Tottenham: The next round is mandatory

Of course, the appeal of cup competition in England is that underdogs meet favoured teams. That is exactly the case at Preston. The bookmakers’ Preston vs Tottenham prediction naturally sees the visitors ahead, as Spurs have clear advantages.

The favourite role for Tottenham is therefore clear, just because of the individual quality. Spurs also play in a higher league, which also makes for a difference in the rating.

While progressing is tantamount to a compulsory task, Spurs shouldn’t think like that.

Away games in the FA Cup can always be tricky. Spurs also offered something every now and then recently, but are also dangerous offensively at all times. Therefore, our Preston vs. Tottenham tip is aimed towards the goals that are likely to be scored in this match.

Preston – Statistics & current form

Preston North End play in the Championship, arguably the toughest second division in world football. There are an extreme number of games, no mercy and three defeats in a row can send a team down as many as five to eight places if in doubt. For the hosts, the current season has been one of ups and downs, which was also clearly manifested in the last few games.

First there were three defeats in a row, then three wins from four games. Before the three defeats mentioned above, four of five games were won. Consequently, the hosts have good and weaker phases, but there is no consistency. But against Tottenham, that is positive, the hosts just need a good game, a night when everything fits.

Unfortunately, a look at the statistics shows that this is not to be expected in a home match. Preston have only won three of 14 home games in the Championship. Exactly one point per game the home side get less at home than away. The home game as a great hope for the sensation therefore falls flat.

Preston need that one outstanding day

It is clear that the home side need the perfect day to challenge Tottenham. Eight goals have only been scored in home games so far, and after seven games Preston had the curious goal difference of 2-0 in the league. The defensive statistics did not last until today, however, as the team is now already on 31 goals conceded. There have been some problems in the game defensively, particularly in recent weeks and months.

Only one of the last seven league games Preston played without conceding a goal. This also does not speak well for the current performance in defence. In the last round of the FA Cup, however, Preston were able to win with confidence, 3:1 against Huddersfield.

Since the hosts like to offer something and the visitors individually have some prerequisites for good football forward, our prediction before the game Preston against Tottenham is that more than 2.5 goals will be scored.

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

It’s not just Preston who have had a season of ups and downs up to this point, the same goes for Tottenham. Spurs wanted to be in the Champions League, but instead there is turmoil at the moment. Contract talks with coach Antonio Conte, who is only under contract until the end of the season, were recently put on hold. And that is only the beginning.

Squad planning is also faltering, some goals could not be pursued. Tottenham are not doing all that well in the league either, fifth place and three points off fourth with one game more to go are not exactly ideal. Of course, there is still a chance to turn this around in the rest of the season. Due to the current turmoil, however, a cup exit should be avoided as a matter of urgency, even a replay cannot be the goal.

After all, Tottenham narrowly won the dress rehearsal against Fulham 1-0, before that there were defeats in the top games against Arsenal and Manchester City. In any case, Spurs have rarely shone against the big opponents. Just three wins in their last seven games is not Spurs’ claim to fame.

Tottenham: Not a bad away record

Generally speaking, there is not too much of a discrepancy between Tottenham’s home and away performances this season. The score is almost identical, and there has even been one less defeat away from home in the Premier League so far. Now, however, Spurs will have to do what they rarely like for long stretches, namely possess the ball and dominate the game.

What definitely needs to be talked about in relation to Spurs is the defence. In eight of their last ten Premier League games, Tottenham conceded at least one goal. Even more, in seven of these eight games the team even conceded 0:1. Especially a disciplinary fanatic like Conte is annoyed by this.

In the end, however, the high quality should prevail here. For this reason, our value tip before the Preston vs Tottenham game is that the visitors will win the match and lead at half-time.

Preston – Tottenham Tip

Preston can definitely hurt Tottenham, but probably only on an absolutely outstanding day when everything goes to plan. The visitors are clearly superior, play a league higher and have at least won the dress rehearsal.

Because of the vulnerability that both teams are currently showing, our tip before the Preston vs Tottenham game is that over 2.5 goals will be scored.
