Will Liverpool once again have to worry about the three points in London?

The race for the English championship has often been a two-horse race in recent years. This season, however, there are three contenders – Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal – who are all still in a very good position to win the coveted title. While the Citizens may have the most complicated task ahead of them this weekend with their game against Chelsea, Arsenal at Burnley and Liverpool at Brentford FC are the clear favorites.

Looking at the standings, there are virtually no arguments that would justify a prediction for the hosts between Brentford and Liverpool. The Londoners remain 14th and just six points clear of the relegation zone, while LFC have more than twice as many points to their name and a win on Saturday lunchtime could see them stay top of the table this weekend

A little caution should be exercised by manager Jürgen Klopp’s side, however, as the home side has yet to lose in the five Premier League meetings between these two teams. Last season, for example, the Bees won 3-1 at home against the Reds. To make matters worse, the current league leaders have not had a particularly good recent record when visiting the English capital.

Brentford – statistics & current form

Planning for the coming season is already in full swing at Brentford FC. During the week, for example, the signing of Brazilian Igor Thiago from Club Brugge was announced. The Londoners are transferring around 30 million pounds to the Belgian club to secure the attacker’s services until 2029. There are many indications that the 22-year-old will replace Ivan Toney from the summer, whose departure to one of the absolute top clubs already seems to be a done deal. However, it remains to be seen whether Thiago, who has scored 16 goals in 24 league games this season, will continue to play in the top flight with the Bees in 2024/25.

Coach Thomas Frank’s team are currently 14th in the Premier League. However, with a six-point cushion to the relegation zone, they must continue to look down. Especially when you consider that the capital city club have lost seven of their last nine PL matches and have already lost more than half of their league games (12 out of 23)

Brentford have lost a lot of their home strength

A further aggravating factor is that Frank’s side have also struggled to reconcile effort and return at home recently. The Red & Whites have lost four of their last six league games in front of a home crowd. The former home strength has almost completely disappeared, which is underlined by the fact that two of the four home defeats mentioned above were even suffered after taking a 1-0 lead.

However, a potential bet that both teams will score on Saturday lunchtime is less risky. Led by the aforementioned Ivan Toney, who has scored three goals in four PL matches following his six-month ban and comeback on January 20, Brentford have scored at least one goal in nine of their last ten league games. In eight out of ten cases, a bet on either team to score would have paid off. Even in six of the last seven defeats, the Londoners have at least not come away empty-handed – in terms of scoring a goal of their own.

Predicted line-up for Brentford:

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

The coaching carousel should really pick up speed in the coming months, or in the summer at the latest. Liverpool Football Club is known to be looking for a new coach, as is FC Barcelona. It is quite possible that the parking space at Säbener Straße will soon have to be reserved for the head coach with a different name. Jürgen Klopp is playing a decisive role in the “change of scenery” game – but only on the departure side. The German coach has already announced that he intends to take a sabbatical year in any case.

For the fans, the top candidate to succeed the former Dortmund player is still Xabi Alonso, but the Spaniard, who is in the service of Bayer Leverkusen, has so far given no indication of his future plans. In any case, the focus should initially be on the present, as the Reds still have a realistic chance of winning the title in all competitions. Before the first EFL Cup final against Chelsea is on the agenda next weekend, Liverpool will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday and complete their mandatory task on the Thames.

Liverpool (too) rarely play to nil

The Scouers’ strong form, which is reflected in eight wins, two draws and just one defeat from their last eleven Premier League games, is the main argument in their favor. 16 goals scored in the last five matches at league level is also an outstanding figure. In fact, LFC have only failed to score once in the current PL season. Away from home, they have scored at least one goal in twelve attempts.

However, the defense must also be held accountable, as both teams have scored in eight of the last twelve PL matches involving the Reds. Five of the last eight PL victories have included goals conceded, which is why we are focusing on the odds for an away win with both teams scoring in the upcoming clash between Brentford and Liverpool. Alternatively, you can bet on Klopp’s team to score in both halves. The top odds for this approach are just as high as for a bet that there will be at least two goals in the first 45 minutes in Liverpool’s fourth consecutive league game

Jota has scored five goals in his last six PL games. In total, the agile striker already has nine goals to his name. With Mohamed Salah about to return to the squad after injury, we think it’s unlikely that the leaders will slip up.

Predicted Liverpool line-up:

Brentford – Liverpool head-to-head comparison / H2H record

20 competitive matches have been played between these clubs so far. With twelve wins, four draws and four defeats, Liverpool have a very clear lead. In a total of seven PL duels at Brentford Community Stadium, both teams have always scored. In general, the home side seem to have the edge in this fixture, having never lost in their last five PL encounters (4-1-0). In the current season, the Reds have won 3-0 at home. The second leg in London promises a few more complications

Brentford – Liverpool betting tip

London has not been a particularly good place for Liverpool Football Club so far this season. Klopp’s side conceded both defeats in the Premier League in the south-east of the country – at Tottenham and at Arsenal. This weekend, the LFC squad will once again travel to the Thames. At Brentford’s Community Stadium, however, the current leaders of the English top flight are the clear favorites.

This assessment by the bookmakers is absolutely understandable in our eyes, especially as the home side have lost seven of their last nine PL games and have also lost four of their last six matches at home. In terms of the table, this is also a clash between 14th and first. Anything other than an away win for the Reds would therefore be a surprise

However, given that LFC have conceded a number of goals recently and have rarely been able to keep a clean sheet, we see good value in betting on an away win between Brentford and Liverpool, including goals on both sides. At Betano, these two bets can be combined at total odds of 2.80.
