Dutiful task for the Bees?

Just a few weeks ago, Brentford FC were dubbed the surprise team of the current season, but the Bees have since lost that status in the English top flight. After three defeats in a row, the promoted team from West London slipped down to twelfth place. Most recently, Brentford even lost the away match at relegation-threatened Burnley FC.

Before the international break, Brentford will face bottom side Norwich. The Bees’ Saturday opponents have made a false start so far and are now on course for the Championship. After ten matchdays, the Norwich Canaries have just two points to their name.

According to the oddsmakers, Brentford are favourites against Norwich. Norwich City have already suffered four defeats in five away games. Only in the away match at Burnley could the Canaries take a point. Norwich have also failed to score in any of their five away games.

It would therefore be more than daring to make a prediction on the visitors in Brentford vs Norwich. One of the few arguments in favour of Norwich City winning a point is their record with the Bees from West London. Norwich are unbeaten at their upcoming opponents since August 2009 – a good omen before the international break?

Brentford – Statistics & current form

Brentford have now squandered the momentum after their strong start to the season. After all, last week saw the Bees suffer their third consecutive defeat of the season against relegation-threatened Burnley FC. Especially the back line left a disastrous impression in the away match against the Clarets.

There were three goals conceded before the end of the second half for the team of head coach Thomas Frank. Although Brentford had some personnel problems in the run-up to the game, the result against the Clarets was by no means to be glossed over. Therefore, it is all the more important to master the task against Norwich City.

If Brentford also lose the match against the last-placed team in the Premier League, their lead over the relegation places will shrink further in a worst-case scenario. Currently, five points separate Brentford from their latest opponents Burnley, who are 18th in the Premier League.

Will Brentford get their frustrations off their chest?

In the English top flight, Brentford face the visitors from Norwich for the first time in the club’s history. Previously, the two clubs have mostly dueled in the lower leagues. The Bees have not won any of the last five competitive matches against Norwich City. At home, Brentford are even winless against Norwich for almost twelve years.

Nevertheless, given the visitors’ poor start to the season, it is natural to make a prediction on the home side in Brentford vs Norwich. The West Londoners have already defied the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool in their own stadium. Against LFC, Brentford FC even scored three goals.

It is quite possible that the Bees’ attack will also be able to get their frustrations off their chest against Norwich. Head coach Frank will have to do without six players for the home game against the Canaries due to injury. This includes regular keeper David Raya, who continues to be replaced by Alvaro Fernandez.

Projected Brentford line-up:
Fernandez; Jorgensen, Jansson, Pinnock; Canos, Janelt, Norgaard, Ghoddos, Henry; Toney, Mbeumo

Norwich – Statistics & current form

The season couldn’t have got off to a worse start for Daniel Farke & Co. Ten matchdays after the start of the season, Norwich City still carry the red lantern and are one of the hottest candidates for relegation this season. So far, the Canaries have picked up just two points this season.

Nevertheless, head coach Daniel Farke – at least according to current media reports – remains in charge. There are still realistic chances for a comeback in the course of the remaining first half of the season. The gap to a non-relegation place, meanwhile, is only eight points, so it is all the more important to score in the upcoming away game against fellow promoted Brentford.

Norwich have lost four of their five away games this season and have yet to score an away goal, so there are few arguments to back Brentford vs Norwich. Only with their recent away record at Brentford do the Canaries exude some optimism.

Next away debacle for Norwich?

Competitively, Norwich have gone unbeaten in their last six away games against Brentford FC. To continue that streak this season, Farke & Co. will have to shake off their persistent away woes. In the five away games of the current season, they have already conceded 15 goals. Norwich conceded seven of the 15 goals in the away debacle against Chelsea.

In London, Norwich City have not won in the English top flight for a season-long 25 consecutive away games. The Canaries have lost 19 of their 25 away games in London during that period. It is quite possible that the negative streak will continue against Brentford.

Daniel Farke will have to do without Zimmermann and Byram for the away game in West London due to injury. Cantwell, on the other hand, is still a big question mark, but the youngster will probably miss the away game due to a lack of training.

Expected Norwich line-up:

Krul; Aarons, Kabak, Hanley, Omobamidele; Dowell, Lees-Melou, McLean, Rashica; Pukki, Sargent

Last matches played by Norwich:

10/31 2021 – Norwich 1 – 2 Leeds

10/23 2021 – Chelsea London 7 – 0 Norwich

10/16 2021 – Norwich 0 – 0 Brighton

10/02 2021 – Burnley 0 – 0 Norwich

Brentford – Norwich Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

This is the 23rd time the two clubs have met. Norwich City lead the direct comparison so far with a record of 10-3-9. One of the Canaries’ ten wins came in the second half of last season, when both clubs were still in the Championship. The first leg previously saw a draw at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Bees from west London have not won a competitive game against Norwich since December 2017. Since then, there have been a total of three defeats and two draws in five games against the Canaries.

Brentford – Norwich Tip

Brentford FC are out to make amends after three straight defeats. The Bees buckled in recent weeks and squandered their good starting position in the Premier League table. In the meantime, the lead over the relegation places has shrunk to five points. This is partly due to the recent defeat against Burnley FC.

Before the international break, the home game against Norwich City therefore comes in handy for the Bees. Meanwhile, Saturday’s opponents from West London are in free fall and have only two points after ten matchdays in the English top flight. The Canaries from Norwich have been in particularly disastrous shape away from home.

Daniel Farke’s side currently have a record of 0-1-4 away from home and a goal difference of 0:15, so it would be all the more surprising if Norwich were to pick up a point at Brentford FC in their current form.

We expect a comfortable home win for the West Londoners and place our bet on Brentford vs Norwich at attractive odds of “HT/FT: 1/1”. We are using a total of six units for this bet.
