Can Tottenham keep up with Arsenal and stay in fourth place?

The second best team in the league in 2022 welcomes the recently rather weakening guests from Leicester. Given this constellation, the role of the favourite is clearly assigned. Anything other than a success for Harry Kane and Co. would be rather surprising.

Spurs will once again be hoping for their outstanding attacking duo of Kane and Son, who have already scored a total of 29 goals this season. This means that the two of them alone have just two goals less than the entire Brighton team on the stat sheet.

Last season’s cup winners are playing a rather weak season. With no prospect of international starting rights, at least via the Premier League, the Foxes cannot really be satisfied in this year’s league campaign. Accordingly, the bookmakers clearly point to a home win for Tottenham vs. Leicester.

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

For Spurs, who have just lost the fourth place to Arsenal, it is all about regaining it to be able to participate in the Champions League next season. They will be happy to welcome Leicester to their stadium. They have won seven of their last ten direct encounters against the Foxes.

Across the season, one cannot yet speak of a real home strength of Spurs in the new stadium. They have already lost five games in front of their own fans this season. Last season it was even six. Thus, eleven home games were lost in the last two seasons. In the period 16/17 to 19/20, eleven home games were also lost in four seasons. So this rate has been pushed up in the last two years.

The ballers don’t ignite anymore

Antonio Conte’s men were considered the ballers of the second half until matchday 32. In 14 games, Son and Co. scored 30 times in the opponent’s goal, which was the best in the league at that time. Now two games in a row followed in which Tottenham did not even score and consequently remained without a goal of their own.

Now all eyes are on Harry Kane, who has scored more against no other team than Leicester City (18 goals in 16 matches). Can he end the mini crisis? At least the bookmakers are clearly predicting Tottenham vs. Leicester in favour of the home side. The statistics also speak for a spectacle on the part of the hosts. Tottenham have scored more goals against Leicester than against any other team since 2014.

Meanwhile, coach Conte has an anniversary coming up. The match against Leicester will be the 100th Premier League match of the Italian’s coaching career. All his Italian predecessors who reached this mark (Ranieri, Mancini, Ancelotti) won their 100th game.

Predicted line-up of Tottenham:
Lloris – Davies, Dier, Romero – Reguilon, Höjbjerg, Bentancur, Emerson – Son, Kane, Kulusevski

09/04/2022 – Aston Villa 0 – 4 Tottenham

Leicester – Statistics & current form

For Leicester, the season is ticked off in the sense that there is not too much at stake for them in the league. However, they could end a negative streak with a win at Spurs. The last time Leicester won two consecutive away games at Tottenham was in 1999, and last season’s 2-0 win could do the same again.

However, the omens for this are rather bad. Since their promotion to the Premier League in 2014, the Foxes have conceded more goals against Tottenham than against any other team. 36 in all.

Inglorious record in first leg

On the Foxes’ side, no one is likely to remember the first leg from last January fondly. In that game, a Premier League record was set that everyone at Leicester would probably be happy to do without. Back then, Leicester led 2-1 at home until the 94th minute before Steven Bergwijn scored twice in the 95th and 97th minutes, completely turning the game on its head and setting the record for the latest two goals to turn a game around.

Even though Leicester have a score to settle here, in the three-way market in the clash between Tottenham and Leicester, all betting odds go in Spurs’ direction. Very few people really trust the Foxes.

Supporting this trend is the statistic that Leicester have only won one of their last eleven away games in the Premier League. The 2-0 win at Burnley was the only one of their last 23 away games to end with a clean sheet. Leicester currently have the seventh worst defence in the league with 51 goals conceded. The 0-0 draw last weekend is nevertheless encouraging.

Predicted Leicester line-up:
Schmeichel – Justin, Fofana, Söyüncü, Castagne – Mendy – Maddison, Tielemans, Drewsbury-Hall, Lookman – Daka

29/04/2022 – Leicester 1 – 1 AS Roma

21/04/2022 – Everton 1 – 1 Leicester

17/04/2022 – Newcastle United 2 – 1 Leicester

14/04/2022 – PSV Eindhoven 1 – 2 Leicester

Tottenham – Leicester Direct Comparison / H2H Record

As mentioned above, Tottenham do not score against any other opponent more often than against Leicester City since 2014. Nevertheless, the Foxes were able to win the last away match at Tottenham and even stay without conceding a goal. Overall, the direct comparison is slightly in favour of the home side. Of 93 games against each other, 44 went to Spurs, 33 were won by the Foxes and 16 ended in draws.

Tottenham – Leicester Tip

While Tottenham, who still have duels against Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of them, are completely focused on the Premier League to finish fourth in the table, Leicester’s biggest focus will be on international business. Only a Europa Conference League win could still qualify the Foxes for international duty next season.

The omens for the upcoming duel are clear. Tottenham desperately need the three points. Leicester, on the other hand, do not have much to lose. For whom these conditions will be more useful in the end remains to be seen. Nevertheless, in the duel between Tottenham and Leicester, all odds are clearly geared towards betting on a home win for Spurs.

We go along with this trend and think a Tottenham win is realistic and recommend combining this tip with the Over 2.5 goals one to increase the odds. We bet five units on this.
