Special game for Svensson

Bo Svensson is a Mainzer through and through. However, the Dane made his beginnings in the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he was active as a player from January 2006 until mid-2007. Therefore, it is still something special when the coach of Rheinhessen has to prepare his team for a match against the team from the Lower Rhine.

Speaking of Bo Svensson. He is the saviour at Mainz. Under his direction, FSV have picked up a very good 49 points in 30 games. That’s seven points more than Borussia picked up in the same period. The Dane thus not only saved the 05ers from relegation last year, but also led his team into a relaxed area of the standings in the new season.

In the Bundesliga, Mainz are in an outstanding fifth place after ten match days. At present, it does not look as if the Rheinhessen side will have anything to do with the Bundesliga’s relegation battle. Ahead of the kick-off between Mainz and Gladbach, we give our prediction that the Svensson eleven will not have to fight for survival in the top flight this year.

Borussia have come out of the starting blocks worse and are currently in tenth place. However, the Foals have only two points less than the 05ers and have also really picked up momentum in recent games. All in all, it is not an easy task to place the right bet on the match between Mainz and Gladbach.

Mainz – Statistics & current form

Probably Bo Svensson’s greatest achievement is that he has restored a healthy stability to Mainz. This season, the Rheinhessen side have conceded just four major chances and have conceded ten goals, the second fewest in the Bundesliga after Freiburg. With that record, Mainz shouldn’t have much to worry about this year.

Successful English Week

In addition, things couldn’t have gone better for the 05ers during the English week. They won two matches in the Bundesliga and qualified for the last 16 of the DFB Cup with a victory over Bielefeld. In this condition, you certainly have to check the odds on a home win before the duel between Mainz and Gladbach.

After the home victory in the cup over Bielefeld, Mainz also picked up a win against Arminia in the Bundesliga last weekend, but this time at the Alm. Jae-Sung Lee initially put FSV in the lead before the East Westphalians equalised. With his third goal in the third match in a row, Jonathan Burkardt became the match-winner with the 2-1 winner.

In terms of personnel, things are looking very good for the Rheinhessen side. Apparently, only Jeremiah St. Juste will not be available on Saturday after his shoulder operation. There will probably be a minor rotation before the international break. Moussa Niakhate is definitely a candidate for the starting eleven.

Predicted line-up of Mainz:
Zentner – Bell, Hack, Niakhate – Widmer, Kohr, Aaron – Lee, Boetius – Onisiwo, Burkardt – Coach: Svensson

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

Adi Hütter has given Borussia a new look. With 56 percent possession, the Foals are in third position in this statistic behind Bayern and BVB. However, the new football of the team from the Lower Rhine has not yet led to sustainable success. Only slowly does the team seem to have internalised what the new coach demands of them.

Borussia with positive trend

So there was only one defeat in the last six games, but victories against the three Bundesliga teams from the Champions League, namely Dortmund, Wolfsburg and Bayern. Against strong opponents, the Foals gallop and therefore we think it is definitely conceivable to make a prediction on a guest victory between Mainz and Gladbach.

Last weekend, Borussia celebrated a reasonably commanding victory at home against VfL Bochum, even if a 2-1 win sounds tight at first. However, Alassane Plea and Jonas Hofmann had already given their team a 2-0 lead at the break. The visitors from Bochum only managed to score in the 86th minute.

Gladbach are in a slightly worse position than Mainz. With Jordan Beyer, Mamadou Doucoure, Tony Jantschke, Christoph Kramer and Stefan Lainer, several players are missing. In addition, Denis Zakaria is in danger of dropping out after stomach problems. Should the Swiss not be fit, Florian Neuhaus would probably be the first option for the starting eleven.

Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Scally, Ginter, Elvedi, Bensebaini – Zakaria, Kone – Hofmann, Stindl, Plea – Embolo – Coach: Hütter

Last matches played by Gladbach:

1st Bundesliga
10/31 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 2 – 1 Vfl Bochum

10/27 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 5 – 0 Bayern Munich

10/23 2021 – Hertha Berlin 1 – 0 Borussia Mönchengladbach

Mainz – Gladbach Direct comparison / H2H balance

Mainz 05 and Borussia Mönchengladbach have faced each other in 38 matches to date. In the direct comparison, the Foals have a relatively clear lead with 18:10 victories. Ten duels ended in a draw. Especially in the last few years, the team from the Lower Rhine has developed into a real opponent of fear for the Rheinhessen team.

Of the last ten Bundesliga games against Borussia, Mainz have won only one. In addition, the Foals have last won three times in a row in Mainz. However, the last ever meeting resulted in a 2-1 away win for FSV in February this year. Karim Onisiwo and Kevin Stöger scored for the 05ers at Borussia-Park. Lars Stindl equalised for Borussia in the meantime.

Mainz – Gladbach Tip

Mainz 05 is without question in good form and came out of the last English week with three wins, but the opponents were Augsburg and twice Bielefeld. With Borussia, a completely different calibre now awaits the Rheinhessen team.

All in all, a match at eye level can be expected. However, Borussia has won against the strong teams recently and as fifth in the table, the Rheinhessen can probably be put in this category. Therefore, we are inclined to bet on a win for the visitors in the match between Mainz and Borussia.

The statistics of the last direct duels support our assumption, as Mainz have only won one of the last ten games against Borussia and furthermore, the Foals have managed three wins in a row at FSV recently. Therefore, we have decided to play the betting odds on an away win in the match Mainz vs Gladbach.
