Will Bayern stumble over the Bullen?

There is always a special charm when the champions from Germany and Austria face each other in the European Cup. The small neighbour from the south is trying to rebel again this season and is doing everything it can to knock FC Bayern out of the competition. At the Allianz Arena, however, the stakes are very high for RB Salzburg.

The Austrians will, however, try to become the first team since Austria Wien in the 1984/85 season to reach a quarter-final in the European Champion Clubs’ Cup or the Champions League. However, Bayern Munich are one of the favourites to win the top flight and it is therefore clear that the odds on a home win in this duel must be extremely low.

However, after the 1-1 draw in the first leg, the Austrians have certainly left themselves open to the possibility of progressing to the next round. Bayern’s record after an away draw in the first leg is good, but not outstanding. Five of the last seven times, the Munich side have progressed to the next round after a draw away from home, but they have also failed twice. Nevertheless, this statistic says that between Bayern and Red Bull Salzburg, a prediction of the Munich side progressing seems to have no alternative.

For the German record champions, this round of 16 is “business as usual”. For Salzburg, on the other hand, it is perhaps the biggest game in the club’s history. A place in the quarter-finals would be terrific in itself. If they were to achieve this with a win in Munich, it would be sensational. However, we think you should be better off betting on a home win between Bayern and Red Bull Salzburg.

Bayern – Statistics & current form

FC Bayern is currently not swimming in money as they were used to for years. Therefore, it would be important for the Munich team to secure a cash injection from UEFA for a place in the quarter-finals. The performance in the top flight is directly linked to how the German record champions can act in the transfer market and whether a contract extension for Robert Lewandowski is feasible.

Vulnerable record champion

So Bayern know what is at stake on Tuesday. After the early exit in the DFB Pokal, failure in the top flight would be a disaster. After all, there is not much standing in the way of defending the Bundesliga title. The Munich team currently has a nine-point lead over Dortmund, although it has already played one game more. In general, however, Bayern seem to be more vulnerable this season than they have been for a long time.

The Bavarians have only lost one of their last seven games, but they could well have suffered a defeat against Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. Julian Nagelsmann’s team took the lead after a goal by Niklas Süle, but in the end it was only enough for a 1-1 draw, with the Werkself failing to convert several top-class chances.

Perhaps stability will now return with Manuel Neuer. The captain will make his comeback on Tuesday. The question is whether the FCB will play with a three-man or four-man defence. That will determine the line-up in the offensive line-up. In any case, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka and Corentin Tolisso will not be playing.

Predicted Bayern line-up:
Neuer – Pavard, Süle, Upamecano, Hernandez – Kimmich, Musiala – Sane, Müller, Coman – Lewandowski – Coach: Nagelsmann

Red Bull Salzburg – Statistics & current form

Red Bull Salzburg are once again much further ahead than FC Bayern in terms of the national championship. Just how clear the Bulls’ role is in Austria is made clear by their lead over second-placed Sturm Graz. The Salzburgers have 18 points more on their account. There are not even any remaining doubts about the next championship for Matthias Jaissle and his players.

Away things could be better

The aim now is to put an exclamation mark on the Champions League. However, the Bullen have never won in the Champions League on German soil. Admittedly, there have already been successes in the Europa League in Dortmund and Leipzig. The Austrians are not to be taken lightly and it is therefore a little surprising that extremely high odds are being offered on a successful match between Bayern and RB Salzburg.

After all, the Austrians are unbeaten for nine games and are still dancing on three high tides. The only thing they haven’t managed yet this year is an away win in the top flight. Last weekend, Junior Adamu, Maximilian Wöber, Luka Sucic and Karim Adeyemi scored in the Bundesliga to secure a 4-0 win at home to Altach.

The Austrians have had a lot of worries lately because of numerous positive test results. 17 Salzburg players alone were affected. However, all players without exception have reported fit again for Tuesday’s match. There are no injuries at the moment and so Matthias Jaissle can go into this important match in Munich with his preferred team.

Predicted line-up of Red Bull Salzburg:
Köhn – Kristensen, Piatkowski, Wöber, Ulmer – Capaldo, Camara, Seiwald – Aaronson, Adamu, Adeyemi – Coach: Jaissle

Last matches played by Red Bull Salzburg:

03/05 2022 – Salzburg 4 – 0 Altach

03/02 2022 – LASK 0 – 0 Salzburg

02/20 2022 – Salzburg 2 – 0 Wolfsberger AC

Champions League Final
02/16 2022 – Salzburg 1 – 1 Bayern Munich

02/11 2022 – Rapid Vienna 1 – 2 Salzburg

Bayern – Red Bull Salzburg Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

For the second year in a row, Bayern Munich and RB Salzburg meet in the top flight. However, while last year they already crossed paths in the group stage, they now meet in the playoffs. A total of three games are therefore on the books. The Bullen are still waiting for a win against the FCB. The Bavarians have won two and drawn once.

The first leg in Salzburg ended in a 1-1 draw. The Austrians almost looked like the winners. Junior Adamu scored the 1:0 lead after 20 minutes. Kingsley Coman equalised in the 90th minute. Therefore, it could be a close game for the German champions in their home match on Tuesday.

Bayern – Red Bull Salzburg Tip

Among the bookmakers tested, Bayern are the clear favourites on Tuesday. However, we do not see the matter so clearly. Therefore, there can hardly be any value hidden in the quotes on a home win. We think that the Munich team is beatable at the moment, even though there has never been a home defeat against teams from Austria.

However, Salzburg are in a slightly better mood than Munich and had the German record champions on the brink of defeat in the first leg. Now, however, the Austrians will need a win and that has not yet been achieved in the Champions League this season, neither on German soil in the top flight. Therefore, there is actually more to be said between Bayern and Red Bull Salzburg for a bet on the Munich team advancing.

But we also expect stormy bulls at the Allianz Arena. Therefore, we also think that you should look at the quotes for over-goals. The guests should probably also contribute a goal and that is why we have decided to play the betting odds on goals for both teams between Bayern and Red Bull Salzburg.
