Duell um den Gruppensieg – Real reicht ein Remis

The two teams have already qualified for the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, but the clash between Real Madrid and Inter Milan is not worthless from a sporting point of view. After all, it is still about the group victory and the associated home right in the second leg of the round of 16. However, both teams will not be at their best due to the intense weeks ahead.

Before the direct encounter in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, there is a lot to be said in favour of a group win for the Royals. Not only the home advantage is an argument for the team around the Austrian team player David Alaba, but also the current table situation. Real Madrid currently have a two-point lead over the Italian champions and would thus already secure the group win with a draw. For Real Madrid against Inter Milan, betting odds around 1.30 are currently offered for the prediction on the double chance 1X.

In the three-way market, a prediction does not seem trustworthy at this stage, as the assessment of which odds are advisable here will depend heavily on who is on the pitch. So far, however, the two coaches have not let their cards show how far the rotation will go. The match kicks off on Tuesday at 9 pm.

Real Madrid – Statistics & current form

While the competition is weakening in the domestic championship, Carlo Ancelotti’s royals have been extremely consistent. After 16 games, the Madrilenians have 39 points out of a possible 48. They are already well ahead of their rivals, with Sevilla FC, their closest rivals, eight points behind. Although the Andalusians still have a game of catch-up to play, this does not change the comfortable situation for Real Madrid.

1,000 International Goal

On the international stage, Real Madrid embarrassed themselves against debutants Sheriff Tiraspol on matchday two (losing 2-1), but otherwise did not show any weakness. With four wins in the remaining four games, their chances of advancing to the next round are already fixed and their chances of winning the group are very high.

History could be made in more ways than one on Tuesday evening. The home match against the Italian champions will be Real Madrid’s 455th match at international level (without qualifications). The white ballet has scored 999 goals so far. The next goal scorer is guaranteed an entry in the history books. This will also go to Croatian Luka Modric, who will become the tenth player in CL history to make 100 appearances. Meanwhile, top scorer Karim Benzema (five goals in the group stage) is only two goals short of Real’s top scorer in the Champions League, Raul Gonzalez (66).

However, the Frenchman was substituted with an injury at the weekend and is unlikely to play against Inter Milan. This will give another chance to Luka Jovic, who was the match-winner in the game against Real Sociedad de San Sebastian. On Tuesday, the betting on Luka Jovic as the goalscorer against Inter Milan is certainly worthwhile.

Courtois – Marcelo, Nacho Fernandez, Vallejo, Carvajal – Camavinga, Valverde, Modric- Asensio, Jovic, Hazard

Inter Milan – Statistics & current form

Last season, the Nerazzurri were still the big disappointment in the group stage of the top flight. This year, too, the Italian champions were already under a lot of pressure after the second day of group play. However, Inter Milan withstood this pressure and celebrated three Champions League victories in a row. With ten points, the Italians already have second place in the group firmly in the bag and will be represented in the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League in the spring of 2022 for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

Winless in Spain since 2004

Winning the group would definitely be a surprise, though, as memories of Spanish teams in the recent past are anything but positive. The last time Inter Milan managed an away win in Spain was in October 2004, when they beat the bats of CF Valencia 5-1. Since then, the Nerazzurri have visited Spain seven times and have lost six of those times.

In the last 17 years, Inter have only managed one draw on the Spanish mainland.

19 points in last seven league games

Neo coach Simone Inzaghi had big shoes to fill at Inter, having to cope without Lukaku and Hakimi. But also this year, Inter Milan is a hot contender to win the Scudetto again. The champions have been in particularly good form in recent weeks. While city rivals AC Milan and SSC Napoli have stumbled a little recently, Inter have rushed from victory to victory.

In the last seven league games, the champions have collected 19 out of a possible 21 points. Only in the derby against their city rivals did the champions have to settle for a 1-1 draw. The defence has also been very strong, having conceded three goals in a row. As neither team is likely to produce any offensive fireworks, but will tend to adopt a wait-and-see approach due to their starting position, Real Madrid and Inter Milan can be bet on a score of under 2.5 or “Both teams meet? No” is a good bet.

Predicted line-up of Inter Milan:
Handanovic – Skriniar, D’Ambrosio, Dimarco – Perisic, Vecino, Vidal, Sensi, Dumfries – Lautaro Martinez, Sanchez

Real Madrid – Inter Milan Direct comparison / H2H record

These two top teams have now faced each other 18 times. Tuesday night’s clash will even be the fourth game in the last two seasons, as this clash already took place last year. Both in the 2020/21 season and in the first leg of the current season, the Spanish representatives came out on top. In mid-September, the game was decided in the closing stages when Rodrygo scored the only goal of the day in minute 89.

Real Madrid – Inter Milan Tip

The progress of Sheriff Tiraspol in Group D is certainly a surprise, but the situation that the two big favourites duel for the group victory on the last matchday can be described as befitting the status quo. The hosts from Madrid have by far the better chances, as even a draw would be enough for the royals to finish the group in first place.

Both teams are in very good shape but still have an intense programme to play before Christmas. Real will certainly rotate in view of the upcoming derby against Atletico Madrid, Inter even have three league games to play before 24 December. Both teams will therefore by no means be at their best. Unconditional offence will not be the order of the day and therefore the forecast on the under 2.5 for Real Madrid against Inter Milan seems promising. Especially since the betting odds seem to be a bit too high.
