Carlos’ announcement: “Playing for my country is the best thing there is, but the doctor has advised me to stop”
Carlos Alcaraz is forced to withdraw from the Davis Cup due to the aftermath of the injury he suffered during Sunday’s ATP Finals final against Jannik Sinner. “I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna… I have edema in my right hamstring and the doctor has advised me not to compete. I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the best thing there is, and I was looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup. I’m going home with a heavy heart.“ Then, just before leaving Bologna and returning to Murcia, he added: ”Things don’t always go the way you want them to… Now I have to go home and recover as soon as possible so that I can be there for the preseason and start the year in the best possible way. I’ll be cheering on the team from home.”
The picture— Spain will face the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The winner will face the winner of Argentina-Germany in the semifinals. On the other side of the draw, Italy (without Jannik and Musetti) will face Austria tomorrow at 4 p.m. A possible semifinal on Friday against either France or Belgium.
