Can the Pirates find some breathing space in the basement duel?

Monday evening sees a basement clash between two relegation-threatened sides as Cadiz, currently 18th in the table, host Elche, currently bottom of the table.

There are still a whopping eleven points between the two teams as Elche remain winless in league action. Accordingly, it is unlikely that the betting on the visitors to win a point in Cadiz against Elche will work out.

However, the Andalusians’ record against Elche is anything but good. Against the Franjiverdes, Cadiz have only won one of their last seven competitive matches (three draws, three defeats). Another factor to take into account when predicting Cadiz against Elche is that they are by far the two weakest defensive teams in Spain. Cadiz have only scored eleven goals in 16 league games. Elche even only have ten goals.

Consequently, there should not be too many goals in the Nuevo Mirandilla, which is why the under-bet is a good option. In view of the fact that the Andalusians have recently gone undefeated in five consecutive home games (one win, four draws) and have built up something like momentum despite their relegation place, tip 1 seems to us to promise the better chances of winning.

Cadiz – Statistics & current form

Cadiz Club de Fútbol has been in existence since 1910, but the Andalusians have not yet had any major successes since then. However, just being part of La Liga is a fundamentally big deal for the Pirates.

In the years following their last relegation from La Liga in the summer of 2006, the southern Spaniards spent a total of seven seasons in the third division. As runners-up in La Liga 2, Cadiz returned to the top flight of Spanish football for the 2020/21 season.

Unbeaten in five home league games

After two successful years, however, the Andalusians now have to worry about staying in the league again.

The reason for this is a meagre haul of just 15 points from 16 completed league games. Just one point at home against Elche, however, would be enough to climb above the top of the league.

The Pirates have recently come back from the World Cup break in very good form. The southern Spanish side picked up four points out of a possible six in the games against Almeria (1-1) and Valencia (1-0), and now they need to build on that. In total, Cadiz are unbeaten in five home games in La Liga (one win, four draws).

The second weakest offense in La Liga

Overall, the form curve is pointing upwards for Sergio’s side, who are now favourites going into this home game. In Cadiz v Elche, the betting odds are in favour of the Pirates, who already won their last home match against the Franjiverdes 3-0 (on 7 May 2022).

Only the offensive has to improve considerably. The Andalusians scored just eleven goals in the first 16 match days. However, considering that the La Liga shooting gallery (Elche have already conceded 34 goals) is coming to the Nuevo Mirandilla, there is a lot to be said for a home win for the southern Spanish side.

Predicted line-up of Cadiz:
Ledesma – Espino – Fali – Hernández – Carcelén – Alcaraz – Emeterio – Ocampo – Fernández – Sobrino – Lozano

Elche – Statistics & current form

Elche Club de Fútbol is based on the east coast of Spain in the province of Alicante of the Valencian Community. The football club, which was founded in 1923, has not yet won any relevant titles and just spent another season in the third division in the 2017/18 season.

Recently, however, things have been going well for the Franjiverdes. In the summer of 2020, they returned to La Liga via the playoffs. After narrowly staying in 17th place in their first first league season since 2014/15, they even finished a respectable 13th in the final table of last season.

Already eleven points behind the saving shore

At the moment, however, the signs are clearly pointing to a farewell from La Liga for the East Spaniards. Even a change of coach has not been able to change the trend. Elche CF are the only one of the 20 teams in Spain’s top division without a win in the league (four draws, twelve defeats).

With a paltry four points in their account, the Franjiverdes not only hold the red lantern in La Liga, but are also already eleven points behind the save bank. So it will take a long run to somehow pull the cart out of the mud in the second half of the season.

The league’s tamest offense and leakiest defense

But because the performance data of the East Spaniards is disastrous in almost all respects, there is very little to be said for betting on a point win for Pablo Machín’s team in Cadiz against Elche, who have returned from the World Cup break with two defeats and 0:3 goals in La Liga.

Elche not only collected the fewest points in league play, but also scored the fewest goals (only ten) and conceded the most by far (34 already).

Predicted line-up of Elche:
Badía – González – Verdú – Palacios – Clerc – Gumbau – Mascarell – Morente – Milla – Martí – Boyé

Cadiz – Elche Direct comparison / H2H-balance

Head to head: 14 – 14 – 8

There have been a total of 36 meetings between the two teams so far and with 14 wins Cadiz also lead the head to head comparison. However, the Andalusians have only won once in their last seven meetings with Elche (three draws, three defeats) – a 3-0 home victory in their last meeting to date on 7 May 2022.

Cadiz – Elche Tip

For Cadiz against Elche, the prediction clearly goes in the direction of the Andalusians, who are unbeaten in five home La Liga games (one win, four draws) and have bounced back from the World Cup break with four points out of a possible six. This contrasts with the Franjiverdes, who are still winless after 16 league games (four draws, 12 defeats) and have both the weakest attack (ten goals) and worst defence (34 goals conceded) in La Liga.

Accordingly, the bet on a home win for the Andalusians is a good one, as the three points in the basement duel would put them above the line and further fuel their hopes of staying in the league.
