Can FC Zurich upset PSV?

Teams from Switzerland don’t always have an easy time making a splash in Europe. FC Zurich will now be hoping for a win in their match against PSV from Eindhoven, but it won’t be easy by any means.

In the run-up to the match between FC Zurich and PSV Eindhoven, the odds indicate a relatively clear favourite role for the guests from the Netherlands. On a purely individual level, the visitors are also clearly better equipped.

However, away games in the European Cup always offer certain pitfalls. The Swiss want to play a good game at home and satisfy the fans. Whether they can do that will be seen on Thursday, kick-off is at 18:45.

FC Zurich – Statistics & current form

FC Zurich have experienced positive and negative phases in recent years. Currently, coach Genesio Colatrella’s team is not at all what they had hoped for before the season. The squad, which is still very young in some positions, does not seem to be fully balanced and this is also evident on the field. At the weekend, there was a 1-1 draw with Grasshoppers in the derby, which at least managed to bring some peace.

Otherwise, the performances and also the results do not meet the standards. There are already one or two well-known players in the squad, for example Ivan Santini in attack or Blerim Dzemaili in midfield. Ultimately, however, a structure is needed in which precisely these players can function. So far, that does not look like the case.

In the Europa League, FC Zurich have lost both games so far, against Arsenal as well as against Bodø/Glimt with a 1:2. In the domestic league, the team is still completely waiting for a win after nine games and without the qualification phase for the Europa League, there would not have been one win in the entire new season.

FC Zurich are in the middle of a crisis

The hosts have failed to win seven games in a row, losing six of them. The statistics read devastating. After all, only a few defeats in this period were extremely clear, but such a record still scratches at the self-confidence. But of course, the Europa League can still be a kind of distraction and at least in the game against Arsenal, the Swiss showed good approaches.

So the lack of form is well known. The offensive is causing problems in many games; in the Swiss league, for example, FC Zurich only managed seven goals. On the other hand, they conceded 20 goals, which is too many. There are no great hopes for an improvement at the moment, despite the draw at the weekend.

Due to the negative series of the Swiss and the good quality of the visitors, our prediction before the match FC Zurich vs PSV Eindhoven is that the visitors will win the match.

PSV Eindhoven – Statistics & current form

In the summer, PSV Eindhoven had to cope with the departure of coach Roger Schmidt. The German coach was an important part of the team in recent years. He was replaced by Ruud van Nistelrooy, a striker legend in the Netherlands. He got off to a decent start with his team until the total breakdown at the weekend. His team lost 3-0 at SC Cambuur.

This game has to be dealt with quickly. The quality in the squad, which like many squads in the Eredivisie is mainly filled with young players, is not a problem and should be enough to reach the knockout rounds in the Europa League, despite Arsenal in the group. Speaking of Arsenal, since the game against the Gunners was cancelled, the Dutch have only played Bodø/Glimt in the group so far, here they drew.

This also means that PSV are already under a bit of pressure. A slip-up in Zurich could put a damper on their own ambitions. After only two defeats in the last seven games, the tendency speaks for itself. But: These defeats both came away from home.

PSV Eindhoven: Things are going well offensively

PSV Eindhoven dropped to third place in the Eredivisie, but have the best offensive line in the league. The team has scored 28 goals in eight games, and in general the visitors have been able to score 39 goals in compulsory matches. This value is very respectable. However, 13 goals in the league in eight games also reveal the problems with balance that occur every now and then.

The visitors, who have a strong game, will also try an offensive approach in Switzerland. That is part of the team’s nature. It would therefore not be surprising if things got going early in front of the two goals. Therefore, before the match FC Zurich vs. PSV Eindhoven, our value tip is that the visitors will not lose and that more than 2.5 goals will be scored. Bookmaker ADMIRALBET offers 1.9 odds.

FC Zurich – PSV Eindhoven Tip

FC Zurich have quality in their squad, but they are not able to bring it on the pitch. Some performances this season have left you speechless, others have been solid but not crowned with a good result.

Because the visitors are the better team in many facets, our tip before the match FC Zurich vs PSV Eindhoven is that the visitors will also win this match.
