempt?

Wolfsburg – Gladbach betting tip

The 28th matchday in the Bundesliga will be concluded on Sunday evening with a clash between two teams who definitely cannot be satisfied with their season so far. While Wolves pulled the ripcord on the coaching position after eleven consecutive games without a win, installed Hasenhüttl as the new boss and celebrated a three-pointer on his debut, the visitors from the Lower Rhine are still in free fall. Just one win from the last ten BL matches, 16th place in the table for the second half of the season and a drop to 13th place in the overall standings have created a tense atmosphere at Borussia.

Due to the different trends, at least as far as the last matchday is concerned, we are confident that the Autostadt team will follow up with a second win in a row at the weekend. The Foals’ disastrous away record also speaks for this. The former German champions have won just one of their last 21 home matches in the Bundesliga. Only SV Darmstadt 98 have conceded more goals away from home this season. With this in mind, we agree with the bookmakers’ assessment and can fully understand the lower odds on a home win between Wolfsburg and Gladbach

Because we believe that Ralph Hasenhüttl has a very positive influence on VfL and the quality in the squad is definitely right, while the foals are currently going in the wrong direction, we recommend the Wolfsburg vs Gladbach bet on the home win, which is quoted at Oddset with an appealing 1.90 in the top odds
