David Neres is set to undergo ankle surgery. The news, which is not yet official, came after the Brazilian winger consulted with Napoli’s medical staff and a specialist in London, from where he returned late yesterday evening. The former Ajax and Benfica player was injured on January 4 during the away win at Lazio, suffering an unnatural twist of the ankle caused by a divot on the field. Ten days later, in agreement with the medical staff, Conte had called Neres up for the comeback match against Parma and brought him on in the 14th minute of the second half, but Neres was substituted after just 32 minutes due to a flare-up of pain.

Neres’ injury—  In recent weeks, the Brazilian has undergone numerous rehabilitation sessions, but the pain has never gone away. Therefore, to definitively resolve the tendon injury, Neres will undergo surgery. He is expected to be sidelined for about two months, so the Brazilian winger could be available to Conte around the time of the March international break
