Will Liverpool celebrate their next win?

Burnley have made a number of changes over the winter, including bringing in a new striker in Wout Weghorst. Nevertheless, the team is still in last place in the Premier League and urgently needs a sense of achievement in order to stay in the league.

Ahead of the Burnley vs Liverpool game, the betting odds show that the Clarets can’t get their hopes up too much in this game either, as Liverpool are clearly in the favourites’ role. However, the last game against Manchester United gives the hosts some encouragement.

But a lot will have to come together for Burnley to take something with them. But the hosts will definitely try. The game kicks off at 3pm on Sunday.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

14 points from 20 games means last place in the Premier League for Burnley FC. There are problems around every corner, for example in the offensive. Maxwel Cornet has scored six times so far, the second best scorer still at the club is Ben Mee, a defender who stands at two goals. But: On Tuesday, there was a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

In that game, newcomer Weghorst in particular showed how well he fits into the Premier League. His power and physicality were instrumental in Burnley getting the draw in the second half. The newcomer from Wolfsburg also set up the 1:1 directly. Of course, draws don’t help that much because the team needs wins to get out of the bottom of the table, but you always like to take a good result against a top team.

Moreover, Burnley have managed to draw four times in a row at home. Of course, the victory is still missing, but the trend of Sean Dyche’s team is positive. Nevertheless, with only one win from 23 league games, a sense of achievement is now urgently needed.

Burnley in relegation spot for ages

Burnley slipped into the relegation places on matchday four and the Clarets haven’t come down from that very spot since. That is frustrating, especially as their last Premier League win dates back to 30 October 2021, when they were beaten 3-1 by promoted Brentford. What’s more, Liverpool are an opponent Burnley are anything but happy to play. The hosts have lost six of their seven home games against the Reds in the Premier League.

At least the only win of the season came at home. Burnley also conceded only nine goals at home, and with 28 goals conceded in 20 games, the defence is not the biggest problem. 17 goals are much more of an improvement, only Norwich City (14) have less to offer here. Despite all this, Burnley have the best goal difference of all teams from 14th place in the league. That can be relevant in the final weeks of the season when the relegation battle is on.

All in all, there is not much to suggest that Burnley will be able to break the deadlock against Liverpool. Moreover, the visitors haven’t offered too much lately either. Therefore, our prediction before the Burnley vs. Liverpool match is that not both teams will score.

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

Liverpool’s starting position is much improved compared to Burnley. The Reds won 2-0 against Leicester during the week and are in second place in the Premier League. With one game behind, the Reds currently have nine points less on their account than Manchester City. Klopp’s team has little chance of winning the Premier League title, but they are not without a chance.

Liverpool is statistically one of the best teams in the league. They share the fewest defeats (2) with league leaders Manchester City, and the Reds also have the best offence in the entire league with 60 goals. Burnley have been a welcome opponent in the past, moreover Liverpool could now celebrate a few wins in a row against a bottom team in the Premier League.

The view in the table is basically only upwards. It is virtually impossible for Liverpool to drop out of the CL places, the gap is too wide for that; in addition, there is the consistency that Liverpool have shown over long stretches of the season.

Liverpool with a strong series

In Liverpool’s favour, apart from their individual class in this game, is their record against Burnley and especially their record in recent weeks. The Reds have won five games in a row and coach Jürgen Klopp’s team has not lost eight games in a row. In the EFL Cup, Liverpool are in the final, and in other competitions the Reds are still doing well.

Because the last few weeks have been very stable and Burnley are relatively harmless, especially offensively, our value tip before the Burnley vs Liverpool match is that the visitors will win by even more than a goal difference. On a normal to good day, such a result would be little surprise.

Burnley – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

The two teams have met 109 times in all competitions so far. Liverpool have won 49 matches, although Burnley also have 34 wins to their name so far. The direct comparison is anything but good for the Clarets, especially in the Premier League.

Burnley – Liverpool Tip

Burnley are currently in last place in the table and many elements are not encouraging the Clarets. Liverpool have always been a tough place for the hosts in recent years, plus Burnley have won just one of their last 23 matches

The hosts have some problems, especially in the offensive area. That should not be repeated against Liverpool, however, the guests are stable enough to perform confidently at the relegation candidate. Therefore, our tip before the match Burnley vs. Liverpool is that not both teams will score
