Suspenseful rematch from last year’s quarter-finals?

While Jannik Sinner has reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the very first time in his career, it is already the twelfth semi-final of Novak Djokovic’s career at Wimbledon alone. The Serb has already won the only Grand Slam tournament played on grass seven times. Among them were the last four tournaments in a row. Accordingly, Jannik Sinner’s tip against Novak Djokovic is that the Djoker will once again punch his ticket to the final.

However, the duel with the man from Sesto is not likely to be a foregone conclusion for Nole. Last year, the Serb almost stumbled over Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals. After trailing 0:2 in the first set, the Djoker managed a 3:2 comeback victory. The forecast for Jannik Sinner against Novak Djokovic is correspondingly coherent: the Serbian superstar will not win this duel outright 3:0.

It should be noted, however, that Jannik Sinner has not yet had to put a heavyweight out of the way in the course of the tournament. With Novak Djokovic, he actually faces an opponent from the seed list in the semifinals for the first time in the tournament. However, the man from Sesto made short work of the supposed underdogs in the previous rounds, as evidenced by the fact that he only dropped two sets on the way to his first Grand Slam semi-final.

We trust Sinner to give the defending champion a tough match in which the potential for possible tiebreaks is anything but negligible. We therefore recommend betting on over 0.5 tiebreaks.

Jannik Sinner – Statistics & current form

Current world ranking: 8
Position in the seedings: 8

The 21-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner has already reached the quarter-finals of three of the four Grand Slam tournaments in the strong 2022 season – including Wimbledon, where he was still stopped by the eventual overall winner Novak Djokovic despite leading 2-0 in sets.

Now the South Tyrolean, who is still without a major title on the ATP Tour but has already won seven tournaments, has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. If he now succeeds in taking revenge against the Serbian superstar, the man from Sesto could now also hope for the really big match.

Only lost two sets on the way to the semifinals

Jannik Sinner did not have to stretch too much on his way to his very first Grand Slam semifinal. The player from Sesto has only dropped two sets so far, and it should be noted that he did not have to defeat a single opponent from the seeded list.

But the supposed luck of the draw is now over when the 21-year-old comes up against the man who has won the last four editions of the only Grand Slam tournament that is played on grass. There is not much to suggest that Jannik Sinner’s bet on the South Tyrolean progressing against Novak Djokovic will work out.

37 of 47 singles matches won in 2023

Basically, however, Jannik Sinner’s performance data is quite convincing. In the calendar year 2023, the world number eight has won 37 of his 47 completed singles matches. In Wimbledon, moreover, he has nine wins from eleven completed singles matches.

The man from Sesto has also beaten one or two of the top stars on the ATP Tour. Out of 38 duels with current top 10 players, Sinner won 13 matches (34.2%). In the last few matches, he has been dominated by his serve, which must not be allowed to slip away in his duel with Djoker. In the last round of 16, the South Tyrolean scored 43 out of 48 times with his first serve. A top score that he now has to match again if he wants to have a chance.

Novak Djokovic – Statistics & current form

Current world ranking: 2
Position in the seedings: 2

The 36-year-old Serb Novak Djokovic once again played big at the Wimbledon Championships. Having already won the Australian Open 2023 and the French Open 2023, the Djoker is now looking to make it five in a row and eight overall at Wimbledon.

In fact, the old master, who has achieved almost everything in his career, would thus come closer to a significant milestone. Never before, after all, has the 23-time Grand Slam winner won all four Grand Slam tournaments in one season – and thus a genuine Grand Slam.

Won 32 of 36 singles matches in 2023

In a stellar year so far that has seen Nole win 32 of his 36 singles matches, he didn’t let too much slip at Wimbledon either despite a tough draw. After two easy 3-0 wins at the start, he had to eliminate Stan Wawrinka, Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev in turn from the third round onwards.

With only two dropped sets in all in these three matches, his progress to the semifinals went remarkably smoothly. Accordingly, it is hardly surprising that the odds on Jannik Sinner against Novak Djokovic are clearly in favour of the Serb.

Seven of eight opponent break points fended off in the last 16

The Serb almost stumbled over the South Tyrolean a year ago. After two weak sets, however, the 36-year-old once again showed his incredible resilience in this match, turning things around and forcing a 3:2 victory.

The Djoker can now start into the semifinals with the corresponding self-confidence and having won 33 singles matches in a row at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, but he will have to improve a little on his own serve. Most recently, against Andrey Rublev, he “only” scored on his first serve 75% of the time. The fact that it was not a close match was due to the fact that Nole was able to fend off seven of the eight break points that Rublev earned.

Jannik Sinner – Novak Djokovic Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 0:2

Twice both players have faced each other in a direct duel and both times Novak Djokovic prevailed in the end. At the Wimbledon Championships, the paths of the two athletes crossed a year ago. In the quarter-finals, a surprise was briefly in the air. After leading 2:0 in the first set, Jannik Sinner lost this match 2:3 (7:5, 6:2, 3:6, 2:6 and 2:6) in the end.

Jannik Sinner – Novak Djokovic Tip

In the case of Jannik Sinner against Novak Djokovic, the overall forecast is for the Serbian high-flyer, who has won the last four Wimbledon Championships and has already triumphed at the Australian Open and French Open in the 2023 season, to progress. A year ago, however, the player from Sesto sniffed a surprise and was already leading 2-0 against the Djoker in the quarter-finals before the Serb managed to make a comeback to win 3-2.

With a view to their hard-fought quarter-final a year ago, the rematch of this duel promises to be a hot semi-final that could also reach a certain length. There is a lot of value in betting that at least one set will go into a tiebreak.
