Will Spurs confirm their strong start?

Compared to the FA Cup, the EFL Cup, the English League Cup, enjoys much less importance on the island. However, especially for lower-ranked clubs or mid-table clubs that have not been able to qualify for European business, this competition offers a good platform to add a trophy to their own showcase. While the internationally represented teams from the Premier League do not get involved until the third round, the remaining twelve first division clubs are challenged for the first time on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Since there is only one lottery pot, we can also look forward to a real cracker right away. In an explosive London derby, Fulham and Tottenham face each other. The forecast for the outcome of the game will depend, among other things, on how seriously the two coaches take this Carabao Cup. In order to make a better assessment, we will also look at the competition history of the clubs in the further course of this analysis.

The capital clubs should not be lacking in self-confidence, as the Whites earned a respectable point against runners-up Arsenal while Tottenham have made an excellent start to the new season with seven points from three matches. However, it remains to be seen whether the good performances will be enough to make a bet on the away win after regular time in the Fulham vs.

Fulham – Statistics & current form

Fulham Football Club celebrated an impressive 15 wins last season in the English top flight as a promoted team. After the “Cottagers” had previously had to cope with immediate relegation to the Championship twice in a row in their premiere year as a newcomer, tenth place in the final standings was a terrific success that was closely linked to coach Marco Silva.

In the summer, the extremely passionate liaison between the Portuguese soccer coach and the English capital club almost came to an end, but the 46-year-old coach turned down a high-paying offer from Saudi Arabia and remained loyal to the Whites. Fans would have expected the same from their top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, but the Serbian striker preferred to follow the lure of money to the desert.

Morale keeps Fulham dreaming of next coup

Nevertheless, the Londoners can be relatively satisfied with the first three match days. Four points have been recorded so far. The only defeat came at home in a 3-0 loss to Brentford. The biggest success was not the 1-0 opening win against Everton, but the point gained at Arsenal FC at the weekend, which tasted particularly good in that Silva’s team only managed to equalize 2:2 when they were shorthanded and just before the end of the game.

For the team’s morale and self-confidence, there could hardly have been a better course of this exciting derby. It is therefore quite conceivable that the home side will take the momentum into the EFL Cup and surprise there. It is also clear that the Fulham vs Tottenham odds alone inevitably suggest that the bookmakers give the visiting team the better chance of progressing.

Possibly, this is also due to the fact that the last time FFC was in the round of 16 of the League Cup was in 2014/15. In the last six seasons, the team has reached the second round three times. In most cases, however, the “Cottagers” failed against weaker opponents. Perhaps the implied underdog role is therefore even a small advantage with regard to Tuesday.

Predicted lineup of Fulham:
Rodak; Mbabu, Adarabioyo, Ream, Robinson; Reed, Lukic; Traore, Cairney, Wilson; Vinicius

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Silently, Tottenham has become one of the most positive surprises in the Premier League in the first three matchdays. Despite the fact that the Harry Kane transfer controversy has kept the club on tenterhooks throughout the transfer period, and the England captain ultimately decided to turn his back on the club of his heart, the Lily Whites have gotten off to an excellent start.

The Londoners have already picked up seven points. After a 2-2 draw with Brentford at the start of the season, Manchester United and Bournemouth were both beaten 2-0. In both cases, Spurs impressed with a very attractive attacking style and an unexpectedly stable defense. New coach Ange Postecoglou has already made a lot of changes in his two-month tenure and has clearly turned the right screws.

Can the Postecoglou team already deliver consistently?

Accordingly, the 2019 Champions League finalists will also be aiming to progress in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, although THFC were knocked out in the third round by relegation candidates Nottingham Forest in pre-season in this competition. The bottom line, however, is two semi-final appearances and one final appearance in the last five years, which is certainly taken into account by the best bookmakers when assigning odds between Fulham and Tottenham.

Nevertheless, we are not a friend of betting on an away win of the Londoners, because on the one hand, the odds mentioned are too low in our eyes to identify an attractive value. On the other hand, Spurs have primarily had problems in opposing stadiums last season.

Also in the still young 2023/24 season, the performances away from home were less convincing than the home win against Manchester United. There is therefore a certain residual risk, especially since the squad is not necessarily one of the top six on the island. A planned rotation could therefore be accompanied by a loss of momentum, which the Tottenham team, which has been completely renewed in many respects in terms of personnel and playing ideas, will not be able to reciprocate.

Predicted lineup of Tottenham:
Forster; Emerson, Sanchez, Van de Ven, Davies; Hojbjerg, Skipp, Lo Celso; Perisic, Richarlison, Solomon

Fulham – Tottenham Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

The first league record of Fulham against Tottenham reads quite disastrous. Of 54 encounters in the English top flight, the Whites were able to win just eight matches. This compares with 14 draws and 32 victories for Spurs. The EFL Cup was much more balanced. Here, the Lily Whites lead the head-to-head with just 2:1.

In the preseason, Tottenham narrowly prevailed in both the first and second legs in the Premier League. However, because there have been many changes on both sides and this is a different competition, the head-to-head comparison is likely to play only a minor role when looking at the Fulham vs Tottenham prediction.

Fulham vs Tottenham prediction

The absolute firecracker of the second round in the EFL Cup will be contested on Tuesday evening Fulham and Tottenham. That the tip on the guests thereby lower quotiert and thus considered more likely, has a few reasons. Spurs have started the season excellently with seven points even without Harry Kane, have been in the semi-finals of this competition three times in the last five seasons and also have an exorbitantly good record against the upcoming opponent.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the third-placed team in the Premier League, under the guidance of coach Postecoglou, can actually display the consistency that allows them to target an away win at Fulham after 90 minutes. We expect more of an even match, probably even with goals on both teams.

But we see even more value in the duel Fulham vs Tottenham in the betting odds on the Whites not leaving the field as losers after 90 minutes. The wards of coach Marco Silva got a point of morale at the weekend at Arsenal outnumbered, are an unpleasant opponent at home and now want to finally achieve something in the cup in the second year after promotion. Consequently, we place our notional six unit bet on double chance 1X at appealing top odds of 1.93.
