Will Arsenal extend their winning streak?

The Premier League leaders do the honours at Elland Road on Sunday lunchtime. The match between Leeds and Arsenal will kick off at 15:00. Odds of 1.55 at the top on the away win underline the clear role of favourites for the Londoners, who have also won five of the past six direct duels in the Premier League against their upcoming opponents.

While the home side would have been expected to spring a surprise against the Gunners in the early weeks of the season, the form curves of these teams have since moved in different directions. While the visitors from the capital have gone from victory to victory and dominated virtually every game, things have not gone well at all for the team of former Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch.

The Whites have gone winless in their last five Premier League games and have slipped down the standings. However, the northerners are still unbeaten at home, which is why you definitely need other arguments to make a prediction on the away win between Leeds and Arsenal. We will explain these in detail in the coming paragraphs.

Leeds – Statistics & current form

In the first three matchdays of this season, Leeds United still belonged to the positive phenomena. The Whites were able to record seven points from the games against Wolverhampton, Southampton and Chelsea. Since then, however, coach Jesse Marsch’s team has gone off the rails. They have failed to win any of their last five Premier League matches. Three defeats and two draws in this period underline the results crisis.

At the moment, the former CL participants, who only just avoided relegation to the Championship last year, are once again only in 15th place. In addition, on Sunday they will be threatened with two league defeats in a row for the first time since May 2022. Judging by recent impressions and the qualitative disadvantages, it is definitely worth considering making a prediction on the away win between Leeds and Arsenal.

Leeds give the ball away too easily and quickly

The Peacocks should not be completely underestimated, however, as Leeds are still unbeaten in front of their home crowd so far this season. They have won two games and drawn two. Only two of the twelve goals conceded have come at Elland Road. Among others, Chelsea were brought to their knees with a 3-0 win. A fortnight ago, they drew 0-0 with Aston Villa in their last home game to date.

Against the Gunners, however, the Whites have been winless on the road for five home games. The three defeats in the past five matches have all been significant, with four goals conceded in each, so the Londoners can certainly be described as a fearsome opponent for the northerners.

As Coach Marsch’s home side are also the team in the Premier League with the fewest periods of possession (at least ten passes played) and are therefore unlikely to provide the necessary relief, the odds on the visitors scoring in both halves should also be taken into account before the Leeds v Arsenal clash. Gray, Dallas, Fuhr Hjelde and Forshaw are out injured. In their place, Junior Firpo returns to the team after suspension.

Predicted Leeds line-up:

Meslier; Kristensen, Koch, Cooper, Struijk; Adams, Roca; Aaronson, Rodrigo, Sinisterra; Bamford

16/10/2022 – Leeds 0 – 1 FC Arsenal

09/10/2022 – Crystal Palace 2 – 1 Leeds

03/09/2022 – Brentford 5 – 2 Leeds

Arsenal – Statistics & current form

Arsenal Football Club just won’t let up. The Gunners have won eight of their first nine league games. Inevitably, coach Mikel Arteta’s side have joined the ranks of England’s championship favourites. If they also win Sunday’s game at Leeds, they would be on 27 points out of a possible 30 after ten matchdays.

Why is that so important? The last four clubs in England’s top flight to win nine of their first ten league games have gone on to win the league at the end of the season! However, despite their impressive haul, the Londoners are only one point clear of Manchester City, so a defeat at Elland Road could see them slip back to the top of the table.

Arsenal prefer attacking football

At the moment, however, there is not much to suggest that the capital club’s streak will be halted. Arsenal have won all of their last three PL games and have always scored exactly three goals of their own. Only in their only defeat of the season against Manchester United (1:3) did they fail to score two goals of their own. But in most cases they needed them, because in only three of the nine matches played at league level did they score a defensive zero after 90 minutes.

In no less than five cases, a bet on an Arsenal victory including goals on both sides would have gone through. If you want to bet that the visiting team will take all three points, but will not be able to keep a clean sheet, you will find a very attractive 3.00 in the top line between Leeds and Arsenal for the bet on “Arsenal win & both score”.

Martinelli & Jesus – a Brazilian duo leads the way

But because the three clean sheets mentioned have actually all come in away games, our preferred betting option for Sunday’s game is a different one. We believe that the leaders will score in both halves, arguing that Arsenal have the best attack in the Premier League behind Manchester City and that the goals scored have been evenly split between the two halves so far. Eleven goals were scored in the first 45 minutes and twelve after the break. In seven out of nine cases, the bet mentioned would have been crowned with success.

Added to this is the form of the offensive players Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus. Martinelli has been in the starting eleven for the Londoners ten times in a row and has scored eight goals. Last week against Liverpool he scored himself and set up another goal in a 3-2 win. Gabriel Jesus, meanwhile, also has five goals and four assists in nine Premier League games. Smith-Rowe and Elneny are definitely out. Zinchenko remains a question mark. Compared to last week’s narrow 1-0 win at Bodö/Glimt, coach Arteta will rotate back and call up all his stars.

Predicted Arsenal line-up:
Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tomiyasu; Xhaka, Partey; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus

16/10/2022 – Leeds 0 – 1 FC Arsenal

Leeds – Arsenal Direct comparison / H2H record

Leeds United have now waited five home games against Arsenal for a treble. Since November 2000, they have not won a game against the Gunners in front of their own fans at Elland Road in the Premier League.

In general, the Londoners have five wins from their last six league games. Most recently, there were even three wins in a row for the former champions. Now, for the first time since the 1930s, four consecutive trebles are on the cards! Last season, Arteta’s side beat Leeds 4-1 and followed that up with a 2-1 win at home in the second leg.

Leeds – Arsenal Tip

The next crunch task awaits Premier League leaders Arsenal FC on Sunday afternoon. Spanish coach Mikel Arteta’s side travel north to face a team that has not lost any of its first four home games this season. Nevertheless, the betting odds between Leeds and Arsenal are clearly pointing towards the Londoners winning as favourites.

This is not unusual, as the visitors have recently won three Premier League matches in a row, always scoring at least three goals and generally winning eight of their nine matches on the domestic stage so far this season. Added to that is the fact that in three of the four visiting matches they have even managed a defensive zero.

But equally worthy of note is the strong attack, which has already scored 23 goals. In seven of nine games, the Gunners scored in both halves, which is why we recommend exactly this tip between Leeds and Arsenal.
