Last chance for the Saxons!

In West Flanders, it’s a showdown between Bruges and RB Leipzig in the battle for third place in Group A. The home side have an advantage as they won the first leg at the Pleiße. The visitors are thus condemned to win and will be accordingly offensive

With one point so far, they are three points behind the Belgian champions, which leaves the Messestädter with their backs to the wall. On the other hand, with a win and a parallel defeat of PSG in the top match against Manchester City, the home side can still consider themselves in with a chance of surviving the winter in the top flight.

The match between Bruges and RB Leipzig at the Jan Breydel Stadium is sure to be exciting. The tip includes a goal celebration on both sides.

Bruges – Statistics & current form

The FCB is vulnerable at the moment: In the Champions League, the Flemings were taken apart twice by Manchester City and were defeated by a total of 2:9. On top of that, the situation in the domestic Jupiler League is not satisfactory.

Last Friday evening, they suffered a painful 2-1 defeat in a showdown with Mechelen. Once again, the defence was not very convincing in the Flemish derby. As a result of the defeat, the champions of the past two years currently only occupy third place in the table and the gap between them and first-placed St. Gilles is already seven points.

Offensive is in good form

While the defence has declined after the departure of Odilon Kossounou to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, as described, coach Philippe Clement’s eleven can at least be credited with a continuing stable attack. Bas Dost, in particular, is currently scoring goals. In the recent defeat at KV Mechelen, he provided the interim lead.

This was the Dutchman’s third league game in a row and his fourth competitive game in a row, as Dost also scored in the Belgian Cup against the second-division team from Deinze. Given his current strong form, the odds on his next goal in the clash between Brugge and RB Leipzig are also interesting.

At least three goals in the course of the match?

In addition, the combination of a stable forward line and a defence that is not solid means that the home side’s games have recently been high-scoring. Against this backdrop, bets on more than 2.5 goals by the final whistle also make sense.

A limit that has always been exceeded in the past five games of Brugge in league play or in the Champions League. Furthermore, three goals were scored in the first leg of this tie and at least three goals have been scored in all four of the visitors’ group matches and three of the home side’s matches so far.

Predicted Brugge line-up:
Mignolet – Clinton Mara – Mechele – Nsoki – Maoussa – Vanaken – Balanta – Vormer – Dost – Lang – de Ketelaere

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form

The Messestädter look back on a disappointing season in the Champions League so far. Admittedly, Group A with Manchester City and PSG as additional opponents besides Bruges is also first-class, but only one point after four rounds of matches is still an unexpectedly weak yield for Leipzig.

The defence, in particular, is apparently not designed for the top flight: 13 goals conceded – the worst figure of any team in the current edition of Europe’s most important club competition.

Nkunku is the top scorer

On the offensive, the hopes of coach Jesse Marsch’s team are once again pinned on Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman has already scored five goals in the Champions League! Only Robert Lewandowski (8) of FC Bayern and his compatriot Sebastien Haller (7) of Ajax Amsterdam top this great tally.

At the same time, Nkunku has already scored the most goals of any RB Leipzig player within one season in the Champions League. In addition to the weak season in the top flight, the Saxons are currently having problems in the Bundesliga.

The dress rehearsal for the upcoming match was lost 0:2 at Hoffenheim and after twelve match days they are only in seventh place in the table. To make matters worse, the in-form Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai was injured in the last match in Kraichgau, which is why he now has to miss out, as does the Dane Yussuf Poulsen, among others.

Predicted line-up of RB Leipzig:
Gulacsi – Orban – Klostermann – Gvardiol – Kampl – Angelino – Mukiele – Adams – Moriba – Nkunku – Silva

Bruges – RB Leipzig Direct comparison / H2H-balance

The teams have faced each other once so far. In the first leg last September, the Black and Blues scored a 2-1 away win in Leipzig. For the upcoming edition of Bruges vs Leipzig, the odds nevertheless assign the role of moderate favourites to the visitors.

Bruges – RB Leipzig Tip

In view of the starting position, only a win counts for RB Leipzig. This would at least give them a chance of surviving the winter in the Europa League. For the match between Bruges and RB Leipzig, the tip is for goals on both sides. The guests, as described, have to win and will therefore act offensively.

In addition, the shaky home defence argues for a goal by the visitors. In the past 15 matches in the top flight, the hosts have scored only one clean sheet and conceded an average of 2.2 goals.

At the same time, FCB’s offence continues to be punchy and Leipzig, for their part, travel with the weakest defence in the current edition of the CL. The statistics also support the selected prediction: In all four group matches of the two opponents, goals were scored on both sides!

Betway offers betting odds of 1.55 on the match between Bruges and RB Leipzig.
