A week of sun and vacation is coming up for the Italian, who bumped into Zverev on the plane: this year he beat him 4 times out of 4.

The 2025 tennis year, with Italy winning the Davis Cup, has come to an end. At least as far as the major circuit and the top players are concerned. The last of these to take to the court, in Saturday’s Davis Cup semifinal victory (later lost by his Germany) against Spain’s Munar, was Alexander Zverev. After suffering defeat, the world No. 3, who played 24 tournaments this season, immediately headed off on vacation. He headed to the Maldives in search of sun and high temperatures, as evidenced by an Instagram story with a guest of honor: “I guess it’s Maldives season for everyone, huh?”, with two laughing emojis. Jannik Sinner poses with him on the plane.

Sinner is expected to begin his winter training for 2026, which will start with the Australian Open (beginning January 18) in early December in Dubai. He will take a couple of weeks’ vacation after the ATP Finals, including this one, before getting back to work to prepare for the coming season. He ran into Zverev on the plane, and the German, who has an excellent relationship with Jannik (despite losing to him four times out of four in 2025), took the opportunity to share a nice moment on social media. He too is looking forward to a period of rest before resuming work in preparation for the next season, which in his case will start a couple of weeks earlier than for the Italian. Zverev will take part in the United Cup, a mixed competition for nations that awards ranking points, and is expected to play his first official match of 2026 on January 4.
