Do the Foals gallop towards the chasing pack?
Borussia Mönchengladbach against VfB Stuttgart, that is a piece of Bundesliga history. Among other things, this is made clear by the fact that on the last matchday, the Swabians moved past Hamburger SV in the eternal table of the top flight on actual points scored and now occupy fourth place there. Borussia can be found in sixth place.
Both teams have faced each other four times in the Bundesliga’s top match, which has only existed in this form for a few years. The Swabians have never lost to the Foals on Saturday night. In addition to two wins for VfB, there have been two draws. Nevertheless, Borussia should be the favourites on Saturday.
Adi Hütter had some teething problems on the Niederrhein, but in the meantime the Gladbachers are getting better and better into their stride.
The Swabians have eight points on their account and are in twelfth place. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team will have to look to increase the cushion on the relegation places, even if the chances at Borussia-Park are not outstanding. In our opinion, you are better off betting on a home win in the match between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart.
Gladbach – Statistics & current form
When a new coach is installed, it’s clear that not everything is going as smoothly as you’d imagine yet. Adi Hütter is in the process of putting on the right tactical dress for his new team. Apparently, the three-man backline fits best, because the team from the Lower Rhine has won all three Bundesliga games this season with this formation.
Borussia’s comeback?
So Borussia seem to have found their tactics and probably would have liked to do without the international break, because before that they had two Bundesliga wins in a row for the first time since April. There is a lot to suggest that the odds on a home win in the clash between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart should therefore be scrutinised more closely.
Gladbach have only lost one of their last seven home games in the top flight, but this one was against the Swabians. Most recently, there were two important victories against the top teams from Dortmund and Wolfsburg. The Foals won 3-1 against the Wolves after goals from Breel Embolo, Jonas Hofmann and Joseph Scally.
There are still some question marks in the personnel area for the match against VfB. For Ramy Bensebaini, the match should still come too soon. Christoph Kramer will definitely not be involved and will possibly sit in the stands next to Stefan Lainer and Marcus Thuram. Manu Kone could be an option again
Predicted line-up of Gladbach:
Sommer – Ginter, Elvedi, Beyer – Scally, Kone, Zakaria, Netz – Hofmann, Stindl – Embolo – Coach: Hütter

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form
VfB Stuttgart not only has a fast and hungry team. Especially at standards, the Swabians are extremely dangerous. VfB have scored five goals with their heads in the first seven matchdays. That is a league best and in this context it is not surprising that Stuttgart have the best record in this area with five goals by defenders.
Great personnel worries
Standards are generally rarer away from home, though, and perhaps that’s why Pellegrino Matarazzo’s eleven can’t really get going away from home. The Swabians have won only one of their last eight away games, but this one was at Borussia-Park. Nevertheless, it remains the case that a home win between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart is probably the only alternative.
Before the internationals, there was a very important victory for VfB. TSG Hoffenheim were the guests in the derby. Marc-Oliver Kempf was already on the spot after 18 minutes with the 1:0. Konstantinos Mavropanos increased the lead to 2:0 after one hour, before Roberto Massimo made everything clear ten minutes before the end. The consolation goal from the Kraichgau side was no longer a problem.
The Swabians currently have major problems in terms of personnel, as it is clear that the pandemic is far from over. Waldemar Anton, Florian Müller and Erik Thommy are out after positive tests. They are still hoping that at least substitute keeper Fabian Bredlow will still test negative, otherwise 20-year-old Florian Schock would have to guard the goal. Also missing are the injured Momo Cisse, Fabian Egloff, Sasa Kalajdzic, Mohamed Sankoh and Silas.
Predicted line-up of VfB Stuttgart:
Bredlow – Mavropanos, Ito, Kempf – Karazor, Sosa, Mangala, Endo – Coulibaly, Führich – Marmoush – Coach: Matarazzo

Gladbach – VfB Stuttgart Direct comparison / H2H-Balance
Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart have faced each other a total of 104 times in competitive matches, including the 1980 UEFA Cup semi-final. In the direct comparison, the Swabians have gained a slight advantage. After victories, the Swabians are 41:34 ahead, 29 duels ended in a draw.
Last season, the two teams went toe-to-toe in three matches. The first leg in the Bundesliga initially ended in a 2:2 draw in Stuttgart. Just two weeks later, Gladbach won away in the DFB Cup before VfB took revenge on the penultimate matchday with a 2-1 away win in the Bundesliga.
Gladbach – VfB Stuttgart Tip
On the 33rd matchday of last season, VfB won 2-1 at Borussia-Park. It was the last home defeat for the Foals and the last away win for the Swabians. That’s why the team from the Lower Rhine is the favourite in Saturday’s top match, even though they have never won against VfB on a Saturday at 6:30 pm.
However, we think the upswing will continue for the Foals. Adi Hütter seems to have found the right tactics for his new team and after two wins in a row, we expect Borussia to win another three.
There were always at least three goals in three games between these two clubs last season. Due to many missing players at the Swabians and possibly without a professional keeper, we assume that the Foals will win. We have therefore decided to play the betting odds between Gladbach and VfB Stuttgart on a home win and a total of more than 2.5 goals.
