Will the Munich side stay hot on the heels of leaders Leverkusen?

Basically, the 2023/24 season has been quite successful for FC Bayern Munich so far. There was another early exit in the DFB Cup. In the Champions League, on the other hand, they won their group with aplomb, while their haul of 35 out of a possible 42 points in the Bundesliga in recent seasons would have been enough to keep them at the top of the table. However, Bayer Leverkusen, an even more formidable rival, is currently on the horizon. It would therefore be all the more important for the Reds if tip 2 works out for Wolfsburg against Bayern and they go into the winter break with a win

Failing to win in Lower Saxony would be another serious setback for Munich. Because Leverkusen are heavily favored in the parallel match against Bochum, the gap to first place could grow to as many as seven points, which would make looking at the table unbearable for at least three and a half weeks. However, there really isn’t much to suggest that Wolfsburg’s prediction of a point win against Bayern will work out

Of all the teams that the German record champions have faced at least twelve times in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern cannot boast such a high points average (2.5) against any other opponent as against VfL Wolfsburg. The Reds have not lost a single one of their last 16 Bundesliga games against the Lower Saxons (14 wins, two draws).

In our eyes, the only question is how best to play the bet on Munich’s away win in order to create the greatest possible value.

Wolfsburg – Statistics & current form

VfL Wolfsburg basically has the financial resources and infrastructure to compete at the top. The last few years have been correspondingly sobering for the Wolves, who missed out on participation in a European competition on the last matchday of the 2022/23 season and had to make do with a thankless eighth place.

Because it was so close, Niko Kovac was nevertheless allowed to start a second term in office. However, after 15 league games, the club has only managed a sobering ninth place in the table with 19 points out of a possible 45. The interim conclusion is correspondingly disappointing

Wolfsburg have lost four of their last six competitive matches

The club from Lower Saxony has squandered its good starting position, particularly in recent weeks. Not only did VfL fail to reach the round of 16 of the DFB Cup, where the chances of winning the title would have been above average after the early elimination of teams such as Leipzig, Bayern and Dortmund, but there were also three defeats in the last five games in the Bundesliga (two wins).

The Wolves also showed great morale last weekend when, despite an early red card against Maxence Lacroix and being outnumbered for over an hour, they managed to secure a 1-0 away win in Darmstadt. Ultimately, however, eight defeats from 15 league games left a lot to be desired

The fourth-best home defense in the Bundesliga

Fittingly, the bookmakers’ odds for Wolfsburg v Bayern are now also clearly against a point for the club from Lower Saxony, who have not won against the German record champions in 19 matches (three draws, 16 defeats).

Nevertheless, the Wolves’ home record looks solid. VfL have scored 13 out of a possible 21 points at the Volkswagen Arena and have the fourth-best home defense in the Bundesliga, conceding just seven goals. However, whether that will be enough to stop Bayern’s brilliant attack in the absence of the suspended Lacroix is more than questionable.

Predicted Wolfsburg line-up:

Bayern – Statistics & current form

FC Bayern Munich is repeatedly criticized at an extremely high level in the 2023/24 season. However, if you look at the bare figures, the Reds can only be criticized for their early exit in the DFB Cup against 1. FC Saarbrücken. Otherwise, Thomas Tuchel’s players are generally even stronger than in recent seasons.

The yield of 35 out of a possible 42 points from the first 14 league games was last surpassed eight years ago, when 40 out of a possible 42 points were scored under Pep Guardiola. The only difference: in the last seven years, this yield would always have been enough for first place. Currently, however, another Bundesliga team is in a completely different sphere with the Werkself

Lost only one of the 14 Bundesliga games in the 2023/24 season

The championship is far from lost. After all, Munich, who won their group in the Champions League very calmly with two victories against Manchester United, among others, to advance to the round of 16, where Lazio Rome awaits in 2024, still have a catch-up game up their sleeve.

As a result, the current four-point deficit to Leverkusen could be reduced to one point. It is therefore all the more important that no more points are dropped, as was the case in the recent 5-1 defeat in Frankfurt, the only defeat FCB have suffered in the 14 games of the 2023/24 season so far (eleven wins, two draws)

38 consecutive undefeated in the last Bundesliga match of a calendar year

The signs are correspondingly favorable that the betting on an away win for Wolfsburg against Bayern will now also work out for the team from the Isar. After all, Munich have not lost any of their last 19 competitive matches against the Wolves (16 wins, three draws) and have scored in every one of their last 30 Bundesliga games against the club from Lower Saxony.

The full injury list remains an issue for the German record champions, especially as two other key players – Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry – will not be available for the last league game in 2023. In that final Bundesliga game of the calendar year, however, Munich have not lost for 39 years (2:3 in Gladbach in 1984). Of the 38 final games since then, the Reds have also celebrated a win in all four duels with Wolfsburg…

Predicted Bayern line-up:

Wolfsburg – Bayern head-to-head comparison / H2H result

Head to head: 4 – 9 – 43

A total of 59 competitive matches have already been played between the two teams and with 43 wins, FC Bayern Munich lead the direct comparison against VfL Wolfsburg with maximum clarity. The Wolves have celebrated just four wins against the German record champions, who have not lost to the club from Lower Saxony in 19 consecutive competitive matches (16 wins, three draws)

Wolfsburg – Bayern betting tip

In the run-up to the clash between Wolfsburg and Bayern, the betting odds are clearly and unmistakably in favor of the visitors from the Isar. No wonder, as FCB are unbeaten in 19 competitive matches against the club from Lower Saxony (16 wins, three draws) and have recorded an average of 2.5 points per league game against the Wolves in the Bundesliga alone. To make matters worse, VfL go into this home game in poor form. Kovac’s side have lost four of their last six competitive games (two wins)

There is therefore no alternative to predicting an away win for Wolfsburg against Bayern. As the odds for a Munich victory in the three-way system leave a lot to be desired, we recommend the half-time final score bet and are betting that the German record champions will already be in the lead at the break.
