Schützenfest in Dortmund?

Greuther Fürth are already considered almost certain to be relegated before Christmas. However, the Franconians do not yet see it as they are already on a farewell tour of the Bundesliga stadiums. But we can imagine that Wednesday will be their last appearance in a league game at Borussia Dortmund for the time being.

After 15 games, Fürth have just four points to their name. Stefan Leitl’s team has already broken numerous negative records this season. The gap to the relegation place is twelve points. The outlook is clear. It was clear that it would be difficult, but the Franconians would like to have a few more points on their account.

That also applies to Borussia Dortmund, although BVB is in second place and is actually on course, if it weren’t for the recent loss of points. Until a fortnight ago, it was a neck-and-neck race with Bayern, but now the black-and-yellows are six points behind. Nevertheless, in the duel between Dortmund and Greuther Fürth, the prediction must clearly go to a home victory.

Generally, BVB rarely has problems winning against the last team in the table. Only one of the last 14 games against the bottom team was lost, when they were defeated by Darmstadt in 2017.

Dortmund – Statistics & current form

Last season, the assumption of a mentality problem was already haunting Dortmund. Apparently, Marco Rose’s team is not able to exploit Bayern’s weaknesses this season either. However, everything is still possible. Two wins before the winter break and you can at least relax in preparation for the second half of the season

Home strong Borussia

BVB is doing very well at home. With 21 points in their own arena, Borussia Dortmund, together with FC Bayern, are the best home team. However, the most recent defeat was a 3-2 home loss to Bayern, which ended a streak of eleven home victories in a row. Nevertheless, it remains the case that we only check odds between Dortmund and Greuther Fürth that have something to do with a home win.

The Revierderby was on the agenda last weekend, but not at Schalke, but in Bochum. VfL took a 1:0 lead shortly before the break. Dortmund ran on and missed numerous chances. It was not until the 85th minute that Julian Brandt scored the final goal to make it 1-1. This means that Dortmund have only picked up one point from their last two games in the Bundesliga.

In terms of personnel, however, things are looking very good for BVB at the moment. Manuel Akanji, Mateu Morey, Youssoufa Moukoko, Giovanni Reyna and Marcel Schmelzer are all injured. Otherwise, all players should be available. However, there is still a question mark over the fitness of Raphael Guerreiro and Donyell Malen.

Predicted line-up of Dortmund:
Kobel – Meunier, Hummels, Zagadou, Schulz – Dahoud, Brandt, Bellingham – Hazard, Haaland, Reus – Coach: Rose

Greuther Fürth – Statistics & current form

Finally it’s done. In the 24th home match in the Bundesliga, the Spielvereinigung managed the first victory at home in the Ronhof. Of course, the joy is great, but the chances of staying in the league have only increased minimally, because the competition is also scoring regularly. Therefore, all forces must be bundled to continuously score points if the miracle is still to be achieved.

The first win is here

But it sounds very unlikely that they will now follow up directly in Dortmund. We have already mentioned BVB’s home strength. In addition, the cloverleaf has lost all eight away games this season and has a goal difference of 6:31. Therefore, the prediction between Dortmund and Greuther Fürth should be a home victory with many goals.

The time had come last weekend. On matchday 15, the Spielvereinigung finally celebrated their first win of the season after twelve defeats in a row. But the Franconians were also in league with luck, because Union Berlin was the better team, but could not put the ball into Sascha Burchert’s goal. Havard Nielsen’s goal was enough for a 1-0 victory.

Perhaps Stefan Leitl is now applying the old football wisdom “never change a winning team”. But it is also possible that the Fürth team will be a little more defensive than they were against Union. The injured Marius Funk, Gideon Jung, Robin Kehr, Jessic Ngankam and Nick Viergever will definitely be absent.

Predicted line-up of Greuther Fürth:
Burchert – Meyerhöfer, Griesbeck, Bauer, Willems – Christiansen, Seguin, Tillman – Hrgota, Abiama, Nielsen – Coach: Leitl

Last matches played by Greuther Fürth:

1st Bundesliga
12/12 2021 – Greuther Fürth 1 – 0 Union Berlin

12/04 2021 – Bayer Leverkusen 7 – 1 Greuther Fürth

11/27 2021 – Greuther Fürth 3 – 6 Hoffenheim

11/20 2021 – Borussia Mönchengladbach 4 – 0 Greuther Fürth

11/07 2021 – Greuther Fürth 1 – 2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Dortmund – Greuther Fürth Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

Borussia Dortmund and Greuther Fürth have crossed paths a total of eight times so far. There have been two matches in the Bundesliga and six in the DFB Cup. The direct comparison speaks clearly in favour of BVB with 6:1 victories. Only once did the two clubs part with a draw, whereby there were even a total of three overtimes in the cup, which are not officially counted as draws.

The last encounter was at Fürther Ronhof in August 2018. In the first cup round, the second-tier cloverleaf took the lead through Sebastian Ernst. It was not until the 90th minute that Axel Witsel equalised. Again in the last minute, this time in extra time, Marco Reus scored to give BVB a fortunate 2-1 victory.

Dortmund – Greuther Fürth Tip

A broad chest certainly looks different, but at least the Spielvereinigung travels to Dortmund with a win from the last game in their luggage. Actually, the match at Signal-Iduna-Park is a bonus game, but given the current situation in the standings, the Franconians basically have to score in every game and do so three times. With eight defeats in eight away games, however, the chances are not good.

BVB is not only a top team in the Bundesliga, but also enormously strong at home.

We can imagine that there will be a clear home win. Should Erling Haaland be in goal-scoring mood, it could be another away debacle for the cloverleaf. A bet on a handicap win can fit, as well as on many goals. However, we have decided to play the betting odds on a BVB win to nil between Dortmund and Greuther Fürth.
