Will the Black & Yellows flip the switch again at home?

Borussia Dortmund remained winless in three consecutive league games before the international break (one draw, two defeats) and slipped to fifth place in the table. The Black & Yellows are now ten points behind leaders Leverkusen. It would therefore be all the more important for BVB to reverse the trend in the clash between the two Borussias. However, betting on a win for the Westphalians against Gladbach is definitely associated with risks

BVB have won 16 of their last 17 Bundesliga home games against the colts and have also won 15 of their last 18 competitive matches against the team from the Lower Rhine (three defeats). However, Gladbach have been in much better form of late, which is why the prediction of a home win for Dortmund against Gladbach is definitely not a foregone conclusion.

After a very shaky start to the season, Gladbach have not lost any of their last four competitive matches (three wins, one draw) and have even celebrated one more win than in their first nine competitive matches under new coach Gerardo Seoane (just two). However, the Foals’ weakness on the road remains a problem, as they won just two of their 15 Bundesliga away games in the 2023 calendar year, conceding 37 goals in the process. Only FC Augsburg conceded more away goals in the same period (39).

In view of a brilliant Alassane Pléa, who has scored in each of the last three league games, the Foals’ away goal is not unrealistic either.

Dortmund – statistics & current form

After Borussia Dortmund dramatically lost out on the championship in front of their home crowd at the end of the 2022-23 season despite being in the best possible starting position, BVB had really set their sights high for the new season.

Initially, the Westphalians were right at the top from the start. However, the Black & Yellows then picked up just one of nine possible points from their last three league games before the international break, slipped to fifth place and are currently already ten points behind leaders Leverkusen

Won four of the six Bundesliga home games in 2023/24

It is therefore important for the reigning runners-up not to bury their heads in the sand, but to start a new series. Until the recent 4-0 home defeat against Bayern, things were going pretty well, at least at home. The Black & Yellows picked up 13 out of a possible 15 points from their other four home games in the 2023/24 season.

BVB also performed very well internationally. In Group of Death F with PSG, Milan and Newcastle, the Westphalians are somewhat surprisingly top of the table after four of six matchdays with seven points out of a possible twelve. In short, the interim results are by no means completely sobering

16 of the last 17 Bundesliga home matches won against Gladbach

Nevertheless, it would be important for the course of the coming weeks that the bet on the next home win for Edin Terzic’s team against Gladbach pans out. After all, BVB have recently had a very easy time against the team from the Lower Rhine at home. They have won 16 of their last 17 Bundesliga home matches against the foals.

Another positive aspect is that Niclas Füllkrug seems to have overcome his teething troubles. The Germany international has scored in the last two competitive games in a row and could also be a focal point against Gladbach, against whom he was involved in four goals (two goals, two assists) in the 2022/23 season in Werder Bremen kit.

Predicted Dortmund line-up:

Gladbach – Statistics & current form

Borussia Mönchengladbach have had a complicated few years, with one upheaval after another. This summer, there were once again numerous notable departures, which meant that the squad not only had a new coach, but also a new face.

Under Gerardo Seoane, the start of the season was initially a disaster. The team from the Lower Rhine only collected six out of a possible 24 points in the first eight match days. In the 3-1 defeat to arch-rivals Cologne on matchday 8, the mood was even at freezing point at times

Seven points out of a possible nine from the last three league games

But then the Foals managed to reverse the trend with two wins in the Bundesliga and cup against newly promoted Heidenheim. This was followed by a point at Europa League participants Freiburg (3:3), before the home game against Wolfsburg was won 4:0 before the international break.

As a result, the Foals have won three of their last four competitive matches (one draw). Not only have they won more games in this period (three) than in the first nine competitive games under Seoane (just two), but they have also picked up more points in the last three matchdays (seven) than in the first eight league games (six).

The second most goals conceded away from home in the Bundesliga in 2023

The curve is thus visibly pointing upwards on the Lower Rhine, although this has not yet had any impact on the odds offered by betting providers. The odds of all bookmakers for Dortmund v Gladbach are very clearly in favor of the foals, who have lost 15 of their last 18 competitive matches against BVB (three wins).

In addition, Gladbach continue to be extremely susceptible to conceding goals, especially away from home. In the 15 Bundesliga away games in the 2023 calendar year, of which only two were won, they conceded a staggering 37 goals. Only FC Augsburg have conceded more goals away from home this year (39).

Predicted Gladbach line-up:

Dortmund – Gladbach Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 58 – 35 – 37

The duel between the two great Borussias has already taken place 130 times and BVB leads the head-to-head comparison with 58 wins. Although the Black & Yellows have lost three of their last four games in Mönchengladbach (one win), they have won 16 of their last 17 Bundesliga home games against the Foals (one defeat) – including the last home game to date on 13 May 2023, which they won 5-2.

Dortmund – Gladbach tip

For our taste, the betting odds on Dortmund vs Gladbach are a little too clearly in favor of the Black & Yellows, who have recently been winless in three Bundesliga games in a row (one draw, two defeats) and have thus lost some ground. In contrast, the Foals have shown a positive trend with three wins from their last four competitive matches (one draw). Betting on the Westphalians in the three-way system is probably far too risky given the low prices

A coherent alternative for Dortmund v Gladbach is to predict goals on both sides. On the one hand, only Augsburg conceded more away goals in the Bundesliga in 2023 (39) than the Foals (37). And on the other hand, the team from the Lower Rhine, led by the reinvigorated Alassane Pléa, also proved to be much more accurate themselves
