Is Everton’s slump continuing?

Everton play their second home game in the Premier League within a few days. This time Arsenal are the guests on the Mersey and the Gunners last conceded a defeat when they visited Manchester to face the Red Devils last Thursday night. The home side, for their part, recently played a derby against Liverpool and suffered a 4-1 defeat.

They haven’t won in eight rounds of matches and last week’s match against their arch-rivals from their own city brought no prospect of improvement against the backdrop of an emphatic defeat.

For the match at Goodison Park between Everton and Arsenal, the tip is aiming for an away win.

Everton – Statistics & current form

Blues coach Rafael Benitez took up his job with the Toffees in the summer and for the Spaniard it is already the 14th stop in his soon to be 20-year career as a coach. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult.

After 16 competitive games, the 61-year-old has a win ratio of just 31.3 per cent (5-4-7) – the third worst record for the two-time UEFA Manager of the Year in all of his coaching jobs. Only at the start of his coaching career in the mid-1990s with Valladolid and Osasuna did he fare worse.

Goodison Park is shot to demolition

The Toffees have also been waiting for their next treble for four home games now. The home games can be taken as synonyms for the general downward trend at Everton, as mentioned above. Three of the last four matches at home to Goodison Park have been lost and a whopping ten goals have been conceded in this flashback.

In addition to the current shaky defence, the attack is no less of a concern. With top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin out through injury, the forward play is obviously weakened. Only two goals have been scored in the past five games.

Richarlison with room for improvement

It is clear that Richarlison is not yet back to his full potential in attack after his injury lay-off. The Brazilian has scored just once in five league games for last season’s tenth-placed side since his return.

In view of this, the odds on a win for the visitors without conceding a goal in Everton’s match against Arsenal are also interesting.

The additional value tip is supported by the predominant defensive strength of the visitors: Apart from the defeat against Liverpool on the third last matchday and the most recent defeat at Old Trafford, they have exclusively collected clean sheets in the last six competitive matches in the Premier League and EFL Cup.

Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford – Keane – Digne – Godfrey – Coleman – Towsend – Doucoure – Gray – Allan – Richarlison – Rondon

Arsenal – Statistics & current form

Arsenal have lost just two of their last 14 competitive games across competitions (10-2-2). The weak start to the season with three defeats has been made up for and the Londoners are increasingly orienting themselves towards the top places.

They currently occupy fifth place and the upswing can be seen in both defence and offence. In a review of the past ten rounds of matches, only four teams have conceded fewer goals than last season’s eighth-placed team.

At the same time, the attack has only failed to strike at least once in two games in this flashback.

Are the Londoners already ahead at the break?

In view of this positive development at the 13-time British champions and the desolate state of the home side, the odds on an away win for coach Mikel Arteta’s team, including a lead at the break, are also interesting in the showdown between Everton and Arsenal.

This is supported by the fact that the only two away victories of the “Cannoniers” were both accompanied by an interval lead and that the Londoners score the majority of their 17 goals this season in the first period anyway (10).

Predicted Arsenal line-up:
Ramsdale – White – Gabriel – Tavares – Tomiyasu – Partey – Lokonga – Smith Rowe – Lacazette – Odegaard – Aubameyang

Everton – Arsenal Direct Comparison / H2H Record

The last direct clash between the Red-Whites and Blues took place last April. On that occasion, the 1985 European Cup Winners’ Cup winners claimed a 1-0 away win in London courtesy of an own goal from German keeper Bernd Leno, who has been demoted to Arsenal’s No 2 this season.

Liverpool also won the previous home match 2-1 against the record
FA Cup winners. Arsenal’s last away win on the Mersey again dates back to 2017, since when the Red and Whites have conceded two and recorded a goalless draw.

For the next edition of Everton vs Arsenal, the odds are nevertheless leaning slightly towards a success for Arteta’s eleven.

Everton – Arsenal Tip

The nine-time English champions, last 34 years ago, are badly off track. The last win dates back to the end of September, followed by six defeats and two draws.

Arsenal, a predominantly in-form opponent, now also travels to the club, having lost two of their past three league games, but their opposition has been much tougher in one-loss games with Liverpool and Manchester United compared to their upcoming opponents.

For the match between Everton and Arsenal, the forecast therefore includes an away win. The home side currently have an offensive problem due to the absence of their top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

In addition, the clear loss of the derby against Liverpool last Wednesday night has further dented the Toffees’ already battered self-confidence. Bwin offers betting odds of 2.20 for the clash between Everton and Arsenal
