Does the Franconians’ misery continue against the Eisernen?

SpVgg Greuther Fürth continue to break one negative record after the next. Recently, the cloverleaf became the first Bundesliga team ever to lose twelve consecutive league games. Now, not only could this record be extended to 13 games this weekend, but another negative record beckons: Never before has a Bundesliga club lost six home games in a row.

While the Eisernen are not a team that is too strong away from home, they are now guests at the Sportpark Ronhof. The Köpenicker won only one of their last twelve Bundesliga away games. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the match between Fürth and Union Berlin, the odds are swinging in the direction of the capital city side.

Even after the last three weekends, which brought the Central Franconians not only three more defeats, but an incredible 17 more goals conceded, practically everything speaks for an away win for the Köpenicker, who are very solid overall. We also see a lot of value in betting on Fürth against Union Berlin, with at least a two-goal difference on the scoreboard once again.

Fürth – Statistics & current form

SpVgg Greuther Fürth were surprisingly promoted to the Beletage of German football in the summer as runners-up of the 2. Bundesliga. The Central Franconians have already celebrated three German championships in 1914, 1926 and 1929. However, the 2012/13 season was the only season that the cloverleaf has ever spent in the Beletage of German football.

Even then, the Green-Whites were ingloriously relegated to the bottom of the table with only four wins from 34 league matches. A similar fate is likely to befall the top favourites in the Bundesliga relegation 2022 forecast again next summer.

Never won in 23 Bundesliga home games

Curiosity is the fact that the Franconians have not won any of their 17 home games in their first and only season in the Bundesliga (four draws, 13 defeats). Combined with the recent negative streak, this means that they have now gone 23 home games without a win in the top flight of German football.

This is just one of many negative records that the Cloverleaves have already broken after their dismal start to the season with only one point out of a possible 42. Should they also lose their home game against Union Berlin on Sunday, they would be the first Bundesliga team ever to lose six home games in a row.

Averaging 3.3 goals conceded per league game

However, there is not much hope for a turnaround against very consistent Eiserne with a view to recent results. In the last three league games alone, there have been a total of 17 more goals conceded, bringing the Franconians to a total of 46 goals conceded – an average of 3.3 per game.

Union Berlin – Statistics & current form

1. FC Union Berlin were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in the summer of 2019. Quite a few experts expected the football club from the East Berlin district of Köpenick to be relegated again in a similarly miserable manner as was the case in 2012/13 with their current opponents from Central Franconia.

In fact, however, the Eisernen have never had to fight relegation in any of their three years in the Bundesliga. They finished eleventh in their debut season before even qualifying for the Conference League in seventh place last season.

The second fewest defeats in the Bundesliga

This week, the European adventure ended in the preliminary round with a 1-1 draw at home to Slavia Prague. At national level, however, Union Berlin are well on the way to setting the course for another season in European competition.

They have only lost three of their 14 league games – the second-fewest defeats of all Bundesliga teams behind Bayern – and currently occupy sixth place. With an away win at the hapless Kleeblatt, it would theoretically even be possible for them to jump into the top four.

Only one win in the last twelve Bundesliga away games

While the capitals have their problems here and there, especially away from home. After all, only one of the last twelve Bundesliga games has been won away from home (six draws, five defeats).

However, with a view to the fact that at least one goal has been scored in each of the last seven away games, betting on a three-goal win for Fürth against Union Berlin at the Sportpark Ronhof is very favourable. After all, three of the last five competitive matches against the Spielvereinigung have been won.

Fürth – Union Berlin Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 10 – 10 – 5

The two teams have faced each other a total of 25 times so far, with the Eisernen only managing five wins against the Kleeblatt. Three of those five victories, however, have come in the last five competitive matches to date.

Fürth – Union Berlin Tip

For Fürth against Union Berlin, our prediction is largely influenced by the incredible slump of the promoted team. The cloverleaf has already set several negative records for eternity. Be it the yield of only one point out of a possible 42 or the 23 Bundesliga home games in a row without a win. In view of the flood of goals conceded – 17 in the last three league games alone – there should be nothing to be gained against consistent Berliners.

The Köpenickers are not known for their strength away from home. Nevertheless, it should be difficult for us to see anything going wrong against the Bundesliga’s bottom team, which is why we even apply a small handicap of -1 to the capital city side.
