Will Sevilla seal Cadiz’s relegation in the Andalusian derby?

The cities of Sevilla and Cádiz are only around 120 kilometers apart. However, the relegation-threatened yellow-and-blues will not be hoping for any help from their Andalusian neighbors on Wednesday evening. Although nothing is at stake for the multiple European Cup winners from Spain’s fourth-largest city, who are currently in eleventh place, coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ team are the clear favorites in the derby.

In the run-up to the match between Sevilla and Cádiz, the bet on a home win is only 1.91 at the top. This rather one-sided assessment is primarily due to the serious away weakness of the elevator team from the southern tip of Andalusia. The “Gaditanos” have not managed a single away win all season. It is therefore unlikely that this dry spell will come to an end in neighboring Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán of all places

If a prediction of a home win between Sevilla and Cádiz comes true during the week, relegation could be just two matchdays away, depending on how the matches between direct rivals Celta Vigo and Rayo Vallecano go. However, with the visitors currently five points behind, they will need a quasi-perfect final spurt anyway…

Sevilla – statistics & current form

Last season, Sevilla FC were crowned Europa League winners. This was followed by a memorable Super Cup final in mid-August, in which they even held their own against CL triumphants Manchester City and only lost on penalties. The signs for a successful season were actually very positive, but for the second year in a row, the Andalusians fell short of their own expectations, especially in La Liga. After finishing eleventh in the previous season, the Red & Whites are currently only in twelfth place. With 41 points, there is no way up; there is just as little danger from below. The remaining matches are therefore more of a statistical nature

Sevilla on the way back to their old home strength

Despite this, the southern Spaniards have set themselves the goal of ending the season as positively as possible and, in particular, giving their own fans the gift of victories. In recent weeks, that has generally worked pretty well in front of their home crowd. Four of the last five La Liga home games have been victorious.

In general, coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ side have celebrated the majority of their victories at home, scoring more goals at home and conceding fewer. As a result, we think there is a good chance that the odds on a home win between Sevilla and Cádiz on Wednesday evening will also go through.

The current form can also be cited as a pro argument, as 13 points collected from the last six league games is a very solid figure, which should also have had a positive effect on the confidence of the “Nervionenses”. In terms of quality, the home side are also better than the relegation-threatened visitors. Nine consecutive La Liga encounters with at least one goal scored are a further indication that the Andalusians have recently gained momentum and are aiming to climb to at least tenth place in the overall standings.

Predicted Sevilla line-up:

Cadiz – Statistics & current form

Hope is still alive at Cádiz Club de Fútbol. Their 1-0 home win over Getafe at the weekend reduced the gap to the safety zone to five points, but they still have their backs to the wall with three matchdays to go. However, with an upcoming match at Sevilla, a home game against Las Palmas next weekend and an away game at relegated bottom side Almeria, the starting position is not hopeless. Nevertheless, they will need some help from the competition

Cádiz’s offense is far too harmless

Apart from that, there is no belief that the Andalusians will suddenly start winning away games. That’s exactly what they haven’t managed to do in the league so far this season. In 17 attempts away from home, they have yet to win a single three-pointer. Six draws contrast with eleven defeats away from home. Only Granada have scored fewer points (three) than Cádiz (six) away from home.

The offensive output is at least as disastrous, as the team of coach Mauricio Pellegrino, who has managed 14 points from 14 matches since taking office at the beginning of January, has only scored a measly eight goals in the 17 La Liga matches mentioned above. Unsurprisingly, the third-last team in the table also has the weakest attack in the entire top flight.

The Whites have failed to score on 17 occasions this season alone. In nine of the aforementioned eleven away defeats, the relegation-threatened team came away empty-handed in attack. We can therefore well imagine that between Sevilla and Cádiz, the prediction of another “to-nil” victory for the hosts will be crowned with success

Predicted Cadiz line-up:

Sevilla – Cadiz Direct comparison / H2H balance

To date, the Andalusian clubs have faced each other 31 times in the Spanish top flight. Sevilla have emerged victorious on 17 occasions, while eleven matches have ended in draws. Cádiz only came out on top three times. At the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, the yellow-and-blues have yet to win at all in 15 attempts (9-6-0). In five of Sevilla’s last six home games against Cádiz, the odds on the visitors not scoring would have gone through. The first leg, on the other hand, was surprisingly high-scoring. It seems unlikely that the 2-2 draw from the end of October will be repeated on a warm Wednesday evening in the south of the country.

Sevilla – Cadiz tip

While the championship race in La Liga has long since been decided and there are unlikely to be any further shifts in the international places, the full focus for the remaining three matchdays is on the relegation battle. Cádiz definitely have the worst cards up their sleeve. The southern Spanish side currently occupy a direct relegation spot and are five points behind the drop zone. Thanks to their 1-0 win over Getafe at the weekend, the Andalusians are still hoping for a sensational mega turnaround.

However, this confidence could be abruptly thwarted on Wednesday evening, as the betting odds point to a home win in the Andalusian derby between Sevilla and Cádiz. We fully agree with this assessment, especially as the home side have won four of their last five home games and have collected 13 points from their last six matches. That said, the Whites are the second-weakest away team in the league, having never left the pitch victorious in 17 matches and scoring a meagre eight goals in all

We therefore recommend a bet on a home win ahead of the Sevilla vs. Cádiz match, which can be played at top odds of 1.91 at Betano. Our stake is five units.
