Who will end the season on a high note?
Any team that is relegated to the third division in Spain faces extremely difficult times financially, as only very few teams are able to quickly escape from the highly fragmented third-tier league system, where significantly less revenue is generated. The opponents in Friday evening’s match on the last day of the season are therefore all the more relieved that relegation is no longer possible. This naturally has a direct impact on our Castellon vs. Zaragoza prediction.
Since both teams are ultimately only playing for their final position, which in both cases will be less than impressive but at least one place above the relegation zone, we could well see a high-scoring game. Accordingly, a prediction of a match with plenty of action is in order for Castellon vs. Zaragoza. After all, neither team is shy about attacking, but they have repeatedly been far too vulnerable defensively, which is what led to the relegation battle in the first place.
The momentum is more in favor of the visitors from Aragon, who have secured their place in the league with a strong haul of nine out of a possible twelve points from their last four league games. However, Real Zaragoza are facing a major shake-up in the summer. In addition, the team has already lost nine of its 20 La Liga 2 away games.
Castellon – Statistics & current form
Club Deportivo Castellon only just managed to escape the dreaded third division last summer and return to La Liga 2 after a three-year absence. The main goal here was to avoid immediate relegation at all costs. To this end, there were changes on the bench in January. Under Dutch coach Johan Plat, it is already clear one matchday before the end of the season that the Albinegros will remain in the second division next season.
This was made possible by a strong run in February, when ten out of a possible twelve points were won in four consecutive league games. There were setbacks after that, but at least at home, there has been no slip-up since a 0-1 defeat to Huesca on February 2. The team from the east coast of Spain has not lost in seven La Liga 2 home games (four wins, three draws).
Castellon has one of the best offenses in La Liga 2
Nevertheless, the Albinegros slipped to 18th place after another 1-2 defeat against Granada. This is not a cause for concern, as they are five points ahead of 19th place, the first of four relegation spots. Nevertheless, the men from Valencia want to reward themselves for a strong second half of the season with a slightly better final position.
However, the Club Deportivo still has this in its own hands. If Castellon beats Zaragoza at home, the Plat-Elf would at least move ahead of their guests. This is supported by the fact that two of the last three competitive games against the visitors from Aragon have been won (with one defeat).
The Albinegros’ biggest asset is their attacking power. Castellon has scored 61 goals. That’s more than Elche (55), Real Oviedo (54), and Mirandés (56) – the three teams battling it out for the second direct promotion spot on the last matchday. However, the fact that those 61 goals have been conceded 62 times shows where the problem lies…
Zaragoza – Statistics & current form
Real Zaragoza was taken over a few years ago by the financially strong Real Z LCC. The objective was clear: to force a return to La Liga in the medium term. To this end, capital was increased step by step. However, constant restructuring in the summer and numerous coaching changes turned the club, which started the 2024/25 season with the highest salary budget in La Liga 2 in twelve years, into an extremely turbulent club that recently had to fight hard for its existence.
Under coach Gabi, who was appointed in mid-March, the Aragonese have at least successfully taken up this fight. Since the beginning of April, they have lost only two of eight league games (four wins, two draws). Most recently, they finally secured their place in the league with an impressive haul of nine out of a possible twelve points. With a six-point lead over 19th place, the Blanquillos go into the final matchday of the season in 17th place.
Zaragoza is also too vulnerable to conceding goals
Even now, however, the club, which is determined to return to the top flight, is once again facing a period of extreme upheaval, which is naturally taking its toll on the team, which has similar problems to CD Castellon: while the offensive statistics are certainly impressive, with 55 goals scored, they have also conceded 59. Only Eldense (60), Ferrol, Cordoba and Castellon (62 each) and the bottom-placed Cartagena (75) have conceded more goals in the league.
No wonder, then, that the odds against Castellon against Zaragoza are stacked against an away win for the Blanquillos, who have already suffered nine defeats on the road. Bet365 not only offers up to €100 in betting credits with the Bet365 bonus, but also offers odds of 4.00 for the Aragonese to secure another victory in the season finale.
Castellon – Zaragoza Head-to-head record/H2H record
Head to head: 9 – 6 – 5
A total of 20 competitive matches have been played between the two teams, who first met in May 1941 in the promotion playoffs to La Liga. CD Castellon leads the head-to-head record with nine wins. The Albinegros have also lost only one of their last five competitive games against Zaragoza (two wins, two draws) and won the first leg in Aragon 2-1.
Castellon – Zaragoza Tip
All in all, our prediction for Castellon against Zaragoza is that the home side will take the points, having picked up 29 points at their Estadio SkyFi Castalia and currently unbeaten in seven La Liga 2 home games (four wins, three draws). The first leg also went to the Albinegros, who now face an opponent that has managed to pull itself out of the relegation zone in the final stretch of the season, winning three of its last four league games (one defeat).
Since both teams no longer have to worry about relegation, there could be a healthy dose of relief, which could lead to a lack of concentration. Given that both teams are strong in attack but extremely vulnerable in defense, it could also be very entertaining. We definitely expect one or two goals.
