Will the SGE attack the top four before the World Cup break?

Eintracht Frankfurt are certainly one of the teams of the moment. In the last English week, the SGE made history when a 2-1 away win at Sporting Lisbon punched their ticket to the Champions League last 16?

The Eagles also recorded their seventh Bundesliga win in the last ten matchdays with a 2-1 victory in Augsburg. No team has won more often in this period.

Now TSG Hoffenheim, a team with poor form, comes to the Main metropolis, having won only one of their last seven league games (three draws, three defeats) and also being winless in Frankfurt for six away games (also three draws, three defeats). Accordingly, a lot of value is provided by betting on a home win for the SGE against Hoffenheim.

While the Sinsheim side travel with the best away defence in the Bundesliga and have not lost any of their last three Bundesliga away games (one win, two draws). Nevertheless, only FC Schalke (zero) have picked up fewer points than TSG Hoffenheim (six) in the last seven matchdays.

Logically, however, the Hessians’ form outweighs their opponents’, which is why we are predicting a home win for the Eagles in Frankfurt against Hoffenheim.

Frankfurt – statistics & current form

Eintracht Frankfurt only finished eleventh in the final table in the 2021/22 season despite a strong first half. However, the Hessians subordinated their high-flying performance in the UEFA Europa League, in which they even won the overall title, to their performance in the Bundesliga.

In the new season, on the other hand, the Eagles have managed an astonishing balancing act between strong performances at national level and more magical nights in Europe. Because of a great final spurt with two wins to close out the season, the SGE qualified for the Champions League round of 16, where they will face SSC Napoli.

Won seven of last ten league games

In the Bundesliga, the Hessians initially picked up only two of a possible nine points from their first three games. However, the knot then burst in a hard-fought 4:3 away win in Bremen. Since then, the SGE has won seven out of ten league games (three defeats).

Both the number of wins and the 21 out of 30 possible points in this period are not topped by any other team in the Beletage of German football. The total of 23 points is also the best start to a season in four years for the team from the banking city.

Unbeaten in six Bundesliga home games against Hoffenheim

There was only one point out of a possible six against TSG last season. Nevertheless, the odds on Frankfurt against Hoffenheim are swinging in the direction of the Hessians, who are now unbeaten at home against the Kraichgau outfit for six Bundesliga home games (three wins, three draws).

The 2014 World Cup winning goal scorer has featured in 21 of 22 competitive matches for the Adler and has been involved in five goals (two goals, three assists). The 30-year-old also has seven goals in twelve appearances against Hoffenheim.

Hoffenheim – Statistics & current form

For 15 years, TSG Hoffenheim has been firmly established in the Bundesliga and has been allowed to represent the Beletage of German football once in the Champions League and twice in the Europa League. However, it was not until their third attempt that the Sinsheim team survived an international group stage in the 2020/21 season.

Since then, the team from Kraichgau has been waiting to compete in a European competition again. After only finishing ninth in the final table last season under Sebastian Hoeneß, Zurich champions coach André Breitenreiter is now expected to launch an attack on Europe.

The second fewest points from the last seven league games

At times it looked quite good for the Blue and Whites. However, due to a new phase of weakness, Hoffenheim has now slipped through to ninth place. The Sinsheim side has only won one of its last seven league games (three draws, three defeats).

The only victory came in a clash with bottom team Schalke, who have lost all of their last seven league games and are the only Bundesliga team to have collected fewer points in this period (zero) than TSG (six). The Kraichgau eleven’s form is correspondingly weak.

The best away defence in the Bundesliga

Nevertheless, betting on Frankfurt against Hoffenheim is not a foregone conclusion, as the Baden-Württemberger bring momentum with them, at least away from home. TSG have recently gone unbeaten in three consecutive Bundesliga away games (one win, two draws) and have the best away defence in the league, conceding just six goals from six away games.

However, the absence of Grischa Prömel (ankle fracture) could have a potentially serious impact. The 27-year-old has not yet missed a league match and is the player who has covered the most distance in the Bundesliga so far (148.1km). The gap left by the midfield engine is correspondingly large.

Predicted line-up of Hoffenheim:
Baumann – Angelino – Nsoki – Vogt – Kabak – Skov – Stiller – Baumgartner – Geiger – Kramaric – Rutter

Frankfurt – Hoffenheim Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 9 – 8 – 9

There have been a total of 26 meetings between the two teams so far and the direct comparison is even with nine victories each. Recently, however, the match has been predominantly in the hands of the SGE, who have won six of the last eight encounters, but remained winless against Hoffenheim last season (one draw, one defeat).

Frankfurt – Hoffenheim Tip

Although the aspect that TSG has the best away defence in the Bundesliga should not be dismissed too lightly, our prediction for Frankfurt against Hoffenheim goes in the direction of the Hessians. The SGE has been too strong in recent weeks, winning seven of the last ten league games. The visitors from Kraichgau, meanwhile, have picked up just six points from a possible 21 in their last seven games.

The balance is also in favour of the Adler, who are unbeaten in six Bundesliga home games against the Sinsheimers (three wins, three draws) and have recently scored twice in five games in a row against TSG.
