Medium form in Mainz?

For a bet on a football match, the form curve is always an important indication of where the journey is heading in a match. It becomes difficult when the curves of both teams run parallel, as in the Mainz vs Wolfsburg match. After all, both teams have had problems in recent matches and now meet in a direct duel.

Mainz, who were almost relegated last season, are still in a decent ninth place, but have slipped into mid-table in recent weeks. For a long time this season, the Rheinhessen team was still in the top third. The next games before Christmas will be decisive for the 05ers.

Wolfsburg was also among the top teams for a long time before Mark van Bommel caused the first small crisis in results. In the meantime, the Wolves are in seventh place, have two points more than Mainz and are the only team in the top half of the table with a negative goal difference. If we judge by the standings alone, then the prediction between Mainz and Wolfsburg should go to a draw.

In any case, you should avoid bets that have anything to do with standard goals in this one. Mainz scored only once after a corner or a free kick, the Wolves not at all.

Mainz – statistics & current form

Bundestrainer Hansi Flick is extremely open to new and young players at the moment. Jonathan Burkardt might be a candidate, because after Jonas Hofmann he is the German attacker with the most goals in the top flight. Otherwise, however, the Rheinhessen’s goals are distributed among eleven players. Burkardt is the only Mainz player to have scored more than once.

Descending tendency of Mainz

Until last week things were going pretty well and the 05ers hadn’t lost for weeks. Now the situation is a little different. Mainz have now gone three games without a win, picking up just two points in the process. Now again, that doesn’t sound like it’s mandatory to play the odds on a home win between Mainz and Wolfsburg.

Last Friday, Mainz conceded a 1:2 defeat in Stuttgart. It was not a particularly attractive match, in which VfB took the lead after 20 minutes. Alexander Hack equalised before the break. Shortly after the changeover, the Rheinhessen side were unable to prevent the second goal and ultimately lost 2-1.

On Saturday, defender Stefan Bell is expected to be back in the starting eleven after serving his yellow suspension. David Nemeth will probably have to return to the bench. Bo Svensson will have to do without three players due to injury. Dominik Kohr, Anderson Lucoqui and Jeremiah St. Juste are not options on Saturday.

Wolfsburg – Statistics & current form

It’s going to be a tough few weeks for VfL Wolfsburg. Within the next 14 days, five games are on the agenda. Above all, next Wednesday against Lille in the Champions League will determine whether the Lower Saxons will spend the winter in the European Cup. One or the other thought may already be with the top flight.

Weak phase for the Wolves

The Wolves should concentrate on the upcoming task, because in the last few weeks, not much went together. In the last three games, there was only one draw and two defeats. However, the opponents in those defeats were also Sevilla and Dortmund. Nevertheless, one could conclude that in the duel between Mainz and Wolfsburg, a prediction of an away win is not very appropriate.

Last weekend there was a home defeat against Borussia Dortmund. Florian Kohfeldt’s team took the lead after just two minutes through Wout Weghorst. At the break, BVB had equalised and in the second period, Borussia took advantage of the available space and won the match 3:1.

The coach is particularly concerned about the fitness of keeper Koen Casteels. It is unclear whether he will be able to play again after his infection. Bartosz Bialek, Xaver Schlager, Marvin Stefaniak and William are certain to miss out.

Predicted Wolfsburg line-up:
Pervan – Lacroix, Guilavogui, Brooks – Baku, Vranckx, Arnold, Paulo Otavio – Lukebakio, L. Nmecha – Weghorst – Coach: Kohfeldt

Mainz – Wolfsburg Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Round 40 times the teams from Mainz and Wolfsburg have crossed paths to date. In the direct comparison, the Lower Saxons are ahead with 16:9 wins with a total of 15 draws. Wolfsburg have not lost in Mainz for five games and have not conceded a goal away from home in three games.

Mainz have won only one of their last eleven games against VfL, but that was in their last meeting. On the last matchday of pre-season, the Rheinhessen side won 3-2 at the Volkswagen Arena, with Jean-Paul Boetius, Robin Quaison and Stefan Bell putting Bo Svensson’s team in front three times. Maximilian Philipp and Joao Victor could only equalise twice.

Mainz – Wolfsburg Tip

You can spin it any way you want. It is very complicated to bet on the outcome of the match between Mainz 05 and Wolfsburg. The bookmakers see both teams roughly on a par. We can imagine that the Rheinhessen have the slightly better cards, even though VfL has always looked quite good in Mainz in recent years.

Currently, both teams are going through a bit of a slump in form and have been waiting for a win for a few games. If we have to bet on a match outcome, then probably more in the direction of a home win. You could also possibly go for a draw-no-bet on a success for the Svensson team between Mainz and Wolfsburg.

But we think Mainz will definitely score at home, possibly once again through Jonathan Burkardt. The Wolves also bring two goal-scoring attackers with Wout Weghorst and Lukas Nmecha. That is why we have decided to play the betting odds on goals for both teams between Mainz and Wolfsburg.
