Will VfB spoil Bayern’s championship celebrations?

It was a few years ago that the match between FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart was the south-west hit in the Bundesliga because both teams were at least somewhat on a par. Today, that is no longer the case and if we look at the conditions before this match, it becomes clear how big the gap between these two clubs has become.

Munich have secured the championship for the tenth time in a row and will be presented with the championship trophy after the match against VfB. Julian Nagelsmann’s team has even taken the liberty of going on a short trip to Ibiza, which has already been widely discussed. For Bayern, it’s all about nothing in the end, except starting the championship celebrations with a good feeling and not with a defeat.

VfB Stuttgart, on the other hand, are literally up to their necks in water. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team are in the relegation zone. Whether they can still manage to stay in the relegation zone will become clear on Saturday. Should Hertha win at home against Mainz, VfB will at least have to consolidate their relegation position. That doesn’t sound like you have to think about a prediction on an away win in the duel between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.

This season, Bayern are and have been criticised a lot, but currently they are only four points short of a better season than last year from their last two games. We expect the Munich team to put everything into the game and show character in front of a sell-out crowd and a great atmosphere.

Bayern – statistics & current form

FC Bayern are once again the Bundesliga’s ballers this season. Robert Lewandowski and Co. have scored a total of 93 goals this season. Their own best and thus the Bundesliga record is 101 goals. If Munich get their act together on Sunday, we expect the Nagelsmann eleven to score a few goals.

Less Bayern again?

Bayern’s demands are extremely high. Losing points is hardly acceptable and what would be a great series with other teams is average at best with the FCB. Three wins, one draw and one defeat from the last five games are not at all to Bayern’s taste. Perhaps, in this form, we can still think about at least playing the odds on goals for both teams between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.

What Bayern delivered last weekend, it has to be said in all clarity, was absolutely unworthy of a champion. In the guest game in Mainz, the champions looked listless and anaemic. In the end, they conceded a deserved 1:3 defeat, so that Stuttgart’s competitors, especially Hertha, suspect distortion of competition should the Munich team also perform like that against the Swabians.

In terms of personnel, Bayern have all players on board apart from Bouna Sarr, even if Corentin Tolisso is still stricken. Niklas Süle will probably not get a proper farewell at the Allianz Arena before his move to Dortmund and will sit on the bench for now. Leon Goretzka did little training during the week. Should it not be enough, Jamal Musiala will probably operate in defensive midfield.

Predicted Bayern line-up:
Neuer – Pavard, Upamecano, Hernandez, Davies – Kimmich, Musiala – Gnabry, Müller, Coman – Lewandowski – Coach. Nagelsmann

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

At least the participation in the relegation is in VfB Stuttgart’s own hands and that means that they can also still manage to stay in the class by their own efforts in an exciting relegation battle. It is remarkable that the VfB bosses have always stuck with Pellegrino Matarazzo in difficult situations, while the competition has worn out several coaches at once.

Winless streak at the worst time

From a sporting point of view, there would certainly have been reasons to set new impulses with a change of coach. The Bundesliga is in crunch time and right now there has been no victory in six games. That’s why we don’t dare to make a prediction on a win for the visitors before the match between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart.

Last weekend, they just kept their slim chance of direct relegation alive. The Swabians were behind at home against Wolfsburg and Hertha were leading at Bielefeld. Both sides equalised in the closing stages, with Chris Führich scoring for Stuttgart, so hopes remain alive, at least as long as Hertha don’t win on Saturday.

Pellegrino Matarazzo will have to do without some players on Saturday. Clinton Mola, Nikolas Nartey, Mohamed Sankoh, Silas and Pascal Stenzel are missing due to injury. The coach will have to decide whether to play with a three-man or four-man backline. It is conceivable that Chris Führich will move into the starting eleven for Omar Marmoush or Tiago Tomas after his goal against Wolfsburg.

Predicted line-up of VfB Stuttgart:
Müller, Mavropanos, Anton, Ito – Endo, Karazor, Sosa – Tiago Tomas, Förster, Führich – Kalajdzic – Coach: Matarazzo

Bayern – VfB Stuttgart Direct Comparison / H2H-Balance

The paths of FC Bayern and VfB Stuttgart are almost inseparable. To date, the two clubs have faced each other in an incredible 155 competitive matches. Of course, the direct comparison is a clear affair for the Munich side with 91:37 victories. 27 duels ended in a draw. The record champions have not won more often against any other club in the top flight.

In the last 19 direct duels in the Bundesliga alone, there have been 18 victories for the Munich team. The fact that these two teams have met on equal terms has long been history. This also became clear in the first leg. In Stuttgart, FC Bayern won outright 5:0 in mid-December. Serge Gnabry was the player of the match with three goals. Lewandowski scored the other two goals.

Bayern – VfB Stuttgart Tip

VfB Stuttgart will tear themselves apart in Munich on Sunday. But if we look at the statistics, FC Bayern alone will decide how this game will end. Munich have won 18 of the last 19 duels against the Swabians. What’s more, VfB do not travel in good form and have been waiting for a win for six games.

Bayern disappointed mightily last week in Mainz after the Ibiza trip. Clear words have been spoken both internally and publicly. To prevent the tablecloth from being torn even further, we expect a committed Bayern on Sunday, who are desperate to take the three points before handing over the trophy. Therefore, everything points to a successful bet on a home win in the match between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.

The odds on a Bayern win are not exactly lush. Therefore, we do not see any value in it and rather refrain from such a bet. We think that the Swabians will also play forward and maybe they will even score a goal. The bottom line is that we have decided to play the betting odds on more than 3.5 goals between Bayern and VfB Stuttgart.
