Top of the table match at the Prezero Arena?

On Sunday evening, the seventh matchday of the Bundesliga will be concluded with the top match in the table. For the first time ever, both clubs are in the top four of the Beletage of German football ahead of the Baden-Württemberg duel between Hoffenheim and Freiburg. Depending on the previous results, the winner could even become the new leader of the table.

The Black Forest side will be travelling with a lot of momentum. Freiburg not only celebrated their second win in their second Europa League match during the week, but have also won all of their last four competitive matches at the Prezero Arena. Despite this, however, the odds are swinging in the direction of the hosts ahead of the game between Hoffenheim and Freiburg.

The TSG’s role as favourites can be justified by the Sinsheim side’s home strength so far. Hoffenheim are the only Bundesliga side to have achieved maximum results in their own stadium, with three wins from three home games. Accordingly, it is difficult to make a three-way bet on Hoffenheim against Freiburg.

Also in view of the last duels between the two teams, in which the action was always intense – a total of 15 goals were scored in their three encounters in 2021/22 – we are therefore switching to betting on over 2.5 goals. It is quite possible that a betting provider will include increased odds for this in their programme.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

The TSG Hoffenheim weakened considerably on the home stretch of the 2021/22 season. Also because the club from the Kraichgau took only two of 24 possible points from the last eight league games, the Sinsheim finished the pre-season only in ninth place despite a long fight for an international starting place.

In the new season, under André Breitenreiter, who recently led FC Zurich to the Swiss championship in a completely surprising move, the team will once again attack the top third of the table. All in all, the Blue and Whites are fully on course to achieve this.

The strongest team in the Bundesliga at home

At first, Sinsheim’s winless streak was prolonged when they suffered a 3-1 defeat in Gladbach in their opener. However, TSG went on to win four of their five league games, collected twelve points and climbed up to fourth place. With a home win over Sport-Club, André Breitenreiter’s men would once again move up at least one place in the table.

In particular, the flawless home record clearly speaks in favour of the Blue and Whites, who are the only Bundesliga team to have won all three of their home games. With nine points and 8:3 goals, Hoffenheim leads the Bundesliga home table.

Lost four home games against Freiburg in a row

However, the betting on Hoffenheim against Freiburg is not under the best of omens for a fourth home win for the Sinsheim side, who could thus set a club record for the start of a season. Not only do the visitors from Breisgau arrive in good form. The Sport-Club has also been a bit of a fearsome opponent for TSG.

Hoffenheim only won one of the last eight games against the Black Forest side. In their own stadium, there have been four defeats in a row with 5:14 goals, including the 1:4 in the DFB Cup eighth final in 2021/22. This also suggests that it could be another high-scoring match between the two teams.

Predicted line-up of Hoffenheim:
Baumann – Skov – Nsoki – Vogt – Kabak – Kaderabek – Geiger – Baumgartner – Prömel – Kramaric – Rutter

20/08/2022 – Bayer Leverkusen 0 – 3 Hoffenheim

13/08/2022 – Hoffenheim 3 – 2 VfL Bochum

Freiburg – Statistics & current form

Sc Freiburg were also involved in the battle for the international starting places for a long time in the 2021/22 season and were even allowed to dream of the Champions League. The Black Forest side did not have the best final spurt, winning only one of their last four league games. In the end, however, it was still enough for sixth place.

This is the second time since the 2013/14 season that Sport-Club has represented the Bundesliga in the Europa League. And while they paid a lot of dues back then, the performance of Streich’s team in the league suffered greatly. In the end, Freiburg finished in 14th place.

13 points out of a possible 18 from the first six games

This time, however, things are looking very different in all respects for the players from Breisgau, who not only picked up two wins from two games in the Europa League preliminary round and triumphed 3-0 at Olympiakos Piraeus during the week. They also have 13 points out of a possible 18 in the Bundesliga.

After the fifth matchday, the Black Forest side even led the table for a week. If Union Berlin fail to beat Wolfsburg at home on Sunday, Christian Streich’s squad could even greet them from the sunny side again with another win in Sinsheim.

Without conceding a goal in four of their six league games

The strong defence in particular speaks for the Europa League participant. They have conceded just five goals in six league games so far, making the Black Forest side the second-best defensive team in the Bundesliga.

Even more impressive, however, is the fact that Freiburg have gone four of these six games without conceding a goal – a league-wide record. It is therefore all the more surprising that the bookmakers see Sport-Club in the underdog role in the Baden-Württemberg clash.

Predicted line-up of Freiburg:

Hoffenheim – Freiburg Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 7 – 10 – 11

The two teams have met a total of 28 times and SC Freiburg lead the direct comparison with eleven victories. The Black Forest side have lost just one of their last seven competitive matches against Hoffenheim (five wins, one draw) and also celebrated a 4:3 away victory in their last visit to the Prezero Arena.

Hoffenheim – Freiburg Tip

In fact, it is extremely difficult to make a prediction on the outcome of Hoffenheim against Freiburg. After all, both teams go into the game with plenty of tailwind. On the one hand, TSG is the strongest team in the Bundesliga at home. On the other hand, the Sport-Club has won its last four away games at the Prezero Arena very clearly. The Black Forest side also celebrated a strong 3-0 victory at Olympiakos Piraeus in the Europa League during the week.

So it makes a lot of sense to switch to an alternative tip. The over bet in particular catches the eye. In the last four encounters between the two teams at the Prezero Arena, a total of 19 goals were scored – an average of 4.75 goals per match.
