Are the Colchoneros back on track?

After four league games in a row without a win, RCD Mallorca recently went on a little run. The Pirates picked up seven of a possible nine points from their last three league games and celebrated two convincing away victories not only at Valencia but also at Villarreal CF.

Contrast that with the Colchoneros, who are winless in four competitive games (two draws, two defeats).

The Rojiblancos’ away streak also snapped recently, losing 3-2 at Cadiz after six games away from home without defeat (five wins, one draw). Accordingly, it is risky to bet on an away win for the Simeone team in Mallorca against Atletico Madrid, which should only be played with hedging.

It should be noted, however, that the Pirates do not have the best home record. Mallorca have won only one of their six home games in league play (two draws, three defeats) and have the third weakest home attack in La Liga with just four home goals. Accordingly, the prediction for Mallorca against Atletico Madrid is that the Rojiblancos will win a point in a game that is not too high-scoring.

The greatest value in this context is provided by the combined bet on the double chance X2 with under 3.5 goals.

Mallorca – Statistics & current form

Real Club Deportivo Mallorca returned to La Liga in the summer of 2021 and under Javier Aguirre just barely managed to stay in the league with only 39 points as 16th in the table.

For the new season, the Pirates now want to establish themselves more firmly in La Liga, secure their place in the league as early as possible and have planning security for the next season. The interim result after 13 completed match days is quite positive.

Five points ahead of the first relegation spot

RCD Mallorca have picked up 16 points (four wins, four draws, five defeats) and occupy twelfth place in the current table with a five-point lead over the first relegation spot. It is already clear that the Mallorcans will spend the very long winter break above the line due to the World Cup.

The Bermellones (the Vermilion) have been playing particularly well in recent weeks. After four winless league games in a row (one draw, three defeats), in which only one goal was scored, the Pirates recently picked up seven points out of a possible nine.

Only four goals from their six home games so far

Now the Balearic club will be looking to build on their recent run at home against the Rojiblancos and record their first home win since mid-September. However, the odds are stacked against the Pirates, who are 17th in the home table with just five points and 4:6 goals against Atletico Madrid.

At least against the Madrilenians, however, the home record is quite consistent. The Mallorcans have only lost two of their last eleven home games against the Colchoneros (five wins, four draws) and most recently won two meetings in a row in La Liga.

Atletico Madrid – Statistics & current form

Atlético Madrid last secured the national championship in Spain in the summer of 2021, recording the eleventh league title in the club’s history. This continued the successful era under Diego Simeone, under whom the Rojiblancos also reached the final of the Champions League twice and won the Europa League in 2012 and 2018.

For the new season, however, it is already clear that there will be no more international glory. The Colchoneros finished bottom of the group and were eliminated from Group B as favourites behind Porto, Bruges and Leverkusen.

Won only one of their last four league games

The unexpected exit from the top flight has also had an impact on their performance in La Liga.

After a solid start, the Rojiblancos have only won one of their last four league games (two draws, one defeat) and have only picked up one point from their last two games against Cadiz (2:3) and Espanyol Barcelona (1:1).

Accordingly, the Colchoneros are going into the English week ticked off, in which not only an away win on the Balearic Islands is a must, but also a place in the next round of the Copa del Rey. After all, the criticism of long-time coach Diego Simeone has recently become louder again, although he has shown his usual fighting spirit.

The second best away team in La Liga

At least the away record is definitely in favour of the Simeone squad, who have picked up 16 of a possible 21 points away from home in La Liga, making them the second-best away team behind city rivals Real Madrid (18 of a possible 21 away points).

In addition, the Rojiblancos have the third-best away defence with only five goals conceded, which is why betting on a point win for the Colchoneros in Mallorca against Atletico Madrid is a solid bet despite their recent poor record at the Visit Mallorca Estadi.

Predicted line-up of Atletico Madrid:

Mallorca – Atletico Madrid Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 16 – 14 – 27

There have been a total of 57 meetings between the two teams so far and the Rojiblancos lead the direct comparison with 27 victories. Not only have the Bermellones won their last two league games in a row, but Mallorca have only lost two of their last eleven home games against Atletico Madrid (five wins, four draws).

Mallorca – Atletico Madrid Tip

Despite the good record of the Pirates and the recent not too good form of the Madrilenians, our prediction goes in the direction of the visitors in Mallorca against Atletico Madrid. Too often in the past, the Rojiblancos have been caught out after a brief period of weakness. In addition, the Colchoneros’ away record is very good overall, while the Mallorcans have only won one of six league games at home.

Certainly no goal festival is to be expected on the Balearic Islands, where RCD have scored only four goals in six home games while conceding six. Accordingly, a lot of value is provided by the combined bet on the double chance X2 with a maximum of three goals.
