With the Games just around the corner, the 41-year-old reveals the nature of her injury following her nasty crash in Crans-Montana. Her goal is to still try to hit the course: “I knew my chances; I know the odds aren’t the same anymore, but I still feel strong—even with the help of a brace.”
Bad news for Lindsey Vonn, the 2010 Vancouver gold medalist. The American spoke about her condition at a press conference in Cortina, providing clarity following her nasty fall during the downhill race in Crans-Montana and the resulting knee pain. Unfortunately, the situation isn’t ideal, as Vonn announced she has torn her left cruciate ligament. The outlook for her has changed at this point, but not permanently. Expectations are lower, but her desire to give it a shot and hit the slopes remains intact. Vonn’s situation in Milan-Cortina could make her Olympics even more epic. Here are her words.
Here’s what the American champion said today at a press conference: “I’ve completely torn my left ACL.” She remains confident, though: “Today I put on my skis and felt stable and confident. I’ll try to race in the downhill on Sunday.” And then, “Being here at 41 makes me happy.” On the condition of her knee: “Surgery? Of course, it’s been discussed with the doctors, but it can’t be considered right now because the only thing that matters now is the Olympic Games. We’ll stay in touch to make sure we make the best decision.”
