Who will stay at the top of the table?

Both Betis Sevilla and Villarreal got off to a good start, winning three of their first four league games. The Béticos then lost the top match at Real Madrid, while Villarreal climbed to third place with three wins and a draw. The players from the east coast of Spain have not conceded a goal in any of their matches.

The Yellow Submarine will now travel to the Andalusian capital, where they have not lost any of their last three matches. This is one of the reasons why the bookmakers’ odds are swinging in favour of the visitors in the run-up to the top match between Betis Sevilla and Villarreal.

However, the Verdes are by no means to be underestimated in view of their strong pre-season, in which Real Betis fought for a Champions League starting place for a long time and also won the Copa del Rey. It is therefore all the more difficult to make a bet on the outcome of the Betis Sevilla vs Villarreal match at such an early stage of the season.

In view of the two very stable defences, betting on a maximum of one team scoring at the Estadio Benito Villamarín offers considerably more value.

Betis Sevilla – Statistics & current form

As recently as the summer of 2020, Real Betis Balompié were on the brink of relegation, which was just barely averted. Then those responsible landed the Chilean veteran Manuel Pellegrini as coach. Since then, the Verdes have been on a high.

The Béticos have successfully qualified for the Europa League twice in a row, with a long run to a Champions League starting spot in the 2021/22 season and finally winning another major title in the Copa del Rey as well.

Attacking the Champions League again?

Now, in the third attempt under Manuel Pellegrini, the next improvement is to be made after sixth and fifth place in the final tables. Those responsible would like to see the current snapshot – after four matchdays Betis Sevilla are in fourth place – also at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, the first small setback came last Saturday in a 2-1 away defeat at Real Madrid, but the Verdes were able to shake it off during the week in the Europa League at HJK Helsinki, where they started the season with a 2-0 away win.

First three wins in a row with 6:1 goals

Now the Andalusians are looking to build on their first three games in La Liga, all of which were won by 6:1 goals. However, with the best defence in the country coming to the Estadio Benito Villamarín, the task is quite complicated.

That is also the opinion of the betting companies, who see the Verdes in the underdog role despite their home advantage.

Villarreal – Statistics & current form

Villarreal Club de Fútbol won the UEFA Europa League in the summer of 2021, securing their ticket to the top flight, where the Yellow Submarine (Spanish: “El Submarino Amarillo”) excelled last season. After victories over Juventus and Bayern, the men from the Spanish east coast reached the semi-finals.

However, because “only” seventh place was achieved in parallel to the international highs in La Liga, Villarreal will have to make do with the Conference League this season. They opened their campaign with a spectacular 4-3 win over Lech Poznan on Thursday evening.

Still without conceding a goal after four league games

Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s side have made a fine start to their La Liga campaign. After four matchdays, the East Spaniards are still unbeaten and have picked up ten points out of a possible twelve. This includes a 2-0 away win at Champions League participants Atlético Madrid.

Even more impressive than this result is the fact that the yellow submarine has not conceded a single goal in four La Liga matches. This defensive stability also favours our bet on Betis Sevilla against Villarreal scoring a maximum of one team.

None lost in last three away games at Betis Sevilla

With a little bit of shooting help, the kickers from the province of Castellón could theoretically even jump to the top of the table with an away win at the Estadio Benito Villamarín. The Emery team should therefore not lack motivation.

Recently, the Andalusian capital has been a good place for the yellow submarine. Villarreal have remained unbeaten in three consecutive visits to the Verdes (two wins, one draw) and just celebrated a 2-0 away victory in the south of Spain in February this year.

Betis Sevilla – Villarreal Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 16 – 10 – 16

Betis Sevilla and Villarreal have played each other 42 times so far, with 16 wins and ten draws. Last season, the yellow submarine celebrated a 2-0 victory both at home and in Andalusia.

Betis Sevilla – Villarreal Tip

When it comes to Betis Sevilla against Villarreal, the prediction now again goes slightly in the direction of the team from Spain’s east coast, which has not only remained unbeaten in four games in league action, but also without conceding a goal. However, the Béticos have only lost to reigning champions Real Madrid and have won all three of their other games. Accordingly, it could be a close game in this top-of-the-table match.

We see the greatest value in betting on a low-scoring match, especially because of the pronounced defensive qualities of both teams. The recent record also speaks in favour of a maximum of one team scoring. Already last season, there were always goals on only one side when both teams faced each other.
