Will Freiburg jump to the top of the table?

It was less than five months ago when SC Freiburg suffered perhaps the bitterest defeat in the club’s history, losing out on penalties in the cup final to RB Leipzig at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. The Breisgau side will return to action for the first time since that game when they face Hertha BSC away on Saturday.

Obviously Christian Streich’s side have digested that defeat well, however, as SC Freiburg have made the best start to a season in their Bundesliga history so far with 17 points after eight games. The club is currently second in the Bundesliga and could even take the lead in the standings on Sunday, as leaders Union Berlin will only play in Stuttgart afterwards.

Hertha are where you would expect them to be in the table. At the moment, they are in 14th place with seven points, and the cushion on the relegation places is only two points.

However, the Berliners have stabilised in recent weeks under Sandro Schwarz and are not considered a points supplier, at least not at the moment. Therefore, the risk of betting on an away win could be incalculable. Therefore, our tendency is to add a draw-no-bet to a bet on a three-goal win for the visitors between Hertha and Freiburg.

Hertha – Statistics & current form

It’s quite absurd what all this comes to light in the background of the old lady around the investor Lars Windhorst. Hertha is and probably remains the scandalous club in the German Oberhaus. Sandro Schwarz’s team must not be impressed by all the upheavals in the management, because it is a matter of getting every point possible in the fight to stay in the relegation zone.

Four games unbeaten

The Herthans are making a decent haul in recent weeks, but four games without defeat are too few to pull away from the relegation places. Of course, this is also due to the fact that the Berliners have only shared the points three times recently. Therefore, we can possibly disregard the odds on a home win in the duel between Hertha and Freiburg.

Last weekend ar the TSG Hoffenheim guests and the Hertha delivered a very decent game, but failed to reward themselves with three points. The Kraichgauer took a 1-0 lead after 25 minutes, but it was up to Dodi Lukebakio to equalise before the break. No more goals were scored, so the capital city side had to be content with yet another points division.

Sandro Schwarz will have to make at least one change on Sunday. Filip Uremovic will probably have to miss out due to an ankle injury. Agustin Rogel is likely to move into central defence. Marco Richter would also be a candidate to provide more impetus in the offensive. Jean-Paul Boetius, Linus Gechter and Kelian Nsona are still not playing.

Projected line-up of Hertha:
Christensen – Kenny, Rogel, Kempf, Plattenhardt – Sunjic, Tousart, Serdar – Lukebakio, Kanga, Ejuke – Coach: Schwarz

Freiburg – Statistics & current form

For months, SC Freiburg have been waiting for a crisis. In the meantime, however, it is becoming increasingly clear that the Breisgauers are not playing beyond their means, but belong exactly in the area of the table where they are now. If that continues, it would be no surprise if the Sportclub were to play in the Champions League for the first time next season.

Bearish in all competitions

Christian Streich’s team has shown that it can compete internationally, especially in the Europa League, where there were three wins in three games. A place in the last 16 should only be a formality. In addition, they are still in the DFB Cup and are doing great in the Bundesliga. The Breisgau team has only lost one of twelve games this season. That’s why you should be cautious about predicting a defeat for Hertha against Freiburg.

On Thursday, Freiburg were still active in the Europa League and hosted FC Nantes. Once again, the Sportclub showed a very mature performance and has one leg in the knockout round after the 2:0 win. Advancing should only be a formality. Daniel Kyereh and Vincenzo Grifo scored the two goals for the Breisgauer.

The question will be whether Christian Streich has overcome his infection on Sunday and will return to the sidelines. In terms of personnel, it will depend on how fresh the players are after Thursday’s match. There could be a tendency to rotate in some positions. The Freiburg team is still missing only Kimberly Ezekwem and Roland Sallai due to injury. However, Michael Gregoritsch is still a question mark.

Predicted line-up of Freiburg:
Flekken – Sildillia, Ginter, Lienhart, Günter – Eggestein, Höfler – Doan, Kyereh, Grifo – Gregoritsch – Coach: Streich

Hertha – Freiburg Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Hertha BSC and SC Freiburg have crossed paths a total of 47 times to date. In a direct comparison, both teams are almost equal. After victories, the Berliners have gained a small advantage with 16:14. Another 17 games ended in a draw. Last season, the Breisgauers set out to soon draw level after victories.

Indeed, both games last season went to the Sportclub. First, Christian Streich’s team won 2:1 at the Olympiastadion. The return match in Freiburg was then a clear affair for the Breisgauer , who prevailed with a commanding 3:0. Vincenzo Grifo, Kevin Schade and Lucas Höler were the goalscorers for the hosts.

Hertha – Freiburg Tip

Hertha are really on a roll and haven’t lost in four games. However, Sandro Schwarz’s team had to share the points in each of the last three games. That’s why the Capitals are treading water in the standings. Nevertheless, Hertha has recently shown that this team is capable of standing firm.

SC Freiburg, however, is a team that can now perhaps be described as a heavyweight in the Bundesliga. They have lost only one of their twelve competitive matches this season.

But we can well imagine that it will not be an easy passage for Christian Streich’s eleven. That’s why we wouldn’t necessarily bet on a clear away win or many goals. Therefore, we keep the risk low and have decided to play the betting odds on a win for the Sportclub with DNB between Hertha and Freiburg.
