Will Trevisan also surprise young Coco?

If we look at the ranking in the women’s world rankings, Iga Swiatek is the only woman who towers above everyone else. Behind her, not so much follows. This can also be seen in the players in the semi-finals of the French Open. Martina Trevisan from Italy has surprisingly reached the semifinals and will fight on Thursday against Coco Gauff from the USA for a place in the final.

Whoever would have bet on this semifinal before the start of the French Open could have collected a nice profit. First and foremost, the Italian is more than unexpected in this preliminary round, which is tantamount to Martina Trevisan being the clear underdog. However, it has never been easier in the women’s competition to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament as an unseeded player.

For the still very young Coco Gauff, who is only 18 years old, it would also be her first final at one of the four big tournaments, even if one has thought she could reach the final for quite some time given her talent.

Basically, though, every win for the Italian has been a surprise. Maybe she will have another arrow in her quiver on Thursday. The matches at the Stade Roland Garros this year have shown that you can’t rule out purely, so we even think it’s conceivable that you might consider betting on an underdog win before the match between Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff.

Martina Trevisan – Statistics & current form

Current world ranking: 59
Position in the seedings: unseeded

It was probably foreseeable that Martina Trevisan would deliver a good performance at the Stade Roland Garros. After all, the 28-year-old won her first WTA tournament in Rabat, Morocco, just before the French Open and brought a lot of self-confidence with her to Paris. So there was already hope that she would play her best Grand Slam tournament of her career.

Great winning streak

Two years ago, she reached the quarter-finals in Paris as a qualifier. At that time she lost clearly to Iga Swiatek. It looks as if the French Open has become the Italian’s favourite tournament. After all, Martina Trevisan now has a record of 10-2 wins at the Stade Roland Garros, and that is not necessarily the end of the story.

If you include the Rabat matches, the Italian now has ten wins in a row to her name. Among others, she won in Morocco against Garbine Muguruza, a woman who already triumphed at the French Open. In Paris itself, Martina Trevisan has not faced a seeded player until the quarter-finals.

She was also lucky that her path opened wide after the early elimination of Ons Jabeur and Emma Raducanu. So the quarter-final against Canada’s Leylah Fernandez was her toughest match in Paris. Despite her three-set win, however, we still maintain that between Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff, the odds on the American to win are our first choice.

Coco Gauff – Statistics & current form

Current world ranking: 23
Position in the seedings: 18

Coco Gauff is one of those examples of a young and hopeful talent who gets hyped too early and then doesn’t live up to expectations at all, or doesn’t want to. She is supposed to be the long-awaited successor to Serena Williams at the top of the tennis world. But one must not forget that the 18-year-old is still a teenager and that life has more in store for her than playing tennis.

First time in a major semi-final

In the meantime, however, she seems to be putting more effort into her career as a young adult. Coupled with her prerequisites, the sporting successes are likely to return. In Paris, she has now achieved her best result at a Grand Slam tournament by reaching the semifinals.

However, her performances at the Stade Roland Garros are encouraging that she will also reach a major final for the first time. The US-American did not have the hardest path in Paris. However, she has also mastered her previous tasks with bravura and has not yet had to accept a single set loss. Therefore, we can imagine a 2-0 win for the US player between Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff.

Once again on the subject of Serena Williams. Sloane Stephens was supposed to follow in her footsteps, but that only worked to some extent. In the quarter-finals, Sloane Stephens was Coco Gauff’s opponent. In the generation duel, the younger player hardly gave her opponent a chance and in the end prevailed 7:5 and 6:2.

Martina Trevisan – Coco Gauff Direct comparison / H2H-balance

It seems to be the French Open that connects Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff. The only match between these two ladies so far took place at the Stade Roland Garros in 2020. At the time, however, it was not the semi-final but the second round in which the two players faced each other. Coco Gauff was only 16 years old at the time.

The US-American could not play to her full potential and lost in the end in two sets after she had won the first set 6:4. However, after 2:13 hours Martina Trevisan converted her first match point and later even entered the quarter-finals as a qualifier before Iga Swiatek was one or two numbers too big.

Martina Trevisan – Coco Gauff Tip

This semi-final is already the biggest match in the careers of Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff so far. Making it to the final would be the icing on the cake of a grandiose two weeks. The Italian’s time is a little longer, however, after she triumphed in Rabat before the French Open and has now won ten matches in a row.

The direct comparison is also in favour of the Italian, who won the only duel so far almost exactly two years ago at the French Open.

Coco Gauff has not dropped a single set in her first five matches in Paris. We imagine that this will not change in the semifinals. All in all, we think that the two rounds will go relatively clearly to the favourite and have decided to play the betting odds between Martina Trevisan and Coco Gauff at less than 19.5 games.
