Will the Djoker leave nothing to chance again?

After two of three completed matches in the Red Group, the first preliminary decisions have already been made. Novak Djokovic, who recorded two 2-0 wins against Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev, is the group winner in the semifinals.

Daniil Medvedev, on the other hand, who lost both opponents 2-1, has been eliminated. The Russian, who has reached the final of the ATP Finals twice in a row, has nothing to play for.

Daniil Medvedev, who already won the year-end tournament in 2020, at least wants to say goodbye with his head held high. The Djoker, however, played as dominant as ever at the Pala Alpitour in Turin, so the betting on a conciliatory farewell for the Russian against Novak Djokovic does not look too good for Daniil Medvedev.

The Serbian superstar, who has won 15 of his last 16 singles matches, did not let anything go to waste, especially on his own serve. In his first two wins at the Pala Alpitour, the Djoker did not surrender a single service game and only committed two double faults. The forecast for Daniil Medvedev against Novak Djokovic is correspondingly interesting: that the Serb will have a maximum of two double faults in the last group match.

While Daniil Medvedev will have to go home on Friday regardless of the outcome of the match, the Djoker might have to stay on until Sunday, when the World Cup starts at the same time as the final of the World Tennis Championships.

Daniil Medvedev – Statistics & current form

Current position in the world ranking: 5
Position in the seedings: 4

The 26-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev has already ticked off most of the milestones in his career. In 2021, he was crowned Grand Slam champion at the US Open with a smooth 3-0 victory over Novak Djokovic.

The Muscovite also won the ATP Finals in 2020 and was allowed to call himself world champion for a year. The Russian has also been at the top of the ATP world rankings for 16 weeks. He has also already won four Masters tournaments.

45 wins from 63 singles in 2022

With this impressive tennis CV in mind, it is all the more disappointing for Daniil Medvedev to be eliminated early after two group matches at the ATP Finals. Especially because it was absolutely avoidable.

In both matches, which were decided in the third set only in a tiebreak, the Muscovite had chances to win. In his last match against Stefanos Tsitsipas, against whom he defended three match points in the second set, he even served to win the match in the decider, but then surrendered his service game. It was the 26-year-old’s 18th defeat in his 63rd singles match in 2022.

Three of last four duels with Djokovic lost

Now the Russian, who has won two tournaments this year and reached the final of the Australian Open, is hoping for a victory at the end. However, when it comes to Daniil Medvedev against Novak Djokovic, the odds are in favour of Djokovic, who has won three of the last four encounters with the Muscovite.

If the 26-year-old brings his powerful serve, with which he has already hit 40 aces in both matches, onto the court again, it could be a waiting game for the Djoker. However, the fact that Medvedev has already surrendered his service game five times shows that the world number five is not in top form.

Novak Djokovic – Statistics & Current Form

Current world ranking: 8
Position in the seedings: 7

The 35-year-old Serb Novak Djokovic has had a very complicated year in which he was not only denied participation in the Australian Open, but also in all the major tournaments in the USA.

Not only did the Djoker miss the Sunshine Double in the spring, but also the entire US Open Series consisting of Roger’s Cup, Western & Southern Open and the actual US Open. Instead, the former world number one played in the Wimbledon Championships, where he promptly secured the 21st Grand Slam title of his career.

Won 15 of last 16 singles matches

The Serbian superstar has won four tournaments this year. The week before last, however, he narrowly lost 1-2 to Holger Rune in the final of the Paris Masters. It was the 35-year-old’s only defeat in the last 16 singles matches.

The Djoker is in correspondingly good form at the Pala Alpitour, where he made it to the semifinals early with two 2:0 wins despite a supposed group of death. Accordingly, Daniil Medvedev is hotly tipped for his next win against Novak Djokovic, which would already be his 40th victory in the 47th singles match of the current season.

Recently scored on first serve 94% of the time

The Djoker, who will be playing with the Serbian team in Group G of the 2022 World Cup, has hardly been able to get anything going, especially on his own serve. The 35-year-old has not surrendered a single service game so far in the tournament.

Although the ace fireworks failed to materialise once again, the Serb has only committed two double faults so far – both in the opening match against Tsitsipas. Against Rublev, on the other hand, he remained error-free in the last match, scoring with his first serve in 33 of 35 cases – an incredible rate of 94%.

Daniil Medvedev – Novak Djokovic Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 4:7

The two players have faced each other a total of eleven times so far – including twice in a Grand Slam final. After Medvedev lost 3-0 at the Australian Open 2021, he took revenge on the Djoker with a 3-0 win at the US Open 2021. In total, however, seven of the eleven duels went to the Serb.

Daniil Medvedev – Novak Djokovic Tip

The prediction for Daniil Medvedev against Novak Djokovic is clearly going to the Djoker, who has won 15 of his last 16 singles matches and has shown impressive form in his two matches at the Pala Alpitour in Turin so far. It is true that things could well have gone differently for the Russian, who has already been eliminated early. However, considering that Daniil Medvedev has already surrendered five service games, there is probably nothing to be gained against the Serb who has been so faultless so far.

It was not only remarkable that the Djoker has not yet surrendered a single service game, but also that he has only committed two double faults. Therefore, there is a lot of value in betting that he will play a maximum of two double faults in the last group match.
