Zverev wants to live up to role of favourite on Friday

Today’s ATP Vienna quarter-finals will feature four exciting matches, including one involving German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.

The Hamburg player, seeded No. 2, will meet Felix Auger-Aliassime. Thanks to his strong performances during the season, he is the top favourite for the title at the Erste Bank Open in Austria’s capital.

We have summarised the other players on the ATP Vienna 2021 schedule for you here. The tournament starts at 2 p.m.

Will Zverev win ATP Vienna quarter-final against Canadian?

Top favourite for the 2021 ATP tournament in Vienna is Alexander Zverev. The German is in good form and won the tennis tournament at the Summer Olympics not long ago. His last success at an ATP 500 tournament was in March in Acapulco, Mexico.

In Vienna, the Hamburg player won more or less confidently against Krajinovic and de Minaur. Now the biggest challenge awaits with Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The Canadian, seeded 6th, is the clear outsider in the ATP Vienna odds. But he certainly has high quality, as he, like his opponent today, was only eliminated in the semi-finals at the US Open.

Matteo Berrettini opens Erste Bank Open quarter-finals

Italian Matteo Berrettini is rated as the favourite in the first match of the day. He will meet the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who is unseeded in the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna.

In terms of just past performances, parity is again the order of the day in this match. Both Berrettini and Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals at the last Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows.

In the Viennese round of 16, Carlos Alcaraz surprised Andy Murray as an underdog, who, however, has been looking for form and fitness for quite some time.

Can qualifier Tiafoe continue to surprise in Vienna?

One name had not been expected in the quarter-finals on the ATP Vienna schedule: Francis Tiafoe. However, the qualifier from the USA prevailed over Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets in the round of the last 16.

Diego Schwartzman is also in good form. The Argentinean has beaten Fabio Fognini and Gael Monfils so far. Before that, he reached the final at the ATP tournament in Antwerp.

This is one of the reasons why Schwartzman is the favourite to reach the semi-finals in Vienna. Nevertheless, in view of Tiafoe’s run of success, there are very good odds for this.

Ruud vs. Sinner in second top match of the day

The quarter-finals in the Vienna Stadthalle will be completed tonight by Casper Ruud and Jannik Sinner. The 4th and 7th seeded pros progressed to the last 8 against fairly clear underdogs.

In the bookmaker betting on the ATP tournament in Vienna, Sinner is now the clear favourite. Not without reason, because the Italian recently celebrated two tournament victories in Antwerp and Sofia.

Ruud, on the other hand, has a lot of experience in Austria. He won the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel at the end of July. So it should be an exciting end to the quarter-final day in Vienna
