Elventh win in a row for Burnley?

Not only international football is on the agenda this week, but also in the toughest second division the ball is rolling. After all, 46 regular match days have to be played, so there is no time to take a breather.

The 32nd matchday will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. The absolute top match will take place at Turf Moor. In the relegation duel between Burnley and Watford, the bet on the home win is the game outcome with the lowest betting odds.

The Clarets have acclimatised well to the much tougher pace in the Championship and can already start planning for their Premier League return. Vincent Kompany’s side are dominating the league at will and are already 17 points clear of the first non-fixed promotion spot.

The visitors from Greater London are in one of the four play-off places, but have suffered some setbacks recently. The momentum clearly underlines the forecast for Burnley against Watford on the favoured home side.

Burnley have won all of their last ten league games, while the Hornets from Watford have recently failed to win four in a row. Will both series continue? Or can Sir Elton John’s favourite club surprise at Turf Moor? The match kicks off at 9pm on Tuesday.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

During Burnley’s time in the Premier League, the Clarets have not necessarily impressed with their modern, passing and possession-oriented style. The typical English kick-and-rush was still used in the 21st century and success proved the underdogs right for a long time. In this respect, it was not necessarily surprising that after relegation, the adjustment to the far more rustic style of play one tier further down would quickly succeed.

However, it is fair to say that Burnley in the 2022/23 season under Vincent Kompany cannot be compared to the team of recent years. The age average has been drastically lowered, many veterans have left the club and the new arrivals provide modern, refreshing and attractive attacking football.

Ten wins in a row

With 46 league fixtures, there are almost exclusively English weeks and consistency is a big problem for many teams. Burnley are unlikely to break Reading FC’s points record from the 2005/06 season this year, but getting promotion wrapped up early should not be a problem. They are currently 17 points and 21 goals ahead of the third-placed team.

In recent weeks, Kompany’s eleven has marched through the Championship with ease and has now celebrated ten league victories in a row. Only two games in the Championship have been lost so far. Apart from the first leg against Watford on Matchday 3, the away game against Sheffield United was lost (2:5). The Kompany eleven is still unbeaten at home and has celebrated no less than twelve home victories in 16 games. The clear favourite role in favour of the league leader is the logical consequence. In addition, the leaders can almost draw from a full complement of players.

Watford – Statistics & current form

Due to Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, Watford Football Club have gained attention in the Austrian media in recent years. After an interim demotion, the ÖFB team player is once again the number one and hopes to achieve promotion to the Premier League for the second time with the Hornets.

Although the regular season is still a few weeks away, direct promotion will no longer be an issue given the 15-point gap. Instead, it is now a matter of defending the top-six position. The pressure from the competition is clearly being felt.

Four league games without a win

Since the re-start after the World Cup break, Slaven Bilic’s team never really got going. In the meantime, the Hornets have already played ten league games since the restart, but have only managed to celebrate three victories. As a result, the competition for direct promotion is closing in. Their own lead over seventh place shrank weekend after weekend. After Watford only managed a draw against Blackburn Rovers for the tenth time this season last weekend, the Hornets are now only one point ahead of seventh place. In addition, Watford have already played one more game than AFC Sunderland, for example.

In addition, Watford remained without a full win for the fourth time in a row and have lagged massively behind their own expectations and demands in recent weeks. Definitely one reason for this can be found in the list of absentees below. Slaven Bilic is forced to improvise and with the dense fixture list, the multitude of absentees (eight absentees are listed) cannot be compensated for. Hopes rest on the return of top talent Joao Pedro, who has made two recent substitute appearances after overcoming an ankle injury.

Watford certainly have the quality to achieve direct promotion. However, given the current circumstances, there is no value to be discovered between Burnley and Watford at the odds on the visitors.

Last games played by Watford:

Championship
11/02/2023 – Watford 1 – 1 Blackburn

04/02/2023 – Reading 2 – 2 Watford

28/01/2023 – Middlesboro 2 – 0 Watford

21/01/2023 – Watford 1 – 1 Rotherham

14/01/2023 – Watford 2 – 0 Blackpool

Burnley – Watford Direct comparison / H2H record

In the English top flight, Burnley have a clearly positive record against the Hornets (six wins in ten games). One tier below, the direct comparison between Burnley and Watford also favours betting on the home side, who have won 13 of their 31 games (ten defeats).

However, the Kompany eleven is warned, as the first leg on matchday three at Vicarage Road was one of only two defeats this season. A Tom Cleverley goal in minute 45+2 clinched the tie in favour of the Hornets.

Burnley – Watford Tip

The Clarets are in a league of their own this season, dominating the English Championship at will. Promotion is only a matter of time as Kompany’s side go from strength to strength. Between Burnley and Watford, the prediction on the home side’s success is definitely recommended. Burnley’s eleventh win in a row seems very likely.

Because of the dominant performances in recent weeks, however, not only a bet on the home win is recommended, but very interesting seem to be the odds for the tip HT/FT 1/1 between Burnley and Watford.

Burnley will try to exploit the uncertainty of the home side and set the course for victory early on. Given the Clarets’ current top form, this is an undertaking that seems very promising. Five units is our recommended stake for this bet
