Tayfun Korkut back at his old stomping ground after 37 months

At the moment, both VfB Stuttgart and Hertha BSC are above the line after 13 matchdays. However, because the 15th-placed team will be hosting the current 14th-placed team at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Sunday, both teams are still only in the bottom third of the table and are thus stuck in the unwelcome relegation battle.

The Swabians have a good home record against the capital. VfB have not lost to Berlin in five Bundesliga home games (three wins, two draws). Thus, in the run-up to the match between VfB Stuttgart and Hertha, the odds are swinging in the direction of the home side.

However, things have not been going well for Stuttgart, who have only won one of their last seven competitive matches. The Swabians have even lost four of their last five matches, which is why it is by no means a foregone conclusion to play VfB Stuttgart against Hertha Tipp 1, even with a view to the change of coach in Berlin.

Meanwhile, we see the much greater value in betting that both teams will score. After all, VfB have only conceded one goal in their last 20 Bundesliga games.

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

VfB Stuttgart are one of the most successful German teams as five-time German champions and three-time cup winners. The Swabians did spend a year in the second division in both the 2016/17 and 2019/20 seasons. Overall, however, the club founded in 1893 is fifth in the Bundesliga’s perpetual table.

Last season, the White-and-Red finished a rock-solid ninth in their first year back in the Beletage of German football under Pellegrino Matarazzo.

Only one win in last seven competitive matches

Currently, however, things are not going so well for the club for movement games, which initially managed to win only one of the first six league games and then drifted into the next weak phase after a small series.

Last Friday, the Swabians celebrated an important 2-1 home win over Mainz 05, but before that they remained winless in six consecutive competitive matches (two draws, four defeats). After being knocked out of the DFB Cup, the Red and Whites are now also in danger of losing their place in the Bundesliga, where they are currently only above the top flight due to their superior goal difference over FC Augsburg, who are level on points with them.

Four of last seven home games lost

The Matarazzo team will be under pressure at home against table-toppers Hertha BSC, who have not lost in five consecutive league games. If they can add another win to their tally, the Swabians would definitely overtake the Berliners and gain some breathing space.

Considering that they have only won two of their last seven home games at the Mercedes-Benz Arena (one draw, four defeats), it is surprising that the Swabians are favourites going into this match.

Hertha – Statistics & current form

Hertha BSC won their only two championships to date in 1930 and 1931. Since the introduction of the Bundesliga, however, there have already been 18 seasons in which the old lady was not represented in the first division.

It is therefore a sour grapes for those in charge that the capital city cannot sustain its place in the top third of the table, is regularly represented in Europe and perhaps even competes for titles. Instead, the sad reality is once again relegation.

Korkut’s competitive debut takes place in Stuttgart, of all places

Once again, those responsible recently parted company with Pál Dárdai, who was relieved of his duties after the recent 1-1 draw at home in the basement duel against FC Augsburg.

Tayfun Korkut, of all people, is now expected to pull the cart out of the mud, having not worked as head coach for more than three years since his last stint at today’s hosts VfB Stuttgart. At his old stomping ground, of all places, where he averaged just 1.64 points in 22 games, he is now on the bench for the first time in 37 months.

So far seven goals conceded in the final quarter of an hour

The new coach has to work especially on the declining concentration of his players. The old lady has already conceded seven goals in the final quarter of the league. These goals have already cost the Berliners six points.

The change of coach at the old lady can certainly release new forces, which makes it extremely difficult to bet on the outcome of the match between VfB Stuttgart and Hertha. However, betting that goals will be scored on both sides in this basement duel, the three-way system can be bypassed very well with a very promising tip.

Predicted line-up of Hertha:
Schwolow – Plattenhardt – Stark – Boyata – Pekarik – Serdar – Ascacibar – Maolida – Richter – Jovetic – Piatek

Last matches played by Hertha:

1st Bundesliga
11/27 2021 – Hertha Berlin 1 – 1 Augsburg

11/20 2021 – Union Berlin 2 – 0 Hertha Berlin

11/07 2021 – Hertha Berlin 1 – 1 Bayer Leverkusen

10/29 2021 – Hoffenheim 2 – 0 Hertha Berlin

DFB Cup
10/26 2021 – Preußen Münster 1 – 3 Hertha Berlin

VfB Stuttgart – Hertha Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 30 – 17 – 27

There have been a total of 74 meetings between the two teams and with 30 victories, the Swabians lead the direct comparison by a narrow margin. Most recently, VfB remained unbeaten in five consecutive home games against the old lady (three wins, two draws).

VfB Stuttgart – Hertha tip

It is very difficult to predict the outcome of the match between VfB Stuttgart and Hertha, especially as the visitors come to the Baden-Württemberg capital with their new coach as a mixed bag. Moreover, neither of the two teams is really in good form. VfB have won just one of their last seven competitive matches, while the Old Lady currently have four league games in a row without a win on their record.

It is accordingly coherent to go for the goal bet. Also because the Berliners are very susceptible to conceding late goals, while the Swabians for their part have always conceded at least one goal in 19 of the last 20 league games, betting on goals on both sides is a good idea.
