Atalanta-Roma was decided by a single play: Scalvini’s goal off a corner kick from the left for Atalanta. The ball comes into the middle, Svilar comes out too far and collides with Scalvini, who deflects it into the net. For the referee, it was a legitimate goal. Correct, because Scalvini made contact with the ball after Svilar had already lost it, without committing a foul or handling the ball: the goal stands. 

Svilar reviewed the play in the post-match interview and commented: “I think the footage speaks for itself; when you touch a goalkeeper in the six-yard box, it’s always a foul. The referee told me I had lost the ball first, but then he goes in for the challenge and touches my head, giving me a knock. To me, it’s a foul. Maybe I didn’t get to the ball because of my teammate, but there was contact afterward.” Walter Zenga, speaking on Sky, pointed out that it was a teammate, Rensch, who prevented Svilar from raising his left arm and reaching the ball: “Svilar misses the ball because Rensch is holding his arm; Scalvini is very far away. There is definitely no foul on the goalkeeper.” In short, a goalkeeper doesn’t always agree with another goalkeeper…
