Will there be the expected offensive spectacle in the London derby?

With 61 goals scored, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has one of the best offenses in English soccer. It is all the more curious that the team of coach Ange Postecoglou has not been able to score a single goal in the first half since the beginning of February (!). In six consecutive Premier League matches, the Londoners have failed to score before the break, but have been rewarded with solid results in most cases thanks to a significant improvement in performance in the second half

For the upcoming capital derby, however, the current fifth-placed side, who are still aiming to take part in the reformed UEFA Champions League preliminary round in 2024/25, have undoubtedly resolved to show the necessary effectiveness in the first 45 minutes. The Hammers could prove to be a suitable opponent in that respect, as the Europa League quarter-finalists’ recent vulnerability in defense in particular supports the prediction of a lively spectacle between West Ham and Tottenham on Tuesday evening, with goals on both sides

So unsurprisingly, it’s the West Ham v Tottenham over-goals predictions that dominate our detailed pre-match coverage. If you are also looking to bet on one or two goals, we recommend the betting provider Interwetten, which also has an attractive bonus offer.

West Ham – Statistics & current form

Bitter defeats can shape a club for years. From West Ham United’s point of view, it is to be hoped that the weekend’s defeat at Newcastle will not have such a long-lasting effect. Despite taking a comfortable 3:1 lead with 13 minutes remaining, the Irons ultimately had to travel home to London without any points. Bayer Leverkusen’s opponents in the Europa League quarter-finals conceded three goals in the final quarter of an hour and thus also missed out on a big point in the race to qualify for international business again

Wild Wild Wild West Ham

Once again, it was the defense that caused manager David Moyes to worry. The Hammers have conceded at least two goals in seven of their last ten Premier League games. Of the top twelve teams in the English top flight, there is no other team that has conceded more goals than the capital club. They have already conceded 54 times. The eight London derbies alone account for 19 of these 54 goals conceded (35%). WHU lost 5-0 to Fulham and 6-0 to Arsenal, among others, so the omens for thinking about a West Ham vs Tottenham bet on a home win could definitely be better.

Especially in view of the fact that the recent form curve has not necessarily been pointing upwards. Head coach David Moyes’ side have now gone three league games without a win and have just two victories in their last twelve PL matches. There is not much left of the self-confidence from the end of December, when Manchester United and Arsenal (first leg) were beaten 2-0 in succession

The loss of Alvarez hurts

In the current situation, it is therefore too much of a risk to play the odds on a three-pointer for the hosts in the West Ham v Tottenham derby. However, at least a bet on over-goals seems advisable, as already indicated, because in addition to the numerous goals conceded, Bruce Bowen and Co. have also scored 13 (!) goals in the last five PL matchdays. In four of the last WHU PL encounters, the over would have gone 3.5. However, the reigning Conference League winners will be without regular keeper Areola and the suspended Edson Alvarez on Tuesday, who recently caused a stir with an interview in which he said that he still couldn’t understand his failed move to BVB in the summer.

Predicted West Ham line-up:

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Following the late departure of Harry Kane, many pundits feared in the summer that Tottenham Hotspur Football Club would lack power in attack this season. However, it is Spurs’ attack, of all things, that is absolutely living up to the highest national standards and has ensured that the north Londoners can continue to dream of a return to the top flight. They are currently three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who have played one more game.

Tottenham’s offensive power is a joy

If Spurs are to be allowed to look ahead to the 2024/25 Champions League group stage, they will have to improve their efficiency above all. Although the 61 goals scored mentioned in the introduction represent a remarkable top figure in league comparison, it must be said that significantly more goals could have been scored when it comes to converting chances. The best example of this was the 2:1 win at the weekend against relegation candidates Luton Town, which was only secured shortly before the end due to an almost unbelievable lack of chances.

Admittedly, however, this is complaining at a high level, as Hyeung-Min Son and Co. have scored at least two goals in no fewer than twelve of their last 14 PL matches. In another eight of these twelve matches, a bet on at least four goals in the course of the game would have paid off. Many goals are the rule rather than the exception in matches involving the Lily Whites. It is therefore quite possible that the odds of 2.50 in the Bet365 app on Spurs scoring in both halves in the London derby West Ham v Tottenham on Tuesday evening will go through.

An over bet also takes precedence in our eyes in that Tottenham have not won any of their last three away games at the London Stadium against WHU and have generally lost three of their last five capital city duels. However, given their current form and the quality available, we would still lean towards an away win. Especially in view of the fact that van de Ven and Richarlison could make their comeback into the starting eleven. In general, coach Postecoglou can almost draw from the full and field his strong formation.

Predicted Tottenham line-up:

West Ham – Tottenham head-to-head comparison / H2H record

There is a certain tradition in the pairing of these London city rivals. This will be the 122nd time these teams have met in the English top flight on Tuesday evening. Tottenham currently have the edge with 52 wins compared to 42 defeats and 27 draws. However, Spurs have struggled time and again in recent head-to-head meetings. The Hammers, for example, won the first leg 2-1 in the north of the capital. WHU are also unbeaten at home against the Lily Whites in the last three games

West Ham – Tottenham betting tip

We are looking forward to the London city derby between West Ham and Tottenham on Tuesday evening with great anticipation. According to the betting odds, the visitors are the favorites for this match. This is certainly a bold assessment, as Spurs have not won at the London Stadium since 2019. The Irons will also be keen to make amends after losing their away game at Newcastle on Saturday in dramatic fashion by 3-4.

However, if we look at the form curves of both teams and various other figures, the advantages in favor of coach Ange Postecoglou’s side are probably undeniable. Son and Co. have scored at least two goals in twelve of their last 14 PL matches. The Hammers have also conceded a string of goals in recent weeks. Especially against city rivals, the WHU defense suffered catastrophic lapses that led to heavy defeats

Because we still expect a duel at eye level and there is a lot at stake in terms of European Cup qualification, the bet on an away win between West Ham and Tottenham is at least not our prioritized bet. More interesting are the odds that we will see at least four goals on Tuesday evening
