Will Huddersfield continue their winning run?

In many European leagues, matchday 37 would mark the penultimate game of a season. Not so in the English Championship, where 46 matchdays are scheduled at once. The current round opens on Friday evening with a duel between two teams that were represented in the Premier League not so long ago. West Brom and Huddersfield face each other at The Hawthorns.

The hosts were still in the top flight last season and have set a clear target of a direct return. After a good start, promotion has now become a distant memory. The visitors from Huddersfield have been playing in the Championship for three years now and can undoubtedly be called the “hottest team in the league” at the moment. Given recent results, it is very surprising that such high odds are being offered on West Brom vs Huddersfield for a prediction in the visitors’ direction.

Certainly, West Bromwich Albion are considered very strong at home given only two home defeats, however, it should not go unmentioned that Huddersfield have not lost in the league since 27 November. Friday’s game kicks off at 9pm.

West Brom – Statistics & current form

With ex-Germany legionnaire Valerien Ismael, West Bromwich Albion started their mission for promotion. At first it looked quite good, before around the turn of the year sand came into the gear. After only one win from seven league games, Ismael had to leave at the end of January. Steve Bruce (formerly of Newcastle United until the Saudis took over) took over – but there is no improvement in sight.

Liberation strike against Hull

The negative run continued under Steve Bruce and after five competitive games under the neo-coach, only one measly point was recorded. Due to the poor results of the last few weeks/months, direct promotion is a thing of the past anyway, but the top-six place has also become a distant memory. With an eight-point gap to sixth place, a strong finish is needed.

At least the fans were finally able to cheer again last weekend. Thanks to top scorer Karlen Grant (now twelve goals in the season), the team won 2-0 away to Hull City Tigers. The first win after seven games without a win, in which West Bromwich Albion scored only one goal. However, with just 37 goals in 35 league games, West Brom generally do not have an outstanding attacking department.

Home strength gives hope

What odds of under 2.00 are offered on West Brom vs Huddersfield for the home win bet is very surprising given recent results. Value is also not to be found on this bet despite a very good home record (eight wins, six draws, only two defeats). In the last three home games, WBA conceded those two defeats mentioned (against Preston North End and Swansea) and remained without a goal in all three games.

Huddersfield – Statistics & current form

Following relegation, Huddersfield have struggled mightily in the Championship in recent years, with a return to the Premier League never an issue. Rather, the club had to tremble not to be lumped into League One. The 20th and 18th places were a pure disappointment. All the more surprising is this year’s high under head coach Carlos Corberan.

16 league games without defeat

At the same time last season Huddersfield had collected a full 21 points less. The current 62 points even represent a plus of eleven points compared to the final tally last year. Absolutely convincing are especially the results in the last months. Huddersfield Town’s last defeat in the Championship was on 27 November 2021, when they suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Middlesbrough. Since then, 16 games have been played without defeat (nine wins, seven draws).

Last weekend’s clear 3-0 victory against relegation candidates Peterborough United was already the fourth win in a row. These strong performances are reflected in the table and currently Huddersfield Town are only in third place behind AFC Bournemouth on goal difference. Although it must be mentioned that the Cherries still have three catch-up games up their sleeve.

Nevertheless, in view of these results between the struggling home side from West Brom and Huddersfield, a tip in the direction of the visitors is very interesting. If the direct bet on the away win is too risky for you, you should think about Draw-No-Bet 2, because here you also get more than three times the stake in case of success. There is definitely value here!

West Brom – Huddersfield Direct comparison / H2H record

2017/18 this clash still took place in the Premier League (two wins for Huddersfield), since then three more games have been played in the Championship (2019/20 and the first leg). In all three games, betting on a home win was the right decision. Huddersfield narrowly won the first leg of the current season 1-0 against the PL relegated side thanks to a Daniel Sinani goal.

West Brom – Huddersfield Tip

The freefall has at least been halted, but this is still not enough of an argument to recommend betting on the home side at odds of under 2.00 on West Brom against Huddersfield. It is possible that the Blackbirds from West Brom have a squad that is fundamentally a little stronger, but on the pitch the team has too often failed to prove this. Huddersfield, on the other hand, are brimming with confidence and are still flirting a little with direct promotion.

16 games without defeat and four wins in a row – these figures alone justify the prediction on the visitors in West Brom against Huddersfield. If the Draw No Bet betting option even offers more than three times the stake in the event of success, it can definitely be called a value bet. Five units are recommended for this bet
