Who will accompany Bayern and Dortmund into the top flight?

After the international break, the 59th season of the Bundesliga is about to get underway. Seven matchdays before the end of the season, FC Bayern München leads the table by six points over Borussia Dortmund. The real excitement, however, is to be found in the fight for the international starting places as well as in the relegation battle.

In particular, almost anything is still possible in the fight for Europe. After a few setbacks, the lead of third-placed Bayer Leverkusen on fourth place shrank to three points. There, the teams from Leipzig, Freiburg and Hoffenheim, separated by only one point in total, are engaged in a gripping three-way battle for the fourth Champions League starting spot. With SCF hosting Bayern and RBL visiting Dortmund in the top match of the week on Saturday evening, TSG Hoffenheim could well be the laughing stock at home to Bochum.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart, Augsburg and Hertha BSC are the three teams in the bottom of the table with 26 points on the account, which are distributed between places 14 and 16 in this order only due to the goal difference. Arminia Bielefeld, in 17th place, are only one point behind with 25 points and could at least overtake the Swabians with a home win over VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. Accordingly, the nine matches for which there are betting odds and tips on this page in the Bundesliga on matchday 28 are exciting.

Union Berlin vs. Cologne – 01 April, 20:30

After a strong performance in the first half of the season, when all signs pointed to another year in Europe, 1. FC Union Berlin are currently sinking increasingly into mediocrity. The Köpenicker won only one of their last seven league games and thus slipped to ninth place. No other team has failed to score as often as the Eisernen (five times) in the second half of the season.

Now, of all times, the capital city hosts Cologne, who have lost only one of their last five league games (two wins, two draws) and won the Rhineland derby at Bayer Leverkusen, among others. The Effzeh have also kept a defensive zero in three of their last seven games, which is why betting tips on a not too high-scoring Friday evening match in the Bundesliga on matchday 28 are under a good star. We recommend betting on a team scoring a maximum of one goal.

Frankfurt vs. Fürth – 02 April, 15:30

Eintracht Frankfurt are currently finding their old strength again and have remained unbeaten in their last five competitive matches (three wins, two draws). Not only did the Hessians advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where they will face Barcelona at home next week. The Eagles also climbed back up to eighth place in the Bundesliga table.

The next home win against the bottom-placed team from Central Franconia would be correspondingly important for the SGE. Fürth have only picked up one of 49 possible points away from home and have already conceded 46 goals away from home. Therefore, betting on a Frankfurt home win on matchday 28 is practically a no-brainer in the Bundesliga. To get the most out of the odds in this context, we recommend placing the half-time final score bet.

Leverkusen vs. Hertha – 02 April, 15:30

In the first game under the management of Korkut’s successor Felix Magath, who curiously could not sit on the bench in person due to an infection, Hertha celebrated an important 3-0 home victory over Hoffenheim. After a negative streak of nine league games in a row without a win (two draws, seven defeats), the “Big City Club” thus returned to 16th place and is once again within sight of the safety net.

However, it would now be correspondingly important to follow up with a win in Leverkusen after the international break. The Rhinelanders recently failed in the Europa League and have won only one of their last five competitive matches. Added to this is a dry spell against Hertha, against whom none of the last five duels in league play have been won (two draws, three defeats). Predictions on the capital winning a point in the Bundesliga on matchday 28 are correspondingly interesting.

Freiburg vs. Bayern – 02 April, 15:30

SC Freiburg are currently playing their best Bundesliga season since 1994/95 and still have a very good chance of making it to the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history seven matchdays before the end of the season. A home win over FC Bayern, who have only won one of their last 37 Bundesliga games, would certainly help in this endeavour.

However, the Reds are by no means in bad shape. Admittedly, there have been some curious results from time to time in the 2021/22 season, such as the 4-2 defeat in Bochum six weeks ago. But afterwards, the FCB remained unbeaten in five league games in a row, scored a total of eleven goals and stayed on course for the championship with eleven points out of a possible 15.

In the Bundesliga on matchday 28, the betting odds for a point win for the Black Forest side are certainly interesting. After all, Sport-Club have not lost any of their last six Bundesliga home games (four wins, two draws). In the end, however, the greater value can be found in betting on an away win for Munich.

Hoffenheim vs. Bochum – 02 April, 15:30

TSG Hoffenheim slipped back from fourth to sixth after picking up just one point out of a possible six from their last two league games, but they remain on course for a Champions League spot partly because of their four wins earlier in the campaign. The Sinsheim side still lacks consistency, especially as their unbeaten and winless streaks have alternated several times this season. Nevertheless, things are going well for the team from Kraichgau.

The Bochum side, on the other hand, not only lost three of their last four league games, but also lost at home to SC Freiburg in the DFB Cup. With four defeats in their last five matches, the momentum of the Blue and Whites is practically gone. There is therefore a lot to be said for TSG, who have not lost any of their last twelve Bundesliga games against promoted teams, staying in the race for the top flight with a home win against VfL.

Bielefeld vs. VfB Stuttgart – 02 April, 15:30

An explosive basement duel is on the agenda this Saturday lunchtime, when Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart play two teams that were promoted together from the 2. Bundesliga in the summer of 2020 and are now neck and neck in the relegation battle in their second year. The Swabians, who recently picked up seven of a possible nine points to climb to 14th place, are clearly in better form going into the match.

The East Westphalians have lost four league games in a row and have scored just one goal in their last six games. Nevertheless, at least the record speaks in favour of Arminia, who are unbeaten in seven Bundesliga games against VfB Stuttgart (four wins, three draws) and have won the last three encounters since their joint promotion.

Accordingly, it is advisable to avoid betting on the outcome of the match in the Bundesliga on matchday 28 and instead opt for goal bets. Another factor in favour of under 2.5 goals is the fact that Bielefeld have the worst offensive record in the league, while VfB have only scored ten goals in 13 games away from home.

Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig – 02 April, 18:30

RB Leipzig have recently enjoyed a strong resurgence under Domenico Tedesco. The Saxons, who have now not lost in nine competitive matches (six wins, three draws), not only reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal, but are also back on course for the Champions League in the Bundesliga. Although the lead over sixth place is only one point, RBL will enter the seventh-last matchday of the season in fourth place thanks to their strong goal difference.

However, Leipzig now have to defend this fourth place against Borussia, who have won eleven of their 13 league games at Signal Iduna Park. Accordingly, it is difficult to predict the outcome of this match. However, because a goal festival can be expected purely from the offensive potential of both teams, the betting odds for a high-scoring match with goals on both sides and over 2.5 goals in total offer themselves in the top match of the Bundesliga on match day 28.

Augsburg vs. Wolfsburg – 03 April, 15:30

VfL Wolfsburg are still not out of the woods. The Lower Saxons are 13th in the table and five points clear of 14th place, but because everything from there on is extremely close, the gap to the first relegation place is just six points. That makes it all the more important for the Wolves to avoid an away defeat at all costs at FCA, who are one of the chasers of the Green-Whites.

Looking at the form table, that should be possible, as the Fuggerstädter have picked up just eight points in the second half of the season and lost three of their last five games. However, VfL have already lost 14 league games, which is why the visitors will have to be very cautious in Augsburg. In this context, there is a lot to be said for a low-scoring encounter. Accordingly, we recommend odds of under 2.5 goals in the Bundesliga on Matchday 28.

Gladbach vs. Mainz – 03 April, 17:30

Just a month ago, Adi Hütter was on the brink of retirement as coach at Borussia Mönchengladbach after a 3-2 defeat at VfB Stuttgart. But then the Foals managed the turnaround and celebrated two wins in a row for the first time since October 2021. With the six points, Gladbach climbed to eleventh place and has at least put any relegation worries to bed for the time being. With an eleven-point gap to sixth place, however, the train towards Europe has probably already left the station.

However, Borussia can be all the more liberated against Mainz, who are not in the best of form and who went into the international break with a 4-0 home win over Bielefeld, but have lost seven of their previous twelve games.

In view of the fact that Mainz have only won one of their last eleven encounters with Gladbach, betting on a home win for Hütter’s team is a good bet in the Bundesliga on matchday 28.
