Crisis summit at Turf Moor!

Burnley host Watford for the only game in the Premier League this weekend. The home side are playing a league game on their own turf for the first time in no less than 55 days and have used the last two weeks to make a number of changes to the squad.

Among others, Wout Weghorst was brought in from VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. The Dutchman is expected to help the hosts in their fight against relegation.

The red wine team is currently in last place, but the visitors are the second-last team in the table. In addition, the Hornets already have two games more, which is why the table is only of limited significance at the moment due to the many match cancellations in the recent past.

The match will also be a debut for the visitors’ coach, as Roy Hodgson was only appointed as the new manager a few days ago.

In the basement clash at Turf Moor between Burnley and Watford, the tip is for a home win (DNB).

Burnley – Statistics & current form

The Clarets have already been waiting for eight league games for the next three points. In between, they also had to concede defeat in the FA Cup against the second division team from Huddersfield on their own ground. Furthermore, a home bonus cannot be identified: Only one of the seven home games ended with a win (1-4-2).

However, the performances in the past home games were slightly better than before, as none of the last four games in league play at home were lost (1-3-0).

In addition to the aforementioned newcomer Wout Weghorst, hopes are also pinned on Maxwel Cornet. After ten appearances, the striker has scored an impressive 60 per cent of their goals.

Will Cornet strike again?

Coach Sean Dyche can now rely on him again as the previous Lyon player’s call-up to the Africa Cup has now been ruled out. Due to a defeat against Egypt, he had to pull out of the tournament with his home country Ivory Coast.

Given his goalscoring prowess, the odds on his next goal celebrations in the Burnley-Watford clash are also interesting.

Overall, however, Burnley’s attack has plenty of room for improvement: In the past six league games, only two goals have been scored and only the promoted team from Norwich has scored fewer goals in the British top flight. With 16 goals after 18 league games, BFC are averaging less than one goal per game in the Premier League.

Predicted Burnley line-up:
Pope – Tarkowski – Mee – Roberts – Pieters – McNeil – Brownhill – Westwood – Lennon – Weghorst – Cornet

Watford – Statistics & current form

Like their opponents, the Hornets are not in good shape and have also been waiting for the next three points for eight matchdays.

However, their form may be assessed even worse, no less than seven of the last eight league games ended with a defeat, while the hosts ended at least more than half (5) with a draw.

While the visitors were initially able to gloss over their lack of success with a difficult fixture list featuring various top teams such as Chelsea or Manchester City, this has recently become much more difficult: even against teams in equally poor form such as the “Magpies” or Norwich, it was not enough for a victory.

Attack has almost completely stopped working at the moment

Another parallel to the upcoming opponent are the recent offensive problems: Only one goal was scored in the past three league games. Striker Emmanuel Dennis will now also be unable to play.

Without the Nigerian, who is suspended, the visitors’ attack is also severely weakened. With eight goals, the 24-year-old has the best record so far for the “Golden Boys”. The importance of the former 1. FC Köln player for Watford in the forward play can also be seen in his five assists.

Dennis has been directly or indirectly involved in more than half of the goals (23) scored by the players from Vicarage Road.

No goals for the visitors?

With this in mind, betting tips on a clean sheet for the home side in the clash between Burnley and Watford are equally appealing. The prediction is underpinned by the fact that Ismail Sarr, another key attacking player, is still missing through injury.

On the other hand, whether the newly signed Kalu from Bordeaux will immediately represent an update in attack is rather questionable. Furthermore, the statistics for the past three duels with Burnley do not show a single goal on the part of the Hornets!

Predicted Watford line-up:
Bachmann – Kabasele – Samir – Kamara – Sema – Kiko – Sissoko – Kayembe – Cucho – Cleverley – King

01/21 2022 – Watford 0 – 3 Norwich

Burnley – Watford Direct Comparison / H2H Record

The last direct duel took place in June last year. At that time Burnley won 1-0 at home. This was the Clarets’ third successive unbeaten run in this pairing (2-1-0).

Burnley – Watford Tip

Both teams have not won for eight matchdays, but the hosts’ form can still be considered slightly better. Unlike the visitors, the majority of the encounters in this flashback have at least not been lost.

For the match between Burnley and Watford, the prediction therefore includes a home win, although a draw is hedged by selecting a draw-no-bet. Another factor in favour of the prediction is that the Clarets have made further additions to their squad during the recent break.

With Wout Weghorst, a new striker was signed and with Maxwel Cornet, the best offensive player this season is available again. The latter attacker was previously absent from the squad due to the Africa Cup, but Cornet is now back at hand due to his home country’s elimination.

In addition, the personnel policy regarding the coaching issue at the visitors must be critically questioned. Roy Hodgson, who has been brought back from retirement, is the third coach on the Hornets’ sidelines this season after Claudio Ranieri and Xisco Munoz.

Confidence in the respective coach looks different in any case and it is doubtful whether this will help to stabilise the team. Admiralbet offers betting odds of 1.56 for the Burnley-Watford clash.
