Will Sinsheim’s winless streak continue?

Both Bundesliga teams TSG Hoffenheim and VfL Bochum made it through the first round of the DFB Cup without a loss. However, both teams suffered an opening defeat in the top flight of German football. This circumstance also extended the winless streak of the kickers from the Kraichgau, who have thus not won for ten Bundesliga games this season.

Now, of all times, TSG is facing a sort of fearful opponent in the form of the team from the Ruhr region. The Baden-Württemberger have lost four of their six meetings with VfL – including the last three in a row. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the match between Hoffenheim and Bochum, the odds are swinging in the direction of the home side.

Bochum remained winless for the eighth consecutive matchday in the Bundesliga last weekend in a 2-1 home defeat to Mainz 05. Last season, however, the team from the city of Grönemeyer was able to turn things around on the second matchday and record their first three points.

We are confident that VfL will again win a point against TSG. A lot of value can be found in the double chance betting on Hoffenheim against Bochum.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

Though TSG Hoffenheim have now been firmly established in the top flight of German football for 15 years, they have recently experienced very troubled times. For two seasons in a row, conditions were actually good to challenge for a starting spot in the international competitions. For two seasons in a row, however, they only managed a mid-table finish.

The reason for this was certainly the constant bad luck with injuries, which has been a common thread throughout the last few seasons. Coach André Breitenreiter is currently without five injured players in addition to the suspended Stefan Posch.

Winless in ten league games over the season

The team from Kraichgau had a promising preparation, which included four wins and a draw in five test matches. In their first competitive match in the DFB Pokal, however, the Sinsheim side struggled to a 2-0 away win at underclass club SV Rödinghausen after a goalless draw.

Last weekend, moreover, the winless streak in the Bundesliga was prolonged. The 3-1 defeat in Gladbach means that the team has now gone ten games in a row without a win in the top flight of German football. The only other time the Baden-Württemberger have gone winless for longer was in the 2008/09 season (twelve games in a row).

Only two shots in Bundesliga opener

The fact that Breitenreiter’s eleven fired just two shots in the 1-3 defeat in Gladbach and produced little offensively is particularly worrying. So there is not much to suggest a turnaround, especially since the last three meetings with VfL were all lost.

The bookmakers, however, believe that the team from Kraichgau will win the match at home.

Bochum – Statistics & current form

After eleven consecutive years in the second division, VfL Bochum returned to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2021. There, the selection of promotion coach Thomas Reis was considered a red-hot candidate for direct relegation.

In the end, however, the players from the Ruhr area proved all critics wrong and finished a strong season in twelfth place in the final table. Nevertheless, the Verein für Leibesübungen is once again considered a relegation candidate for the 2022/23 season, but the team from the city of Grönemeyer is motivated by this, as the coach recently revealed.

Hoffenheim – Bochum Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 2 – 0 – 4

The two teams have faced each other a total of six times so far and with four victories, VfL clearly leads the direct comparison. Most recently, three meetings in a row went to the Bochum side, who also won the last guest game in Sinsheim with 2:1.

Hoffenheim – Bochum Tip

When it comes to Hoffenheim against Bochum, our prediction tends to go in the direction of the visitors, who were not only much more convincing in the cup, but also looked much more mature last weekend in their home defeat than TSG did in their lost opening game in Gladbach. Moreover, it was Hoffenheim’s tenth league game in a row without a win.

In addition, the direct comparison is clearly in favour of Bochum, who have won the last three meetings with the team from Kraichgau. Accordingly, we see a lot of value in betting on a point win for the Reis team.
