Does Eintracht continue their run?

These are the big games Eintracht Frankfurt have been working towards and now get to play after winning the Europa League last season. On Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspurs will be the guests at Deutsche Bank Park. It will be Eintracht’s second home match in the top flight. In the process, the Hessians are threatened with a sad negative record, as so far only Schalke 04 have lost their first two home games in the Champions League as a Bundesliga team.

However, Tottenham Hotspurs seem to be the ideal opponent to celebrate Eintracht’s first home win, at least from a purely statistical point of view. The Londoners have lost their last four games in the Champions League against German opponents, twice against Bayern and twice against RB Leipzig. Eintracht, on the other hand, have won their last three duels with English teams.

It could be a groundbreaking match in the fight to stay in the top flight. Sporting Lisbon lead the standings with six points. The Hessians and Spurs follow with three points each. Olympique Marseille are at the bottom of the table after two defeats.

If Antonio Conte’s team is vulnerable, however, it is mainly away from home. Eintracht, on the other hand, have really picked up momentum ahead of this important clash. Therefore, we think it is conceivable that you can be right with a tip on a point win for the Hessians in the match between Frankfurt and Tottenham. The odds for the double chance 1X still sound very interesting.

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form

Austria and the Champions League, that’s not a particularly successful chapter so far. However, Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner could open a new page in this book on Tuesday and become the first coach from the Alpine republic to celebrate two victories in a row in the Champions League. In fact, the success in Marseille was the first win by an Austrian coach since Ralph Hasenhüttl five years ago.

Self-confidence through winning streak

Not only the victory in Marseille showed that Eintracht are capable of beating Spurs, but the Hessians are generally in good form. They have won three of their last three competitive matches. Oliver Glasner’s team has climbed to sixth place in the Bundesliga. After this run of success, it is certainly worth considering playing the odds on a home win in the Frankfurt vs Tottenham match.

After all, Frankfurt inflicted their first defeat on leaders Union Berlin in the German top flight last weekend. Eintracht picked up a deserved 2-0 win at Deutsche Bank Park. Mario Götze and Jesper Lindström scored both goals before the break. Twenty minutes before the end, Randal Kolo Muani was shown the red card, but this has no consequences for the top flight.

However, Mario Götze also had to be substituted injured against the Berliners. However, it was probably more of a precautionary measure. The 2014 world champion should be in the starting eleven on Tuesday. On the injured list, Eintracht has a few names with Jerome Onguene, Almamy Toure, Aurelio Buta, Kristjan Jakic or Mehdi Loune, and not even all of them are registered for the Champions League. As it looks, Oliver Glasner will bring a line-up onto the pitch on Tuesday that should be very close to his desired formation.

Predicted Frankfurt line-up:
Trapp – Ndicka, Hasebe, Tuta – Sow, Rode, Knauff – Kamada, Lindström, Götze – Kolo Muani – Coach: Glasner

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

The Champions League is not exactly Tottenham Hotspurs’ competition at the moment. When you hear that they have only lost a quarter of their last 16 games, you can live with that. However, there were those four defeats in the last five games. In addition, England have lost three of their last three away games in the top flight, including twice in Germany.

Derby defeat in the ruck

On the other hand, Antonio Conte can be very pleased with the performance in the Premier League so far. After eight games, Spurs are in third place behind Arsenal and Manchester City. However, they also suffered their first defeat of the season in the league last weekend, meaning the Londoners have lost two of their last three competitive games. Therefore, between Frankfurt and Tottenham, the prediction does not necessarily have to go to an away win.

On Saturday, the North London derby at the Gunners was on the agenda for Spurs. It was a real top-of-the-table match, with Harry Kane cancelling out the early deficit with a penalty after half an hour. The England captain thus became the first player to score 100 goals away from home in the Premier League. Still, it was not enough for a point, as Arsenal can take a deserved 3:1 home victory after two goals in the second period.

You don’t just shake a derby defeat out of your clothes, especially as Antonio Conte had his best possible formation on the pitch. Ben Davies, Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura are all injured. It is conceivable that Tuesday’s match in Frankfurt will come too soon. In general, however, the Italian coach is not a fan of rotation and therefore the English are likely to start with almost the same formation as on Saturday.

Predicted line-up of Tottenham:
Lloris – Dier, Lenglet, Romero – Höjbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic, Emerson Royal – Richarlison, Son – Kane – Coach: Conte

Last matches played by Tottenham:

01/10/2022 – Arsenal FC 3 – 1 Tottenham

17/09/2022  Tottenham 6 – 2 Leicester

08/09/2022 – Tottenham 2 – 0 Marseille

Frankfurt – Tottenham Direct comparison / H2H record

There were times in European club football when the European Cup Winners’ Cup was played. In the 1981/82 season, Eintracht Frankfurt and Tottenham Hotspurs played in this competition and met in the quarter-finals. To date, these were the only two duels between the two opponents who will face each other again after more than 40 years.

The first leg in London was won 2-0 by Spurs, while Eintracht led 2-0 in the second leg after goals from Ronny Borchers and Bum-Kun Cha, but Glenn Hoddle scored the all-important equaliser that secured England’s place in the semi-finals. There they were defeated by FC Barcelona. From today’s perspective, there were plenty of legends on the pitch for both Eintracht and Spurs.

Frankfurt – Tottenham Tip

Frankfurt and Tottenham have one win and one defeat each after two matchdays in the Champions League. Tuesday’s match could be a landmark game in determining who advances to the round of 16 and who may continue in the Europa League after the World Cup. Eintracht are really on a roll with three wins from their last three games and will again approach this home game as an international football holiday.

Overall, Spurs have also made a good start to the season, but have lost their last three away games in the top flight, including in Munich and in Leipzig. Germany does not seem to be the best place for the English.

But we still think it will be an attractive game. We can imagine that some goals will be scored because both teams have great attacking talents. It is also possible that Harry Kane will score again. In the end, however, we decided to play the betting odds on goals from both teams in the match between Frankfurt and Tottenham.
