In all nine cases, he not only reached the final, but also won the tournament in the end. Accordingly, there seems to be no alternative to betting on the 21-time Grand Slam champion against Novak Djokovic and Tommy Paul.
However, the supposed underdog Tommy Paul, who has now become the first American in 14 years to reach the semi-finals of the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne, has absolutely nothing to lose in this match. The 35-year-old Serb Novak Djokovic made his debut 18 years ago at the 2005 Australian Open, where he initially failed to reach the first round two years in a row. In 2008, however, he won the very first Grand Slam title of his career here Down Under, which was to be followed by 20 more Grand Slam trophies in singles to date – including eight more at the Australian Open.
Most recently, the Djoker won the 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions of the men’s singles at what is traditionally the first Grand Slam tournament of the tennis year, before being denied entry to Australia in 2022 for well-known reasons and thus unable to defend his title.

He has made it to the main draw in a total of 13 men’s singles Grand Slam tournaments so far. However, with only eleven wins in total, he has never made it past the fourth round.
Accordingly, the North Carolina player’s run at this year’s Australian Open has come somewhat out of nowhere. With five wins, however, Tommy Paul has now become the first American in 14 years to reach the Australian Open semifinals.
Twelve missed break chances in quarter-final
The world No. 35 also had the upper hand in the American quarter-final against Ben Shelton, thanks in particular to his strong first serve, which won him 66 out of 77 points – an impressive rate of 86%.
However, there is still room for improvement in the return game. The 25-year-old managed to win a total of 15 break points, but only managed to convert three of them into a successful break, which kept the quarter-final in suspense for a long time.
Won first six of 18 singles against Top 10 players
If Novak Djokovic is to be tipped to make it to the final against Tommy Paul, the American will have to be a lot more cool-headed, especially on the rare occasions that might come his way.
