Does Liverpool keep the pressure on?

The 35th matchday in the English Premier League will be concluded on Monday evening with a landmark match. Leicester City and Liverpool Football Club are two teams with everything at stake.

The Reds will be looking to keep the pressure on Newcastle and Manchester United in the race for the Champions League places after recent good performances, while the home side are fighting harder than ever to stay in the English top flight.

If, contrary to expectations, the home win bet between Leicester and Liverpool at the King Power Stadium proves correct, the Foxes would even temporarily leave the relegation places and jump up to 17th position. Only the belief in such a liberating blow is somewhat lacking. The sensational champions of 2016 have won only one of their last 13 league games and have recently been extremely unstable, especially defensively. They conceded five goals at Fulham exactly one week ago.

Apart from that, Jürgen Klopp’s team is one of the most in-form teams in the Premier League at this stage of the season. They have won six matches in a row at league level.

LFC have thus brought themselves back into a respectable starting position and are still aiming for a place in the top four, which, however, cannot be achieved by their own efforts. To keep their hopes alive, however, it is imperative that the prediction on the visitors’ treble pays off in Monday night’s Leicester vs Liverpool match.

Leicester – Statistics & current form

The air in the bottom of the table is getting thinner for Leicester City. In addition to the complicated table situation, which currently leads the Foxes to penultimate place with a two-point gap to the saving shore, the remaining programme also serves as an argument for the English champions of 2016 to take the bitter step into the second division seven years after the greatest triumph in the club’s history. In addition to Liverpool, Newcastle United and West Ham are still waiting.

A small glimmer of hope is at least the fact that two of the three matches mentioned take place at home. In the last two matches, four of a possible six points were taken. Among other things, the 2-1 win over Wolverhampton was the only victory in the past 13 Premier League matches. Since mid-February, the Foxes have only managed one win in the Premier League.

Leicester’s record reads like that of a relegated team

In view of this catastrophic yield, which definitely corresponds to that of a relegated team, it is not a smart option for us to check the odds on a surprise coup of the hosts before the duel Leicester vs Liverpool.

Especially not in view of the defensive weaknesses that Dean Smith’s team have shown recently. Eight goals conceded in the last three games underline this impressively. In the last away match at Fulham alone, Leicester lost 3:5 and invited the opponent from London several times. For 20 league games now, the Blues have not gone without conceding a goal. The last clean sheet was in mid-November 2022.

Another complicating factor is that the aforementioned coach Dean Smith has lost four of his five personal direct duels against Jürgen Klopp. Nevertheless, the football coach, who has only been with Leicester for a few weeks, was also responsible for his German opponent’s highest defeat in the Premier League. The Reds once lost 7-2 to Smith-coached Aston Villa…

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

Just a few weeks ago, almost everyone had written Liverpool off in the fight for the Champions League places. The Reds went from disappointment to disappointment, repeatedly suffered unexpected lapses and, especially away from home, simply did not get the necessary consistency in their own performances.

Since mid-April, however, things have changed for the better on Merseyside. LFC have won all of their last six league games. A 6-1 win at Leeds was followed by five wins in a row by exactly one goal. Only five other teams in the English top flight have managed to win six in a row with a one-goal difference.

Seventh win in a row for the Reds?

Meanwhile, the past two matches against Fulham and Brentford were won by the narrowest of results, a 1-0. However, as we don’t expect only one goal to be scored again on Monday, between Leicester and Liverpool the odds on the over 1.5 serve as a conceivable multiplier as part of a bet put together by the betting configurator.

However, because the 2020 champions have struggled away from home all season, winning just five of their 17 matches away from home, there is certainly some risk in betting on LFC, even though Klopp’s side have won eight of their last 11 head-to-head encounters with the Foxes and have scored at least one goal in 12 of their last 13 meetings.

In general, the remarkable form of the Reds’ attack combined with their immense self-confidence provide enough arguments to expect an away win. This is also urgently needed, because with the same number of games, Klopp’s eleven are four points behind the third and fourth-placed teams. If they really want to clinch a CL ticket, they will probably need nine points from the remaining three matches.

Leicester – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

For the 98th time, Leicester will face Liverpool in the top flight of English football. LFC lead the direct comparison with 42 wins compared to 34 defeats and 21 draws. However, the Foxes have won 23 of their 34 victories at home. Among others, Leicester also won the last two home games with 1-0 and 3-1.

However, eight of the other nine recent head-to-head encounters have gone to the Reds, who have averaged 2.1 goals per game in their last 13 Premier League matches against the Foxes. If they manage a similar haul on Monday night, the prediction of an away treble should come true between Leicester and Liverpool.

Leicester – Liverpool Tip

Tension is guaranteed on Monday night in the Premier League. Two teams that are struggling to achieve their goals for the season meet in a direct duel. Nevertheless, the moods could hardly be more different. The Foxes have won only one of their last 13 PL matches, are currently two points behind the top of the table and have not been able to keep the defensive lid on the game.

LFC, on the other hand, have celebrated six league victories in a row, have found their best form in time for the season’s final spurt and have also managed to win eight of the past eleven direct duels against the Foxes. Given the differences in form and quality, it is therefore understandable that the betting odds between Leicester and Liverpool are clearly in favour of the visitors.

We agree with this assessment and even assume that the Reds will already be leading at half-time and will ultimately leave the pitch as winners. For one thing, Leicester have conceded at least one goal in the first 45 minutes in each of their last seven games (eleven in total). On the other hand, Salah and Co. will exploit the available spaces against the Foxes, who will be under pressure.
